One to Watch: Muyshondt Spinner

Tue, 11/25/2014 - 20:39

I am not going to hide my bias–I am a huge fan of Enrique Muyshondt’s flashlights. I loved the Aeon and the Aeon Mk. II. Both are among the best EDC lights available, regardless of price. I recently had the chance to review another of his lights, a AAA Mako Mk.II and it was also a great light.

Making An AR-15 in 7.62×39 Work Reliably

Tue, 11/25/2014 - 20:36

Running the 7.62×39 in the AR-15 platform has gotten somewhat of a bad rap. Read through forums and you would think people are a little bi-polar, with one post saying they could never get it to work and the next post noting they bought one off the shelf or built one and never had an issue. Kinda like people who love or hate the 300 Blackout.

CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 Pistol Already Making a Splash

Tue, 11/25/2014 - 10:46

The old CZ Skorpion 61 was a submachinegun chambered for the dinky 32 ACP (7.65mm Browning). As time went by, a 9mm version came into being. When a modern version was developed, about the only thing it shared with the original was the name – and the spelling of that had been anglicized to Scorpion with a “c.”

CCW Breakaways carry solution

Mon, 11/24/2014 - 18:37

Traditionally, throwing a gun in your pocket has been viewed with disfavor. The practice is seldom safe and usually requires a lot of time to get the pistol out because the pocket openings are too narrow for the grip combined with the firing grip around it. The defender then has to flatten the hand to get it and the gun out of the pocket, then re-grip the gun for firing. There’s got to be a better way!

One to Watch: Spyderco Rubicon

Mon, 11/24/2014 - 18:34

Over the years Spyderco has done very well in the middle of the market.  The Delica and Endura are annual best sellers, and rightfully so.  In the past two years, however, the company has made a distinct move towards the upper end of the price range for production knives.  This is, no doubt, in response to a market increasingly willing to spend lots of money on a knife.  For years the Sebenza was the final outpost on the road to price insanity, and now it looks like a bargain compared to something like the Lionsteel TiDust with its $1600 price tag (depending on the conversion rate).  It would be silly for them not to move into this higher-end price range.  After all, most of the increase in price comes from an increase in the profit margin.

Five EDC Tips for Black Friday

Mon, 11/24/2014 - 18:28

Black Friday has become something of a holiday in and of itself, a holiday from the normal rational thinking that comes with spending money. Its a day where people trample each other for an $11 George Foreman Grill or a $187 garbage flat screen TV. And like the Christmas season, it’s getting stretched out. I am sure all of you have been getting emails about “special black Friday deals” more than a week in advance. It’s Black Friday but on a Tuesday!

Ohio School Board Considers Arming Teachers

Mon, 11/24/2014 - 11:15

Logan County, Ohio – Sometimes, my hope for the human race is bolstered when I see proof that some people in control have a little common sense. And that’s what I’m seeing here, where a county school board is reasonably discussing placing guns in schools in order to combat possible attacks using guns.

Why The Next Hot EDC Knife Could Be Chinese

Wed, 11/19/2014 - 18:05

Few things are more American than competition in the marketplace, and right now, the traditional cutlery leaders–the USA, Italy, Germany, and Japan–face new competition from Chinese companies. Many of these companies work as original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for big names like Gerber and KAI. Some also have their own brands, like San Ren Mu. But until very recently Chinese knives weren’t competitive with the top end of the production market.

Doe Harvests A Big Part of Deer Management

Wed, 11/19/2014 - 17:57

The old guard of deer hunters never wanted to kill antlerless deer. The thinking was that hunters would be diminishing the breeding stock of doe deer that would provide future generations of deer on a property. Such thinking has long been proven contrary to sound white-tailed deer management practices in the modern game management age.

Installing Tech-Sight TSR200 on a Ruger 10/22

Wed, 11/19/2014 - 17:51

The Ruger 10/22 is an amazing rifle, but if there’s one part on the Ruger 10/22 that needs improving, it’s the sights.  If you want to be kind, we can say the factory sights are of a poor design.  If we want to be honest, the factory sights are terrible.
