U.S. Senate Candidate Joni Ernst References True Meaning of Second Amendment
Iowa – Although the quote is two years old, Republican Joni Ernst’s reference to the true meaning of the second amendment has recently made news – probably because of a tight senate race this year. Apparently, Ernst’s handlers are reaching out to freedom lovers by publicizing her statement.

...Homeowner Returns Burglar’s Fire, Ends His Criminal Career
Sarasota, FL – When Chris Bane heard breaking glass at 5:40 AM, he got his recently-acquired gun and went to face the threat. His home had been broken into three times recently, and he needed to protect his home, himself – and above all, his 11-year-old son.
Bane reportedly confronted a young man who had broken into his home. The intruder, Calvin Yoder, then fired at Bane. Bane returned fire, hitting and killing the burglar.
While it appears that this was a perfectly reasonable thing to do, Mr. Bane was distraught about the crime, and posted a lament on Facebook saying as much. Apparently he knew Yoder, who had made a career of crime and by age 22 had been arrested numerous times for battery and burglary, and had reportedly served time in prison.
Neighbors stated hopes that a recent crime wave in their normally-tranquil neighborhood will end now that one of the apparent perpetrators had faced the ultimate penalty for his crimes.
I hope so, too.
House-Breaking Bear Shot by Florida Gun Owner
Lady Lake, FL – I’m a lifelong Florida resident, and we have a bear problem here. Some folks find that hard to believe, thinking that Florida is nothing but palm trees, roller coasters, and water slides. But we have a lot of wildlife – far too much of some species, as in the case of black bears. Anti-hunting pressure put a stop to bear hunting in Florida decades ago, and the population has since exploded in many areas.
...Triple Aught Design Intercept PD Pants
I like cargo pants. I am sure you like cargo pants. They are, frankly, so darn useful it is hard justifying wearing anything else except, obviously, cargo shorts, weather permitting. But if you are like me, or more to the point if your significant other is like mine, they wish you’d wear something else. Preferably something that doesn’t make you look like GI Joe at the Mall or a slightly-too-old-to-be-Special-Forces guy in the Target parking lot. You might get the hint when, surprisingly, your cargo pants are not in your dresser, but in the bin of seasonal clothes under your bed. How did they get there?

The failure of Cornell University’s “birth control for deer” experiment is an example of how traditional hunting practices are more sound than ideologically driven wildlife management decisions.

...Albino Deer: Kill Them Or Leave Them?
A rare albino deer was taken by 11-year-old Gavin Dingman in the state of Michigan. He shot the deer with a crossbow on hunting trip with his father and is receiving a mixed response across social media outlets.
WZZM13 reports:
“He kind of feels like a rock star right now. Everyone is calling, all of the hunting shows and hunting magazines,” Mick Dingman said.
Wisconsin naturalist John Bates, co-author of “White Deer: Ghosts of the Forest,” said albino deer are born once in about 20,000 births. Some biologists claim only one in 100,000 deer is born albino, the report said.
In February, Russ Chastain made a post asking if visitors would shoot an Albino or Piebald Deer. Has anyone here ever bagged an albino deer? Should Gavin feel proud of his kill?
More Duck Hunters Discovering White-Fronted Geese
Once a pass shooting fancy, more and more Arkansas duck hunters are turning their attention to the pursuit of Greater White-Fronted Geese, also known as specklebellies. These geese have exploded in terms of the number of birds now wintering in Arkansas over the last decade or so. Waterfowlers have taken notice and are working to improve their skills as an alternative or supplement to their traditional mallard hunts.
...Review: Magnum Research Desert Eagle Mark XIX .357 Magnum Pistol
Almost every review of the Magnum Research Desert Eagle will start with something like, “The Desert Eagle is probably one of the most iconic semi-auto firearms in cinematic history, and has probably sold more units to the film prop industry than to actual shooters…” and then blather on and on for paragraphs. Yeah, no kidding. My 14-year old could tell me what gun I had picked up from my FFL dealer just because I told him it was gold. Of course it’s a firearm icon — just look at the thing! Its twice the size and three times the weight of almost any typical gun.
...Hawk 1, Drone 0: Bird of prey attacks quadcopter, takes it down! (VIDEO)
An irate hawk reclaimed its patch of sky from an antagonistic drone this week in Cambridge, Massachusetts, knocking the buzzing recording device out of the sky as easily as its normal prey.
The footage shows the predator skillfully swooping into the camera before swiping at it with its enormous talons and knocking it out of the sky.
This isn’t the first time that local wildlife has attacked invasive drones. In June 2013, researchers at the University of Maryland, funded by the US Army, faced a similar problem. The lifelike Robo-Raven – the wings of which can flap independently of each other – was also attacked by a hawk on one of its flights.

Sure Strike Laser Training Ammunition
Most revolvers have excellent inherent accuracy. Several competent shooters have demonstrated ability to hit silhouette targets out to 200 yards even with 2-inch snubbies. However, revolvers remain difficult for new shooters to master, mainly because of the heavy and long double action trigger pull. Shooting a lot would help with learning trigger control, but the cost of ammunition and, more importantly, the wear on the shooter’s hand from firing lightweight carry guns extensively usually precludes extensive live fire practice. Dry firing is a partial solution, but it doesn’t provide the feedback on accuracy. Shooting .22LR — if you can find the ammo — in a similar gun also helps, but requires range time just like shooting 357Mag.
...Hog Hunting in North Mississippi
Some say there is a wild hog epidemic in Mississippi. Others try to downplay it as just another nuisance species that needs a little more control and eradication effort. Either way you choose to look at it the facts are that free ranging packs of wild pigs are rooting their way around the state destroying valuable croplands, and digging up essential wildlife habitats on both private and public lands.
