Thu, 04/17/2014 - 09:30

Nation Southern Divisional on Lake Eufaula. With Georgia’s Chase Hancock holding the top spot with 18 pounds, 14 ounces since the beginning of the weigh-in, Murphy brought up the day’s final bag and dropped 19-12 on the scales to secure the lead. Video: Lone Wolf Pursues Elk into River

Thu, 04/17/2014 - 07:14

Wolves are pack predators, but hunger can drive them on to attempt to tackle even the largest of prey alone. The video below was recorded last year in Yellowstone National Park and shows a gray wolf doggedly pursuing an elk. As a herd of nearby bison watch on, the elk carefully positions itself in the relative safety of the river. The wolf, however, is very determined. The dramatic footage was taken by the Boone and Crockett Club's Tony Schoonen, who was among a crowd that gathered to watch the epic confrontation play out. Unfortunately, he was...

Offbeat Calling Can Help Fill Your Turkey Tag

Wed, 04/16/2014 - 15:43

The turkeys around here seem like they're getting tougher to kill each year. No, they're not starting to wear Kevlar---they're becoming more resistant to my calling efforts, and it's getting frustrating, to say the least. That's okay, though, for I still have a few tricks up my camouflaged sleeve for these persnickety old gobblers. With turkey hunting gaining popularity each year, more turkeys are being subjected to a barrage of hunters’ best calling efforts. One way to combat this and tip the odds a little in your favor is to keep them guessing and get out of your comfort zone a bit by...

The New Plano Tackle Boxes Offer Best-in-Class Construction

Wed, 04/16/2014 - 14:13

Seems like we’re constantly organizing and re-arranging baits for easier on-the-water access. We’ve got binders, bags, StowAways®, and specialty boxes that do everything but slice roast beef. And that’s all well and good. Sometimes, though, the perfect tackle box is a rugged and reliable old school tray design—like the no-fail Plano we fished with as a kid. Rod in one hand, Plano in the other, we sneaked through fence openings, dangled the box off BMX bike handlebars, and pedaled all over creation looking for anything that’d bite, like bass spied in the shallows or ravenous small...
