...11 Great Pistol Caliber Carbines
The most obvious reason to own a carbine and a rifle in the same caliber is practicality. If your rifle and your handgun use the same cartridge, that means you’ll only have to track down one type of ammunition to shoot both guns. This is one of the primary reason that famed nineteenth century rifles, like the Winchester 1873, were chambered for cartridges that would also function in the wheelguns of the day. If you’re traveling across the trackless wilderness of the American West on horseback, there’s not a lot of space for additional ammo.

...Best States for Gun Owners 2015
Our founders’ experiment in self-government gave us the gift of Federalism, where states unite under a centralized governing authority while honoring a state’s rights. Though the power of the federal government has increased, the United States still maintains great contrast on the subject of gun ownership. Gun rights vary from states that have all but made it impossible to own firearms and related accessories to states where few restrictions exist. For the third consecutive year and first time in print, Guns & Ammo presents our assessment of each state’s gun laws in a format that ranks them from worst to first for gun owners.

...Great Programs for Youth Shooters
I was fortunate enough that I grew up with a father who was not only an avid shooter but also a very good instructor. A teacher by trade, he did a good job of introducing me to the sport of shooting, making safety the primary focus of each session and helping me improve my technique to improve accuracy. Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate his guidance and the very special set of circumstances that allowed me to develop into a competitive shooter and, later, a professional gun writer. My dad was very knowledgeable about firearms, he took the time to teach me the basics, and we had a place to shoot right outside our back door.
...One Shot, One Kill: Intelligent Steiner Optics
For the soldier on a battlefield, it’s a full-time job staying aware and alive, which forces accuracy and precision to take a backseat at times. For every insurgent killed in the Iraq War, the United States military fired about 250,000 rounds. Steiner Optic USA hopes to improve those numbers.
...Video at the Range: Magnum Research Desert Eagle
In 1971, Clint Eastwood in “Dirty Harry” declared his Smith & Wesson Model 29 to be “the most powerful handgun in the world.” Chambered in the .44 Magnum cartridge, it certainly ranked among the most powerful guns at the time, all of which were revolvers. But eight years later, Magnum Research Industries developed a semi-automatic pistol which would eventually chamber the monstrous cartridge.

...Velocity Systems Boss Rugby Shirt Review
I don’t know about you, but the summer heat is already starting to get to me. Shooting season is in full swing, which means sweltering-hot days out on the range. I’ve been on a quest to find a shirt that’s appropriate to wear to the office and the range, as those two tend to blend together. Hot, sweaty cotton T-shirts are not what I want to sit in all day, nor are they appropriate in most office settings. On the other hand, a tight synthetic base layer under a performance polo shirt is not that much better. They wick moisture from your skin and don’t retain perspiration like cotton, but they don’t breathe as well and tend to take on an odor over time.
...The Guns of Hollywood
I recently had the opportunity to spend some time with the professional armorers at Independent Studio Services (ISS), where I was given access to the weapon vault and some of the most iconic guns in Hollywood history. At ISS, their talented gunsmiths not only keep the action rolling on film, but they also provide a complete machine shop with all of the proper permits and a crew capable of manufacturing anything that a director can envision. From the electric mini-guns seen in modern war movies to some really cool science-fiction-style blasters, ISS keeps churning out the hits.
