The Truth About Guns

Pro Tip: Teach Your Friends to Shoot Straight
The latest example of human gene pool purification comes to us from the Palmetto State. That’s where a Honea Path man decided to test out an old bullet proof vest he had kicking around by talking a friend into taking a pot shot at him. According to thestate.com, “In the warrant issued for (Taylor Ann) Kelly’s arrest, deputies state that they believe Wardell put on the vest and asked Kelly to shoot him. The bullet passed through the edge of the vest, and (Blake Randall) Wardell was hit in the chest. A handgun was used in the shooting, according to the warrant.” Apparently Kelly shot a tad too high, missing the Kevlar. Kelly’s now facing an involuntary manslaughter charge. Wardell is facing up. And we’ll never know if that old vest was any good.
Follow-On Rumor of the Day: DPMS Also on Remington Chopping Block
Today is apparently the Day of the Long Knives around the Remington empire. Hot on the heels of Big Green’s apparent chloroforming of Advanced Armament Corp. comes word from deep within DPMS that their employees have been axed, too. Rifle production at their St. Cloud, Minnesota facility ends in September and parts production will shut down next April. All DPMS manufacturing is reportedly moving to Alabama (we assume that means Remington’s Huntsville operation). Which makes you wonder 1) what other companies are getting the bad news today (Barnes? TAPCO? Para?) and 2) when will Ilion hear that giant sucking sound of jobs moving to low tax, non-union, gun-friendly southern states?
30 Cal Gal Anette Wachter on Accurate Fire
The NRA’s out with their latest Tips and Tactics series vid and this time they’ve enlisted a new shooter. The 30 Cal Gal herself, Anette Wachter covers breath control, loading your trigger, all after achieving a comfortable wobble zone. Which we sincerely wish we knew how to do, if for no other reason than practicing it sounds like so much fun.
Rumor of the Day: Remington Has Fired All AAC Personnel
Technically this is a rumor since we don’t have confirmation yet. But through a very good source, TTAG has learned that Remington notified all of Advanced Armament Corp’s employees today that their jobs have been terminated. Word is that all AAC production will be moved to Kentucky (Big Green has operations in both Hickory and Elizabethtown) after the end of the year. It doesn’t appear that anyone has been offered a position once the move is made, though an offer of a three week severance payment was proffered to employees who stick it out through December 31. We’re trying to reach someone at AAC for confirmation, but the plan seems to be to save cash by deep-sixing everyone left at AAC who has any knowledge of and expertise in their products. How’d that work out for Marlin?
BREAKING: DC District Court Upholds DC’s Assault Weapon Ban, Registration Requirements
Ever since the Supreme Court ruled that the District of Columbia’s handgun ban was unconstitutional, the city has done everything in its power to make actually owning a gun as difficult and expensive as possible. If you need proof, all you have to do is read some of Emily Miller’s stories about what she had to do to legally purchase and possess a gun our nation’s capitol. And that legal obstacle course prompted Dick Heller to file a second suit (commonly known as Heller 2) against D.C. arguing that those barriers to ownership constitute an unconstitutional infringement of the right to keep and bear arms. Today, however, the DC District Court has ruled in favor of the District. You can read the court’s opinion here. Next stop, SCOTUS. Probably.
Quote of the Day: How to Treat a Dictator Edition
“If I lived in Venezuela, I’d find out where the guardsmen lived, and shoot them when they walked out the door in the morning. That is, of course, the proper response to dictators and their minions of every stripe, even Hollywood-backed socialists.” – Glenn Reynolds at instapundit.com
