“Boringly Reliable”
Back in Episode 83 of the podcast, Ben said this:
Unfortunately for Ben, his “boringly reliable” pistol made for some great entertainment for the rest of us with his latest video of the Sir Walter USPSA match:

[Podcast] Weapon Retention with Chris Clifton – 85
This week I interviewed Chris Clifton from Defensive Concepts NC about weapon retention for the concealed carrier. We talk about what holsters are good and bad for retaining a pistol in a struggle, why it’s important, and then go through some simple techniques that you can use to retain the pistol.
...The G2 RIP: a Post-mortem
Around the time the G2 RIP, the Radically Invasive Projectile that would “buzzsaw” through barriers and then burst like a grenade in your target, started going around the gun blogosphere, we were quick to jump on it and point out all of the people demonstrating its flaws.
...The Talking Lead Guys Try on a Manzier…
The guys over at Talking Lead did an interview/demonstration with the maker of the Flash Bang holster. ‘Left hand’ ends up putting it on, and hilarity ensues.
Is it a manzier or a bro?

S&W Shield “No Safety” is Official!
Well, it looks official anyways! Gallery of Guns is listing the new Shield in their online store now, which is great news!
Last week I posted about an image that I had come across while surfing on Facebook that showed the S&W Shield “No Safety”, but it wasn’t clear if the image was real at the time. It’s now looking like it’s real, and I’m pretty excited about it.
As far as I can tell, the new SKU for the no safety model of the Shield is 10035 which is probably what you will need if you want to order one of these from your local dealer.
I’m excited about this, removing the safety from the S&W Shield will really help to move it up the ranks of concealed carry pistols.

Chad Thompson Thinks You Can Shoot Better
And I think he’s right. I’ve shot with Chad a couple of times, and in addition to being a hell of a shooter and a good dude, he’s starting a series of YouTube videos on getting into competitive shooting. Check out the first two, and go subscribe to his channel:
...Tampons Aren’t for Gun Shot Wounds
Caleb Causey from Lone Star Medics just published a nice writeup over on the Personal Defense Network site about the myth that tampons are great for packing gunshot wounds. We’ve all heard people mention it whenever the topic of medical kits or gunshot wounds comes up on shooting sites or at the range. I guess I never really gave it much thought, my medical kit doesn’t contain any tampons, but being rather inexperienced when it comes to gun shot wounds, it seemed plausible to me that they would work. Apparently they don’t.
Basically, it comes down to this: tampons aren’t made for stopping pressurized fluids like arterial bleeding, and they aren’t made for saving lives.
Check out the article over at Personal Defense Network, I enjoyed it.

S&W Shield No Thumb Safety
So, I found this on Facebook tonight…
I don’t know if it’s real, or where it was originally published, but I really hope it’s real. The safety was the thing that made the S&W Shield not as good as it could have been, and hopefully S&W has been listening.
I just sold my Shield, but I could be convinced to buy one without the safety…

Competition vs. Real Life – 84
This week we talk about competition vs. real life, and how competitive matches will never be the perfect, but they are the best thing we have.
...WLTX 19 News Piece on South Carolina USPSA Sectional
I thought this was pretty well done, and if you look closely you’ll see NC’s newest Revolver Grand Master John Zaczek shooting the stage.
...Friday Link Day
Here’s some news stories that you may want to check out:
Barry Saunders over at the N&O weighs in on the Pit BBQ robbery. I don’t like his tone, but for the most part, I agree with his point. Actually Ben and I discussed that same point before his article was posted during the news on the latest podcast episode.
California moving to outlaw homemade guns.
Gabby at Gun Nuts Media shoots her first USPSA match.
Women in Nigeria use… wait for it… GUNS to protect themselves from Boko Haram.

I’ve Been Busy Being Lazy…
Thought I’d take a second to check in and let y’all know why there’s been a lack of content this week: I’ve been quite lazy.
No seriously, I’ve been tinkering with my little garden, and spending a lot of time sitting on the back porch with the dog, and it’s been glorious.
On top of being lazy, I’ve been mending some little squash plants back to life, transplanting my peppers and cucumbers, and generally moving things around in the little square foot garden. I never expected that I’d enjoy gardening as much as I do, but I’ve found it to be very satisfying.
So that’s about it, have no fear, I’ll be writing a lot more next week!

Gun Owner OPSEC – 83

It’s a holiday weekend, so I’ll write the full shownotes later, I’m heading out to sit on the porch for a while, I hope you enjoy the show!

My EDC Graveyard
I’m an EDC nerd, and I think I’ve been one since a was a little kid with a pocket knife. I’m not one of the EDC guys that carries a ton of stuff, but I like the stuff that I do carry to actually work. Unfortunately over the years I’ve collected a bunch of EDC gear that just doesn’t do it for me.
