How to Detonate Explosives the Peshmerga Way

Fri, 02/20/2015 - 04:00

According to their laws, the Iraqi Army isn’t allowed to enter Iraqi Kurdistan. Because of that they have the Peshmerga, the military forces who provide security for that region. “Peshmerga” literally translates as “one who confronts death” and these soldiers are fairly fearsome warriors with a history extending back thousands of years. As for the […]

Epic Bullpup Conversion: Howa 1500 .300 Win Mag

Thu, 02/19/2015 - 15:30

TFB reader BenJamin converted a bolt-action Howa 1500 chambered in .300 Win Mag into a beautiful bullpup that in my mind resembles the rarer-than-unicorns Walther WA 2000, although it was the Keppeler & Fritz KS II Precision that inspired him. BenJamin wrote … This is my Howa 1500 .300 Win Mag I converted into a bullpup. I machined the aluminum […]

Thu, 02/19/2015 - 15:05

We here at TFB are big fans of Bond Arms. I first met Gordon Bond at a media event in Florida, and there he invited me to take a factory tour back home in Texas to see what his company is all about. What I saw was nothing short of amazing; Modern machining technology combined […]

Brügger & Thomet APC 556/300 Coming in 2015

Thu, 02/19/2015 - 12:01

I’ve kept my eyes open for literature regarding the new Brügger & Thomet carbine family, since I managed to miss their booth at the 2015 SHOT Show. Fortunately, Defense Review covered the rifle at the show, which appears to be essentially similar in operation to the AR-180 and G36 (I haven’t seen any pictures of the […]

Weekly Ammo: 02/19/2015

Thu, 02/19/2015 - 10:52

Week 41. So, I’d like to address the casing type. At this point (with only 11 more weeks of this experiment), adding in any additional vectors would literally double (at the least) the work. Not all of the vendors clearly identify casing which then necessitates manually parsing the descriptions of each listing. Yes, some are […]

Double Barreled AOW

Thu, 02/19/2015 - 06:08

I found these images in a Facebook group but the person who posted them did not know their origins and was trying to find more information. Looking at the images below it looks like the circular button may be a safety. I think you hold it like a knife handle and your fingers wrap around […]

Ruger PC9 carbine Review

Wed, 02/18/2015 - 15:30

Frank Stratton at our sister site All Outdoors has reviewed the Ruger PC9, the Ruger 10/22-esqe 9mm carbine. Frank writes … The roots of its design are from the 20th Century 2nd generation carbines. That means no rails or pistol grip, no muzzle break/flash hider, and night sights. It is a solid firearm that will […]

Historic Pre-ban Assault Rifles: The AR-180

Wed, 02/18/2015 - 15:05

It was 1982, President Reagan was in the White House, and the Soviets weren't having it. The whole world was nervous. We were at the height of the Cold War, and a nuclear exchange seemed like a real possibility. There was a survivalist craze upon the land, and I was not immune. I wanted a trusty .223 caliber weapon for farm defense, or hunting ground hogs, whichever came first.

Jerry Miculek Does It Again

Wed, 02/18/2015 - 14:11

Competition shooter Jerry Miculek needs no introduction (or explanation). Here he gets off three consecutive shots on targets from 400 yards – off a bench – in under 4.4 seconds. Watching Jerry in action never gets old and I personally enjoy seeing his entire process. Unlike some shooters, who would only show viewers their best shots, […]

Vienna Museum

Wed, 02/18/2015 - 12:01

Blogger oper-1974 recently covered a trip he made to the Heeresgeschichtliches Museum (Military History Museum) in Vienna, Austria. In the museum are many artifacts from Austria’s rich military history, most dating from periods outside my expertise, and thus thwarting my ability to identify them. Fortunately, oper-1974 has provided descriptions for the images. Highlights below:     […]

MARSOC Authorized to Use Glock 19s

Wed, 02/18/2015 - 09:09

MARSOC has won a small victory in attaining authorization to use Glock 19 handguns in qualifications. Soldier Systems has the story: In a Marine Corps MARADMIN message issued last week, MARSOC is authorized to use GLOCK 19 pistols, but as USSOCOM assets. This weapon has been used by SOF assets for some time and MARSOC […]

Coming Soon: Kalashnikov Competition 12-Gauge

Wed, 02/18/2015 - 06:08

The TFB staff meticulously combs through SHOT Show, but somehow we missed this little gem: Kalashnikov USA has shown a competition-oriented 12-gauge shotgun. Twitter user ArmedResearch pictured the red gun* on display in the RWC/Kalashnikov booth. Immediately obvious is the new forearm and the gargantuan left-side charging handle. Only a few specifications were published at […]
