If You Work on Your Guns, You Need a Wheeler F.A.T. Wrench On Your Bench

Thu, 09/02/2021 - 07:00

If you do any work on your guns — from putting a red dot on your pistol, installing a new handguard or mounting a rifle scope, you know how important it is to use the right torque for each job. Too little torque and screws will work loose under recoil. Too much and you could damage your optic or rifle.

That’s why every gun owner needs an accurate, affordable Wheeler F.A.T. Wrench to do the job right.

Gun Meme of the Day: Arming the Taliban, Part 3

Wed, 09/01/2021 - 17:00

Working diligently to ban semi-automatic rifles domestically while leaving over 400,000 fully-automatic rifles (plus 126k pistols and freakin’ artillery) for the Taliban? Hmm, maybe I’m in the wrong industry . . . I’ve heard oil and gas pipeline work is lucrative.

Here’s an image from the NY Times showing what we’ve left behind for the Taliban (and others):

Fake News: Fact Checking the Media’s Anti-Gun Fact Checkers

Wed, 09/01/2021 - 15:00

By Lee Williams

For today’s media, factchecking is an entry-level job.

Most media factcheckers are liberal, woke, in their early 20s, and politically biased. Most have never even touched a firearm, yet they wade into gun and Second Amendment issues as though they’re the reincarnation of Jeff Cooper or Bill Jordan. But unlike those distinguished gentlemen, the factcheckers usually get it wrong.

This is the problem, because even though most factcheckers are fresh out of college and lack any real journalism experience, they wield tremendous power.

Governor Roy Cooper Likes North Carolina’s Jim Crow Gun Control Law Just Fine

Wed, 09/01/2021 - 13:00

By Larry Keane

North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper had an opportunity to end his state’s discriminatory Jim Crow-era law. Legislation to repeal the state’s requirement for citizens to obtain a pistol purchase permit from their local sheriff was passed by state lawmakers and sent to his desk for signature, in what would have ended a practice known to discriminate against African-American gun buyers. Instead, he vetoed the measure.

The move was expected, yet it is still disappointing that politicians side with gun control measures even when they prove to be racially discriminating.

There’s Now a New Political Standard for the Justifiable Use of Force by Police

Wed, 09/01/2021 - 09:00

We may understand [Capitol Hill Police Lieutenant Michael] Byrd’s fears and not know exactly what was in his mind at the moment he fired. But if police had applied to the 2020 Black Lives Matter riots the same standard that was applied to Byrd’s shooting of Babbitt, then hundreds—if not thousands—of rioters around the country, including those who broke into government buildings, could have been legally gunned down, even if they were unarmed. Does anyone think that such shootings would have been justified by those who now laud Byrd, or that the cops involved would not have been dismissed and put on trial?

Hurricanes and Supply Chains: 2021 Edition

Tue, 08/31/2021 - 17:00

During these very strange and trying times, now seemed to be a good time to do a quick industry update. A lot of items are still hard to come by and are only being distributed to larger accounts. Ammo is starting to come back, but prices are a lot higher than they were before, amidst newly increased demand from news of a Russian importation ban.

One thing that the supply chain really wasn’t counting on was the 2021 hurricane season.

The (Current) Truth About Afghanistan and Americans Who Have Been Left Behind

Tue, 08/31/2021 - 13:00

Despite what some TTAG staff and members of my own family may have thought, I was not in Afghanistan and I haven’t been there in a decade. I wasn’t part of the Pineapple Express, and to be honest I’m not completely sure what that is. I am not special forces and definitely not one of the cool kids.

I was teaching emergency rescue techniques in South Africa to the local tribal anti-poaching units and when I came out of the bush late last week I found out about all that was happening in Afghanistan.

FN’s New Upgraded SCAR Rifles Feature Dual Non-Reciprocating Charging Handles

Tue, 08/31/2021 - 08:05

One of the few gripes that some shooters have with FN’s venerable SCAR rifle platform is its reciprocating charging handle. Our own Foghorn, who used to shoot for Team FN, went so far as to design a folding charging handle for the rifle he used in competition. Now, however, FN America has removed that complaint by now offering their SCAR 16S, 17S, and 20S rifles with dual ambidextrous charging handles.

Here’s FN’s press release .

North Carolina Governor Vetoes Bill That Would Have Eliminated Gun Purchase Permits

Tue, 08/31/2021 - 08:00

“Gun permit laws reduce gun homicides and suicides and reduce the availability of guns for criminal activity. At a time of rising gun violence, we cannot afford to repeal a system that works to save lives. The legislature should focus on combating gun violence instead of making it easier for guns to end up in the wrong hands.”

— North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper

Gun Meme of the Day: Arming The Taliban Edition

Mon, 08/30/2021 - 18:00

Spoiler alert: all of the memes this week will be on this same topic. Why?…

That’s what we left behind (that we know of and admit to). I guess one of our chief advantages in the region — the ability to operate at night as the only ones on the ground who could see in the dark — is now gone. Then again, so are we.

The City of Wichita Raked In Almost $200,000 Selling Seized Guns in the Last Five Years

Mon, 08/30/2021 - 14:00

From the Associated Press . . .

One of he biggest gun dealers in south-central Kansas is the city of Wichita, but it actually received less than half the proceeds from the sales because it works with several online companies to auction off the firearms.

Since a new state law allowing the gun sales was passes in 2015, Wichita has sold 2,082 guns that were seized during a variety of crimes, but were no longer needed because the criminal cases were complete.

About Those SIG P320 Lawsuits . . .

Mon, 08/30/2021 - 12:00

Like many of our readers, we’ve been watching the slow drip, drip, drip of lawsuits accumulate over the past couple of years against SIG Sauer. These suits allege that their ultra-popular P320 pistol can fire without the trigger being pulled. Some of the plaintiffs claim the pistol can fire without the trigger even being touched.

The latest of these suits was filed last week in US District Court in Massachusetts. It alleges that Walter Collette, Jr., a police officer with the Somerville (Mass.) Police Department, was wounded when his P320 duty gun discharged “without a trigger pull” while he was carrying it in a gym bag “wrapped carefully with a cloth.” Officer Collette was wounded in his left leg.

Capitol Police Officer’s Explanation for Shooting and Killing Ashli Babbitt Is Riddled With Problems

Mon, 08/30/2021 - 10:00

When the Capitol Hill riot — or the “insurrection” as the mainstream media like to refer to it — took place on January 6th, conservatives questioned why Ashli Babbitt was shot and killed. Babbitt was a veteran who was unarmed and was shot to death by Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd.

Up until now, I have given the unidentified officer the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he thought she had a gun. Maybe he thought she had a knife or another type of weapon.

Wackos Dial Up the Fear, Disinformation As Constitutional Carry Becomes Law in Texas Wednesday

Mon, 08/30/2021 - 08:00

“When it comes down to it, it’s just a sense of disappointment that the bill ultimately was passed,” Kevin Lawrence, executive director of the Texas Municipal Police Association, told the Texas Tribune.

There was some pretense on the eve of the 2021 legislative session among Republican state leaders to promise tightened gun laws and improved background checks, with the people’s memories still fresh of mass shootings in El Paso and Midland-Odessa.
