Verizon Drops Outdoor Outdoor and Sportsman Channels
Outdoor Sportsman Group Networks announced on Thursday that cable provider Verizon has dropped Outdoor Channel from its television carriage service. The move comes less than a month after Verizon similarly removed Sportsman Channel from its lineup, and Verizon is now urging viewers to seek "alternative programming" such as the Discovery Channel and History.
“Our partners, advocates and viewers of outdoor lifestyle programming are very disappointed with Verizon’s actions in the last month,” said Jim Liberatore, CEO and President of Outdoor Sportsman Group Networks, in a press...
Bizarre “Sofa Shark” Discovered near Scotland for First Time
The Scottish Shark Tagging Programme (SSTP) announced recently that a false catshark, sometimes known as a sofa shark, was captured off the coast of Barra by marine scientists. Experts said it is the first time that the fish has been confirmed in the region, and despite its strange appearance, the shark is not considered dangerous to humans or native fish species.
"Finding strange and unusual looking elasmobranchs in the deep sea is not uncommon but following a recent deep sea survey scientists from Marine Scotland noticed a species that they had not seen before," SSTP stated on its Read more »
Woman Orders Toy from Toys “R” Us, Receives 800 Rounds of Ammo
Depending on how you look at it, this woman actually got a great deal. Jasemin Stephenson of Virginia Beach was shopping for her six-year-old son online when she found the perfect birthday gift: a foam Minecraft sword from Toys "R" Us. When the toy arrived on Tuesday, however, Stephenson found that the retail chain included something that's not usually in their lineup.
In the box that held the foam sword were boxes of Sellier & Bellot 9x19mm ammunition. In total, the mom said that her order came with 800 rounds, which held a market price of around $180. Compared to the $20...
The 4 Weirdest Deer Species on the Planet
Those of us who live in North America are a bit spoiled when it comes to deer. Decades of dedicated conservation work from hunters to protect the wildlife they love have resulted in the healthiest population of deer anywhere or the planet.
To us, whitetail deer, mule deer, elk, and moose are still fascinating creatures, but we no longer consider them strange or unusual. What people from other parts of the world view as large and intimidating animals, we see simply as our native fauna.
Of course, the same is true the other way around. Here are four foreign deer species that we...
GIF: What a Perfect Duck Shot Looks Like
The dogs didn't even have a chance.
Through a combination of sheer luck and good aim, the hunter in the GIF below was able to blast a duck out of the sky and have it land right in his hand. The trajectory of the fall is what makes this truly impressive, and sure enough, he looked absolutely stunned that he was able to make the catch. At least, we think he is, it's pretty hard to make out in this tiny GIF.
Have you ever made a catch like this? Kind of reminds us of this hunter catching a quail...
The BAREBOW! Chronicles: The Camo Make-up Maneuver
October 9, 2002, found me driving into Bella Coola on the central coast of British Columbia, hoping to find a male grizzly feeding on one of the late-fall salmon runs that were still occurring in many of those coastal rivers. The outfitter I had booked my hunt with possessed a reputation for having produced many large grizzlies for his clients over the years, but, unfortunately, at the time of booking, I didn’t pay sufficient attention to the fact that he had never before had a client who was a bowhunter. Rifle hunting was the only game he knew, and the pair of young, earnest, hardworking...
Ronald Reagan Narrates Shark Bowfishing Video Featuring Howard Hill
Starring in this vintage video is Howard Hill, a man often referred to as the "World's Greatest Archer" for being the the only person to win 196 archery field tournaments in succession.
However, Hill is not the only famous person featured in this 1950s bowfishing footage.
A young President Ronald Reagan narrates the piece--- I'm sure none of the people involved in this production ever thought that they were working with the future 40th President of the United States.

Slow-motion Video: Firing a 1911 Chilled to -65 Degrees Fahrenheit
There are few places on earth that can get down to -65° Fahrenheit. While you are likely to never experience temperatures that cold, it's nice to know that your gun could still function at those low temperatures.
In this video a Remington 1911 R1 was chilled to 65 degrees below zero for two hours before firing. The gun was fired from a rest and it was all recorded in ultra-slow-motion.
While we only get to see one round firing in this short video, you can see the next round chamber as the slide closes.

