ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 30, 2015 – Big and small, power or sail, there are many different kinds of boats and so many different kinds of boat owners. But the one thing they seem to agree on is how boating makes them feel, at least if your looking at a boat’s name on the transom. “Serenity” has been named the #1 boat name for the second year in a row with the release of the 2015 list of Top Ten Boat Names from Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS). It is also the name’s tenth appearance on the popular list of boat names issued annually since 1992 by the recreational boat advocacy, service and safety group. “Calm, peaceful and untroubled is what boating is all about for so many boaters,” said BoatUS spokesman Scott Croft.

Last fall I wrote about a hunt I attended in Minnesota with Remington Outdoors Company. What I wasn’t able to share at the time, due to a media embargo, was a shotgun I field-tested while I was there. On that writers’ hunt I demoed the Remington V3 Field Sport, 12 gauge auto-load shotgun.

The number of women hunters continues to grow, in part because women excel at building communities and sharing stories that bring awareness to the positive force of hunting in our lives. A mother who hunts with her kids takes it as an opportunity to instill the hunting values of compassion, ethics and sustainability in her family, along with providing them with healthy food. Her children are self-sufficient, confident and connected to the outdoor world. Women hunters demonstrate the benefits of sound game management, conservation and community to a wider audience than ever before. All of this is why I believe women are the future of hunting.

Last year the Little Gal (LG) and I gave you a report called The Little Gal Becomes a Trapper, in which, she decided to do some wildlife management via trapping. Years ago, there were larger flocks of turkeys in the area. Over time they had slowly disappeared. LG spoke with a biologist from the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) and got some ideas for wildlife management. She realized the increasing numbers of predators in our area were eradicating the flocks of turkey.
