Florida Anglers Catch Possible World Record Mako Shark
Two cousins from Milton, Florida are in the spotlight after they reeled in a 11-foot, 805-pound shortfin mako shark from a beach last Tuesday. According to the Penasacola News Journal, Joey and Earnie Polk's recent catch may be in the running for the heaviest mako shark taken from land.

This past Friday and Saturday April 18th & 19th Crappie USA held 2-day $10,000.00 super event on the Kentucky & Barkley Lakes at Paris, Tennessee. Nearly 200 anglers from 12 different states were competing for not only the $15,400.00 in cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. Florida and Louisiana Join Texas in Fisheries Stand-off
On April 10, the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) sent a national bulletin announcing that the Gulf of Mexico red snapper fishery had "all but closed" to recreational anglers. Citing a recent court decision brought about with help from Environmental Defense Fund, the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council asked NOAA Fisheries to implement more rigid restrictions in federal waters on the basis of 2013 recreational data collection results, moving to create an 11-day red snapper season in the Gulf.

Fish and Game Commission Adopts 2014 Big-Game Tag Quotas
The California Fish and Game Commission (FGC) finalized big-game tag quotas at their April 15 meeting in Ventura. A total of 204,337 deer, 316 elk, 200 pronghorn antelope and 14 bighorn sheep tags were approved for distribution to California’s hunters for the 2014 hunting season.