Survey Asked High School Students How Many Guns Their Parents Owned
Would you let your child answer a survey that wanted to know how many guns you owned, what you used them for, and your political affiliation? Parents of students at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville, Texas were skeptical about a questionnaire their children received and demanded to know where it came from.
After a popular radio host and gun advocate, Michael Cargill of Come and Talk It, shared an image of the survey on social media,...
5 Ways to Stop a Deer in Your Shooting Lane Without Spooking It
If you watch outdoor TV, you've seen it a hundred times: the show host is in a treestand and here comes a buck. The host needs to stop it for the shot so he or she lets out an “Uuuurp!” and the buck does one of three things, all of which are bad. Either the buck takes off, keeps walking, or slams on the brakes and stands there all tensed up, ready to take flight at the slightest sign of danger or the noise of a bowstring.
That deer just went from relaxed to alert with the sound the hunter made. Usually it means your arrow is about to fly right over the buck’s back.
There must be a...
Missouri Angler Catches 100-pound Record Catfish Using Goldfish
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) confirmed recently that a Kansas City man has broken the state "alternative methods" record for flathead catfish with a 100-pound catch.
On September 19, Mathew McConkey caught the massive fish with a four-inch goldfish on a trotline in the Missouri River.
"Once I grabbed the line I knew right away that I had big one," McConkey said. "The giant moved my 17-foot Lowe boat around like it was nothing."
MDC biologists confirmed the behemoth's...
Video: Hysterical Woman Pleads with Bear to Not Eat Her Kayak
When you're miles away from civilization and your only method of transportation is a kayak, you'd probably be pretty hysterical if a bear decided to come along and break it. This video was uploaded to YouTube earlier this week by Mary Maley, who recorded the footage during a solo kayak trip in Alaska from Ketichikan to Petersburg. While drying her stuff near a cabin in Berg Bay, Maley came across an inquisitive bear.
"I had just carried my tent, food, and all my gear into the cabin to dry while I went on a 4 mile hike that begins just behind the cabin," she wrote. "I heard something outside...
Quiz: Can We Guess Your Favorite Gun Brand?
Just like cars, shoes, and ice cream, just about every gun owner has a favorite brand. Usually it's the brand they stick to the most. A quick look through most people's gun cabinets will generally tell you what manufacturers they favor. We don't have the privilege of looking through your collection, but we may have a way to tell your favorite firearms brand through this short quiz.
Unfortunately, the format limits us to only eight companies and we had to leave some very notable brands off the quiz. What remains is Colt, Glock, Heckler and Koch, Remington, Beretta, Sig Sauer, Ruger, and...
Video: What Happens When Bear Spray Goes Off in Your Car
Puncturing a can of bear spray is not a recipe for good times. Puncturing a can of bear spray inside your car, while you are on a freeway, can very well be life-threatening.
Unlike pepper spray, which has a relatively small range, bear sprays can shoot up to 30 feet in range. The added distance is useful for deterring bears getting ready to charge, but can fill up your car very quickly. Bear spray is also significantly more powerful than most pepper sprays marketed for self-defense.
"This is what happens when someone scoots a seat back and accidentally punctures a can of bear spray in a...
I Hated Subcompact Pistols Until I Shot the SCCY CPX-2
The world of small carry guns is a crowded one that is dominated by a handful of big-name manufacturers. Ask any shooter what they carry and chances are you will receive a response including one of the following brand names: Glock, Smith & Wesson, Ruger, Sig Sauer, Beretta, or Kel-Tec. Each of those companies offers a number of different compact and subcompact handguns, catering to the needs and tastes of just about every shooter out there.
One name that has been gradually working its way into that storied bunch is SCCY (pronounced “sky”). SCCY is focused solely on producing...
Historic Footage Shows President FDR Catching 80-Pound Tarpon
It's always interesting to look back at old footage and find historical figures engaging in the same outdoor pursuits we enjoy today.
This vintage footage comes to us from the FDR Presidential Library. This press reel shows President Franklin D. Roosevelt on a 1937 fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico.
The video says that the tarpon was only 80 pounds, but it sure looks bigger to us.

Video: House Cats Can’t Figure Out Whether Stuffed Bobcat is Alive
This may be a case of taxidermy being too life-like. Curious about how their cats will react to the presence of a stuffed bobcat, these pet owners decided to introduce one of the "wild" felines into their home. Cats being cats, they just had to investigate the intruder. One of them even eventually musters the courage to slowly inch forward and give the bobcat a good sniff.
Predictably, their reaction is priceless.
It should be noted that bobcats are one of the most common predators of domesticated felines. Bobcats will readily hunt down feral house cats or even a free-roaming pet if...
Browning Introduces Full Line of Ammunition
Browning has finally decided to throw its hat back into the ammo-making business. The 137-year-old company announced recently that it will be introducing a full line of ammunition for hunting, personal defense, and target shooting.
"The development of Browning Ammunition will provide millions of men and women, including new shooters and hunters across the world, with 'The Best There Is,'" Browning stated in a press release.
Production of the ammunition line is made possible through a partnership with...
Florida Angler Catches State Record Shoal Bass
The Chipola River is arguably the best place in all of Florida to catch shoal bass, and according to experts, there is no better time than now. As proof of that fact, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) announced that the state record for shoal bass has been broken yet again by a fish from the Chipola.
On September 19, 41-year-old Stewart Mayeaux pulled an impressive four-pound, 14-ounce shoal bass from the river, beating the state's previous jointly-held record.
"When the fish hit, at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, it dove for the bottom, trying to rub the treble-hook...
