There are a lot of gun designs out there that have never really panned out. Thu, 07/30/2015 - 16:11

Birthdays are special events, but Guy Kitaoka may be remembering his 58th more for the massive marlin he caught than anything else. According to KITV, Kitaoka caught a 1,368-pound marlin from the coast of Kona, Hawaii on Tuesday, drawing a crowd of 50 to 60 people as his ship docked for the weigh-in. "For all fishermen, catching a grander is something you wish for. When I finally got mine, man I was stoked!" Kitoaka said. The angler has been fishing since he was eight, both for personal...

This Inspirational Video Shows Perfectly Who Hunters Are

Thu, 07/30/2015 - 15:27

There's little denying that hunting can be a controversial subject. Hunters are constantly reminded that there is a large and vocal opposition to hunting. You only have to stick your head out and read up on stories like Cecil the lion to see how strong that opposition is, and how cutting the rhetoric can be. The simple fact is that hunters and anti-hunters see the taking of game differently. To a hunter, it's about conservation, the tradition of the hunt, and putting food on...

Video: Accurate Pistol Systems’ Non-NFA Pistol “Rest” in Action

Thu, 07/30/2015 - 15:02

The Sig Brace has been somewhat of a legal gray area since it was introduced. The "dynamic rest" from Accurate Pistol Systems (APS) is sure to follow in the footsteps of that device. According to APS, the rest is designed to improve the stability, safety, and accuracy of a handgun. It seems to do a very good job as you can see in the video below. The founder, Rober Gilmer also makes it very clear that since this is not attached to the pistol in any way, it...

Missouri Man Shoots 14-foot Python, Larger 18-footer Captured in Florida

Thu, 07/30/2015 - 14:38

Two huge Burmese pythons were caught and killed recently, one by a homeowner in Missouri's rural Warren County, and the other by a researcher in Florida's Shark Valley. Burmese pythons are considered to be a highly invasive species across the American Southeast, especially in Everglades National Park, where the slithery creatures have started to colonize. Experts say the snakes threaten native wildlife species like ground-nesting birds, but it seems that the reptiles also have an appetite for domestic animals as well. For days, a massive 14-foot python had stalked a community near...

Thu, 07/30/2015 - 12:05

Slide Fire stocks are fun rifle and shotgun accessories that allow the user to fire their gun much more rapidly than they normally could with their trigger finger. They can be difficult to get the hang of. On a recent trip to the range to film some guns firing in slow motion, a gentleman with a Slide Fire-equipped AR-15 was burning through mag after mag. We had to record his bump-firing skills in action! Watch the footage below. And don't forget to check out our Read more »

Video: Wolf Taken Down by 90-yard “Arrow Bomb”

Thu, 07/30/2015 - 10:14

Tim Wells of Relentless Pursuit has some of the best euphemisms in hunting, whether he is "slocking" antelope or dropping "arrow bombs" on prairie dogs. In this video, Tim shows off his long range expertise by arrowing a wolf from 90 yards away. https://youtu.be/tqOYvXPU5Aw Not everyone agrees with taking long-distance shots with a bow. It can be hard---especially in low-light conditions---to make accurate shots on even a larger animal like a wolf. In the end, however, Tim did manage to bag one of these notorious predators. We do wish that the shot itself had been centered...

Thu, 07/30/2015 - 07:52

The songs of wild birds may be music to our ears, but if you're in a survival situation, they might as well be dinner bells. This week we are going to discuss the harvest of wild birds and their eggs for sustenance. As a rule of thumb, almost all birds are edible. When it comes to taste, however, birds can be hit or miss. If you're ever in a situation where you have to depend on eating birds for survival, however, flavor will be the last of your worries. As we touched on in the Read more »

Los Angeles Bans Ownership of “Large Capacity” Magazines

Thu, 07/30/2015 - 07:38

On Tuesday, the Los Angles City Council voted unanimously to ban to possession of "large capacity" magazines in the city, defined by lawmakers as any magazine capable of holding over 10 rounds. More than 15 years ago, the State of California outlawed the manufacture, purchase, or import of these magazines in the state, but allowed residents to keep those owned before January 1, 2000 through a grandfather clause. Supporters of the recent city council decision say the measure will close off a "dangerous" loophole. “People who want to defend their families don’t need a 100-round drum...

Video: The World’s Deadliest Snake Forgets How to Snake

Wed, 07/29/2015 - 15:22

Black mambas are often regarded as the deadliest snakes in the world, but this one is going no where fast. This video of a black mamba snake was filmed in Kruger National Park, South Africa. The snake in question appears to be completely unable to slither across the road. We're not sure if the unfamiliar pavement simply confused the snake or if this is a more well-known behavior. Either way it's very strange considering the fact that the black mamba is the fastest snake in the world according to...

Wed, 07/29/2015 - 15:09

Almost overnight, a Minnesota dentist by the name of Walter Palmer became one of the most sought-after and reviled men in the world. Palmer was identified by several sources earlier this week as the man who killed Cecil the lion, a popular black-maned male in Zimbabwe's Gwayi Conservancy. Palmer is reportedly being sought by the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority, which has already charged Palmer's guide, Theo Bronchorst, and a landowner, Honest Trymore Ndlovu. "Theo Bronchorst, a professional hunter with Bushman Safaris is facing criminal charges for allegedly...

Are Custom and Premium ARs Worth Their Price Tags?

Wed, 07/29/2015 - 14:15

Knee-jerk reactions are common in the firearms community. They may be the most common basis for the “opinions” of many shooters, from neophyte to expert. Often expressed with zero forethought, study, or even knowledge, they are prolific and hormonal. It’s the basis for most social media---opinion without substance. One of the most persistent reactions, which is in fact a judgment quietly couched in a question, is “who needs premium/custom/expensive guns?” Every aspect of the firearms industry is subjected to this slight, from pistol to precision rifle. The AR (and most...

Photo: 10-foot Alligator Found in Minor League Dugout

Wed, 07/29/2015 - 11:08

Alligators in Florida get just about everywhere, and apparently that includes ballparks as well. Groundskeepers at Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte discovered a 10-foot alligator curled up underneath the benches in the visiting team's dugout last Friday, just hours before a game. Seeing as how the alligator had no intention of vacating the premises, Kyle Mckenzie of the Stone Crabs, an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, took a picture of the gator and posted it to Twitter.

There is a 10 foot alligator just chilling in the visiting teams dugout at our field ...

Video: Hickok45’s In-depth Woods Walk with the Walther P38

Wed, 07/29/2015 - 10:44

The German-made Walther P38 is probably the second-most famous sidearm from World War II, but it's often overshadowed by the 1911. Luckily for us gun fans, YouTuber Hickok45 gives the P38 some excellent up-close and personal camera time in the video below. The specific P38 in the video was a military-issued gun so it has a lot of history behind it, but for the last 60 years or so it's just been shooting targets. Watch this video as Hickok45 praises the design of the P38 from an angle that shows as much of this...
