Weekend Photo: WWII Beretta M1934
Jacob sent us a photo of his Beretta dating back to the last months of WWII. He writes … I saw your POTD of the Beretta Model 20 and I thought I might share a photo of my Beretta M1934, an ancestor of the Model 20. Mine is from 1944, and has German acceptance marks. […]

Aero Precision Launches Gen 2 AR Lower Receivers
Aero Precision has launched their second generation of AR lower receivers. Aero still starts from 7076 forgings, but has taken the time to add features many shooters would enjoy. Specifically, the magazine well has been flared, the selector switch is a new set of pictograms (and compatible with Battle Arms Development’s short-throw safety/selectors), and includes a […]

Ballistic Gel Test of A .577/.450 Martini-Henry
The caliber wars have raged for as long as there have been calibers. At the end of last year, we looked at an article from 1891 deriding as useless small caliber rounds – that is, .30 caliber rounds – versus their larger .45 caliber counterparts. But how do these compare, really? One extra data point has […]

TFBTV: Texas Hog Guns
Texas has been overrun by hogs, which have created a startling problem for farmers and landowners across our great state. For these pesky pack animals, sometimes grandpa’s 30-30 wont cut it so modern hunters have decided to bring more modern equipment. Hog collaborate in packs of over 20 animals at one time, so modern sporting […]

MSAR Tooling To Be Purchased Soon?
Earlier, we covered Microtech Small Arms Research’s immediate close and the sale of their assets. As a result of his coverage of the closure, Ethan of Aftermath Gun Club received several emails from a well known manufacturer seeking to buy the MSAR tooling. As Ethan is not affiliated with Microtech, these emails left him understandably confused: […]

A look inside the “worst military pistol ever made”
All right, I should probably clarify that the Japanese Type 94 isn’t the worst military pistol I can think of. There are a few Chinese contenders right out front. But it certainly had a cumbersome appearance and a fatal flaw. A quick history, Kijiro Nambu had been working on a Campo-Giro descended pistol with an […]

Bird of Prey Compensator
The Bird of Prey Compensator is quite a different design from normal muzzle devices. Rather than being CNC lathed, this is made with milled out plates. The plates are stacked and provide more surface area for the muzzle blast to interact with. Mark Miller of the Loadout Room got his hands on […]

Ammo Prices: 03/20/2015
.223 Rem seems to be stabilizing after the scare--a short term run that didn't really tax manufacturing capabilities. What seemed a little more odd this week is that .22LR is creeping up again. Most places are $0.12/rd and greater (which is silly). Other prices and calibers seem to be generally holding prices and availability.

POTD: Guns on Death Row
This photo was taken in Serbian in 2012 during the destruction of 17,000 confiscated firearms. The most striking thing about the photo, at least to me, is what terrible quality the weapons are. Among the serviceable weapons there are piles of ancient rusted revolvers and cheap Chinese air rifles. Like most gun destruction programs, they tend to […]

A visit to Buds Gunshop
As part of my road trip to Louisiana, I also stopped by Lexington, Kentucky. There I bought a pistol but in the conversation with the seller, he pointed out that Bud’s Gunshop is located in Lexington. So of course I had to pay them a visit. Buds Gunshop is a little notorious on the internet, […]

Spike’s Tactical Compressor ST
Spike’s Tactical brought out their Compressor ST out at Big 3 East last week. At first glance it looks like any other suppressed SBR AR. That is until you start seeing the subtle attention to detail. The gas tube would over heat due to the length. So they solved this by wrapping the gas […]

XM42: A Crowdfunded Flamethrower
A group calling themselves the Ion Productions Team are crowdfunding a handheld flamethrower they call the XM42 (I am not sure where the name comes from … a movie? Or are they referencing the Abwehrflammenwerfer 42, Germany’s huge WWII flamethrower mine?). The XM42 does not have a high pressure gas tank and the investors have avoided showing how […]
