Weapons Man
We Regret the Lack of a Tech Post this Morning
We just don’t have one ready. Sorry ’bout that.
This is What Happens When You Call the Cops!
This is what happens when you call the cops — you get your rights violated and you all get shot. Rap video, so it’s not to everyone’s taste. (It’s good as rap goes, though: catchy).
...2nd Amendment Writer Howard Nemerov Hangs Up his Pen
You had to read to the end of Howard Nemerov’s recent column on the primary victory of Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke to learn that Howard, whose writing has been entertaining and informing the gun culture from a position at Pajamas Media since 2010, is calling it quits:
...Army: Screw Congress, we’re all in on new camo. Again.
Hey, just because some dumb Congressmen passed a law saying no more bottomless flow of money so that every new service chief can play GI Joes with his troops, doesn’t mean the Army has to follow the law. They’re adopting a new camouflage called the Operational Camouflage Pattern or OCP. It looks a lot like the old OEF Camouflage Pattern or … OCP… but it’s different for reasons we will explain.
...Now We See It! Taurus 85VTA
One gimmick of the new Taurus 85VTA View, as the last word in its model name suggests, is transparency: the tiny, ultralight personal defense revolver has a clear plastic sideplate letting you see what goes on inside. The other gimmick is size and weight: it has barely any of either, thanks to judicious selection of materials and relentless trimming of its barrel and grip.
...Sunday Simplicity
Some Sundays there’s a lot going on around here.
...Ave atque vale: Robert Richards, Cpl. USMC, Ret.
You may not remember Richards (l.), but surely you remember the Micturating Marines, a scout-sniper element who were pursued like Ahab pursued the white whale, with Marine Commandant James Amos cheerfully playing the Ahab role, demanding that the convening authority “crush” the offending Marines, legalities be damned.
...New VA Honcho: “Sure, accountability. Mañana.“
Reporters asked about if, and when, the hundreds of VA managers who falsified records to plump up their bonuses, abandoning neglected vets to illness and death, will be held responsible. To this, the VA’s new Secretary says: wait, not so fast, we can’t just hold people accountable. It’s a government job, after all. Kind of like welfare: an entitlement.
...“We Didn’t Even Get the 30 Pieces of Silver!”
From GOAL to “own goal.” The once-viable Massachusetts gun-owners’ group, Gun Owners’ Action League (GOAL), found out how they got paid back for supporting gun-control legislation. The organization put its credibility on the line to back a law so extreme that it eliminates the right to own long guns without prior permission from police. How did they get paid back, then? Hah. They didn’t.
...The “Proximity Fuzed” RPG that wasn’t
In Russia, the improved RPG-7 replaced the RPG-2 in 1961, but it took years for the improved antitank weapons to filter to the Soviet Union’s client states and it took even longer to get to Soviet-supported terrorists and insurgents, even the ones that the USSR recognized militarily, like North Vietnam. When the new AT weapon emerged, it was immediately a threat to American and Republic of Vietnam aircraft, especially low- and slow-flying helicopters.
...Tour d’Horizon (French for, Clearing the tabs)
Tour d’Horizon is an occasional feature where we comment briefly on links that were interesting, but not interesting enough to trigger our damnable prolixity to the extent of an independent post.
...Who’s Getting Riffed?
A little birdie visited the other day, and among its droppings we discovered a very interesting .pptx document: Its title was HUMAN RESOURCES COMMAND: Briefing to to General Odierno, CSA, 10 July 2014.
...10 Dumb Things You Can Do with a Gun Blog
10. Write long posts in “Press This” only to have a Safari crash erase your work. (Press This Reloaded is a better option). The good news, is that this frustrates us, not you. You never see what you lost.
...Plastic E and F Silhouettes — when to replace them?
This post is a response to a perhaps deservedly snarky comment that was posted to to a recent post on how the Army, mirabile dictu, is actually training smarter for a change.
