Video: Hunters Bag Coyote with 1,860-yard Shot

Thu, 05/08/2014 - 07:09

In normal circumstances, .300 Win Mag and .338 Lapua are relatively big and expensive calibers to be taking coyotes with. For the two hunters in the video below, the additional cost of a heavier, powerful cartridge is a small price to pay for long-range performance. The hunters make two shots on a coyote a little over a mile away---roughly 1,860 yards. According to the video's description, the shots were made simultaneously, although it was the .338 that struck and killed the 'yote. http://youtu.be/6q2ZMTZxHxo...

Food Plot Strategies for Summer Growth and Retention

Wed, 05/07/2014 - 15:42

When most hunters think of planning food plots, the number-one thing on their mind is to bring a buck to the plot during the hunting season. What many people do not realize is that bringing that buck in front of your sights during the season starts in the spring and summer. One of the keys to having deer on your property during the hunting season is having them acclimated to and comfortable on the property all year long. The right summer food plot will not only hold the bucks on your land, but it will increase the number of does and fawns on your land, too, which will pay off during the rut...

The Eastern CMP Games: Military Rifles on the Range

Wed, 05/07/2014 - 14:13

When the targets began to rise, I dropped to one knee, planted my left elbow where it should be on the mat, and cycled the bolt on the M1 Garand. The first two shots felt pretty good, except I had a little trouble focusing on the front sight. After the first two shots, the familiar “ping” of the M1's clip ejecting reminded me to reload, and the process went smoothly. I did my best to breathe the rifle up into the target, and pin the trigger smoothly,...
