Took the day off

Wed, 07/02/2014 - 15:20

Took some time off from the blog today to dig a grave for a buddy.

Cholo had an 11 year run. His end came swiftly and unexpectedly last night. His jaw and throat swelled up quite severely and caused some labored breathing. I assumed a snakebite at first, but it was different than previous encounters with snakes. I loaded him into the truck to go to the emergency after hours vet as his regular was closed for the day. It became more and more of a struggle for him to breathe on the 25 minute drive over. Approximately 60 – 90 seconds before arrival, he became very quiet. When I opened the truck door to take him in to the vet’s office, he was no longer breathing and already dead. There was nothing they could do.

Apparently he has had a mass near his throat for a while that ruptured last night. The rupture caused extensive swelling around his trachea, cutting off his air supply. At least he went peacefully and had me with him as he exited the earth.

Thank You

Not Exactly A Sniper

Tue, 07/01/2014 - 08:38

While the TrackingPoint rifle system is very impressive, it does not necessarily make one a sniper.

For example, in the following article a shooter hits a target at 500 yards without even looking downrange at the target. In my mind, a sniper involves significant talent, not blind reliance on technology. I’d love to hit targets at 500 yards with this system, but I would not even consider calling myself a sniper.

Well-Regulated

Mon, 06/30/2014 - 14:30

We hear it constantly from droning citizen control cultists.

The argument goes something like this.

“You want to listen to the last part of the Second Amendment where is says ‘shall not be infringed,’ but you ignore the part where it says you have to be a ‘well-regulated militia.’”

Invariably, they argue that “well-regulated” means “subject to extensive government regulations.”

But what does “well-regulated really mean?

Houston Handgun Instructor Offers Free For Educators

Fri, 06/27/2014 - 15:35

In Houston, a handgun licensing instructor is offering free classes for educators.

Chuck Persinger has won a number of awards for his shooting skills. For the second year in a row, he’s offering all teachers and school employees the chance to take his class for free and many are taking him up on his offer.

School districts in the area currently don’t allow teachers to be armed on school campuses, but that’s something Persinger thinks could change in the future.

“We’ll take up to 50 students and they have to be someone who is already proficient with a handgun,” Persinger said. “In Union Grove, Texas they have now approved their school district and school to carry firearms so someday it may be here so we’re gonna offer CHLs.”

The class is a rigorous five hour course with instructions on how to shoot and conceal a weapon, as well as how to avoid accidentally shooting someone.
