How fishermen tie and tighten knots is vital to the effectiveness of that connection. And unless it’s done correctly, the knot will slip, fail, the line parts and a good fish is gone.

I’m not one of those people who believes that a financial crisis can ever mean TEOTWAWKI — and in fact I don’t think TEOTWAWKI is an actual thing that can happen short of an asteroid strike. A complete failure of the global financial system would mean massive social unrest, some amount of starvation, and a decade or two of misery, yes, but not “we’re back to living in caves.” That said, massive social unrest and starvation are still a really big deal, and I think it’s important to be prepared for a minimum of two weeks without basic services.

Are any of us ready for a CQC event? Perhaps many of us fancy ourselves as pistoleers like the boys of Young Guns. Most of us would likely die thinking so if the you-know-what went down. 1) Never “over-call.” When ducks are committed to your spread, hush, calling can then only hurt your chances. In many public areas too many hunters call too much. In such a case, not calling at all may best lure ducks within range.

Two buddies– Mike Mooney and Gary McKendrie – were out the other day at their deer hunting property checking feeders, filling them, and looking at remote camera images. Fun stuff this work – learning where deer are living, and feeding, and planning where to place stands.

Wild fruits are among the most important foods for deer during bow season, because it’s available to game long before acorns are ripe or corn fields are cut. Further, by the time most firearms seasons roll around, fruit has long since fallen and been consumed. Thus areas that draw deer and hold them for their fruity foods are pretty much the sole domain of bowhunters.

Eleven year old Dallas Rustin from Laurel, Mississippi stepped out the front door of his rural home to spot two coyotes lounging out in the pasture not far from the house. He was alarmed by that. He knew the family had been having issues with coyotes coming close to the house and even taking down newborn calves. They had just lost two more new ones.

At the $200 price level we are at the line between gear for folks that like nice stuff and stuff for aficionados only. We are also at a price point in the market where there are a bevy of classic designs–Benchmade Mini Griptilians and Zebralight SC52s. This is all very good stuff and probably the last rational purchase price point. Beyond this the stuff is usually gussied up with frills or very small batch. But here, we have some awesome, awesome stuff.

A good shotgun is an absolute must have for any survival weaponry cache. Even if you consider building the most minimalist SHTF gun kit, then a shotgun has to be on the list. A plain Jane version can give you basically the same protective coverage, but in today’s market of accessories galore, a good smoothbore can be turned into something really great.

There are good alternatives to the battery powered electronic scopes. If you have never investigated the unique product line of Trijicon scopes, then now is the time to explore a new kind of optical technology.
