Quote of the Day: Wait, What? Edition

Mon, 04/28/2014 - 08:00

“We have armed security because other people on your side of the debate threaten our lives. I wish it weren’t the case, but it is.” – tweet from Erika Soto Lamb, comms director for Everytown for Gun Safety (includes Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action) [h/t DrVino]

Barrett Re-Vamps their REC7 Rifle Line

Sun, 04/27/2014 - 16:00

The Barrett REC7 has been around for a while, yet I only know one person who actually bought one. It might be an after-effect of their reputation for expensive firearms like their 50BMG line — good guns, but you can’t afford them. Barrett’s updating the rifle line with a new keymod forend (bringing them into line with other high end manufacturers), an all chrome one-piece push-rod piston system, more colors, and a new Geiselle trigger. We’ve been promised one to review, and we’ll let you know how it runs.

Daniel Defense Invests in their Own Stocks

Sun, 04/27/2014 - 14:00

Daniel Defense has been using Magpul’s furniture on their firearms for years, but starting at SHOT Show this year they’ve begun using their own design for the stock and handguards. The stock design is pretty nifty, with added rubber pads for comfort and grip. The pistol grip… meh. It has the same rubber grippy panels, but it has a much sharper grip angle than the standard A2 grip. Some people will like it, some won’t, but DD will continue to sell like hotcakes.

ShootingTheBull410 Goes 9mm Old School: Federal Hi-Shoks

Sun, 04/27/2014 - 13:00

Ammo auteur ShootingTheBull410 goes retro in this episode of his short-barrel 9mm Ammo Quest. One of his viewers donated some classic Federal Hi-Shoks to the cause of scientific inquiry. This ammo design definitely pre-dates the pocket-9mm craze, so will the old schools stuff do well from the newest-style short-barreled pistols? Only one way to find out: click “play” and see.

Quote of the Day: Oklahoma Volunteer Militia Ready to Use Lethal Force

Sun, 04/27/2014 - 08:00

“We are prepared…We certainly hope it doesn’t go that route but, with the track record of the federal government, it doesn’t look very promising that that’s going to happen.” - Scott Shaw, co-founder of the Oklahoma Volunteer Militia, quoted in MILITIA TO BLM: ‘WE ARE PREPARED TO USE DEADLY FORCE’ [via breitbart.com]

New from Heizer Defense: PAR1 .223 Pistol

Sat, 04/26/2014 - 18:00

We couldn’t let NRA go by without stopping by the Heizer booth to take a look at their just-announced PAR1 .223 pocket pistol. Heizer’s Eric Polkis tells us that a 55gr bullet will manage almost 1500 fps out of that snubbie-length barrel. No word yet as to the size of the resulting fireball closely following right behind that round. We asked for a gun to review and it sounds like one is forthcoming. When it eventually arrives, we’ll be sure to include some low-light photos in the review . . .

New from Rock River Arms: Polymer 1911 Handgun

Sat, 04/26/2014 - 17:00

Rock River Arms is here at the NRAAM to introduce their new polymer framed 1911 handgun. The frame of the gun is injection molded polymer, but there’s a small metal insert molded into the gun that holds all of the pins together and distributes the force of the recoil over a larger area. The gun weighs much less than a standard 1911, but there is a downside . . .

The grip is wider. It’s a single stack 1911 but it almost feels like a double stack gun. They’re looking into eliminating or slimming down the grip panels, but until then it’s a gun that would be more comfortable in larger hands.

To be fair, we’ve seen this before. But the big news here is that the gun is actually going to start shipping within a few months.

BREAKING: Video of Shannon Watts’ Hired Security Guards Allegedly Shoving Dana Loesch

Sat, 04/26/2014 - 16:31

It looks like Shannon Watts has hired some serious personal security to protect her as she agitates and advocates for new laws to keep the unwashed masses from enjoying that same level of protection. Anyway, Dana Loesch was at the Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Control rally in Indianapolis today (total attendance: less than 50), attempting to question Shannon Watts about an earlier allegation Watts had made. Dana seems to have gotten a little bit up in Shannon’s grill, and her hired goons shoved her out of the way. More bullying from the gun control advocates? You decide.

Gun Tweet of the Day: Piers Morgan Tweaks the NRA’s Nipple. Again. Still.

Sat, 04/26/2014 - 16:00

Piers Morgan is out of work. But he’s not out of animus. The unemployed chat show host has taken to the Twitterverse to tweak the National Rifle Association while the tweaking’s good. Mr. Morgan later apologized for his “intemperate language” – in his own special way (i.e. “Wayne LaPierre makes me puke”). Make the jump to read that piece of purple prose. Or not. If a Piers Morgan falls in the forest and no one blogs it, did it make any difference to anyone?  . . .
