Tue, 04/22/2014 - 08:17

Roily, muddy, full of prop-eating backwater stumps and always challenging: That’s what Bassmaster Elite Series pro Stephen Browning loves about the Red River. “I grew up fishing the lower Arkansas River, which is very similar to the Red. So when the fishing’s tough and half the field is intimidated by the nasty water, I feel like I know how to get in there like a bulldozer and power over anything and get to the bass,” Browning said. Browning of Hot Springs, Ark., is among the pros on deck at the Red River out of Shreveport, La., for the Thursday-Saturday Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster...

Shooting Myths: Competitive Shooting Will Get You Killed on the Street

Tue, 04/22/2014 - 08:13

Why is it that Internet opinions are so binary? Black or white, right or wrong, my way or the highway---it’s kind of like politics in the real world. ".45 is the only caliber! Because you only need to shoot once!" "9x19mm is fantastic---if you want to shoot balloons." "Competitive shooting tactics will get you killed on the street!" As with anything in life, there is rarely all right or all wrong. I tend to think in terms of better, better still, and even more better. Or on the flip side, I like to consider worse, way worse, and worse than Piers Morgan’s...

There are an estimated six million active and retired AFL-CIO union members who hunt, fish, or shoot in the United States. That alone would make them the largest constituency of outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen in North America. So it comes as no big surprise that after only six and a half years in operation, the Union...
