The absurdity of the assault weapons definition

Wed, 02/12/2014 - 13:16

Bells and whistles.

That is what makes a rifle an ASSUALT rifle and it is ridiculous.

If we  apply the same notion of demonizing to other items that we do to rifles  the absurdity becomes clear.

You want a car with cup holders?  It’s an ASSAULT car.

Your kid wants a tricycle with a horn, it’s an ASSUALT trike.

If your spouse wants a vacuum cleaner with an extendable wand…ASSAULT vacuum.

By and large these things do not change the nature or the function of the item, they simply are some bells and whistles that the owner can enjoy.  But cup holders do not make a car any more dangerous nor does a pistol grip or collapsible stock make a rifle so.

But to illustrate the absurdity of attacks on so called “assault” weapons and the ignorance that gun controllers bring to the table in doing so, take a look at the following video:

I love the dichotomy between gun controllers ignorance and gun owners ingenuity.

No innocent is an underdog when they have a gun to level the field

Tue, 02/11/2014 - 11:07

Though it came out years before I was born I do recall watching reruns of the Underdog cartoon show as a child.  I remember the Underdog float in the Macy’s day parade.  Why the sudden nostalgia for a cartoon that turns 50 years old this year?  I came across the theme song the other day and it got me thinking about the world in general.

The lyrics are rather apropos for a gun site such as mine.  As such I made the following video that is amusing but also thought provoking.  The good honest people who rise to the occasion when others cry out for a hero are just regular folk.  Old, young, women, men…the only common denominator among them is that they are ARMED and therefore ABLE to fight back against those who would rob or plunder.

Hope you enjoyed that.

As a bonus here are the lyrics to the song:

————————————————————–

When criminals in this world appear
and break the laws that they should fear
and frighten all who see or hear
the cry goes up

Gun Control: Ensuring tigers can freely maul people to death

Mon, 02/10/2014 - 12:28

I love tigers.  I think they are beautiful and majestic creatures.  I would not willingly hunt them.  But that is not to say that I wouldn’t shoot one to death while it was trying to maul my face off for a snack.

Unfortunately for Indians that is not an option.  India’s draconian gun laws bars gun ownership to nearly all of the 1.2 Billion residents of the country.

The Arms Act of 1959 and the Arms Rules 1962 of India prohibits the sale, manufacture, possession, acquisition, import, export and transport of firearms and ammunition unless under a license and is a stringent process.

Who get’s these licenses?  The firearms criteria in India is stringent; applicable for a person, especially having a government position who faces immediate danger or threats, family members of such people and a person whose occupation by nature involves open threats and danger. Exceptions are, defense officers who are allowed to keep firearms without licenses under the Defense Service rule until they complete their service and for professional shooters.

So basically, those who are connected are allowed to defend themselves, the rest of the population are on their own.

Which brings us to the ironically named town of Lucknow, India.

Lucknow is anything but lucky as a tigress

How not to be a jackass with a gun

Mon, 02/10/2014 - 11:48

Not knowing a gun is loaded is not an accident.

It’s negligence.

Engaging in a shouting match with some mouth breathing gun control zealot does not help anyone EXCEPT the gun control zealot.  The press will spin their drooling vitriol laced rage as being “passionate about protecting children” while spinning you, the gun owner, as a person on the brink of murder.

The following video discusses a few things to keep in mind to avoid being a jackass with a gun.

Enjoy.

It’s pretty simple folks.  Be safe and don’t lower yourself to the rambling idiocy of the opposition.

Don’t provide ammo for them make caricatures of gun owners.

This Flag Dips To No Earthly King

Fri, 02/07/2014 - 15:21

America.

We were a country with some balls back in the day.

With the beginning of the Winter Olympics I am reminded of a pair of Americans back in 1908.

Ralph Rose was the United States Flag Bearer for the 1908 Summer Olympic Games held in London, England.  In the opening ceremonies Rose walked by the royal box and refused to dip the Stars and Stripes to King-Emperor Edward VII.

US Olympic Team Captain Martin Sheridan upon being questioned about Rose’s refusal simply said: “This flag dips to no earthly king.”

America.

You may be surprised that it wasn’t until Flag Day, June 14th, 1923 that there was any codified government guideline to the flag.  Hence, Rose and Sheridan were ahead of their time and both symbolized the patriotic and religious natures of Americans.

Imagine if you will, what would happen if such a similar act of patriotism and faith were to occur today?

With a President who cannot wait to kow tow to every foreign dignitary, to a media who mocks any principle based off of Christianity (yet will gloss over any barbarism of Islam), and to a government who shreds through the First Amendment when it comes to Christianity yet bends over backwards to placate other religions; these 2 men would still be heroes to true Americ

Olympic Charter a lie for many countries

Fri, 02/07/2014 - 11:25

“The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.” –Olympic Charter

The practice of sport is a human right.  Interesting.  Because I am pretty sure that Shooting is a sport and even has a number of Olympic events.  Yet this HUMAN RIGHT is denied a great number of people around the world.  One need look no further than the past 2 summer Olympic venues.

In the UK, handgun suppression for law abiding citizens is absolute and for 16 years was outlawed for even Olympian shooters.  Finally, in 2012, 27 year old barmaid Georgina Geikie will be the first to compete in the Olympic cartridge pistol event since 1996.

Of course, if she wanted to practice she still had to LEAVE the COUNTRY and train in Switzerland.

There were no exceptions: an up-and-comer like Geikie and a veteran like Mick Gault, who was awarded the Order of the British Empire as one of the most successful British competitors of any sport, both kept their guns in Switzerland and traveled there on weeke

Justice Scalia reaffirms the need for the 2nd Amendment: “In times of war, laws fall silent”

Wed, 02/05/2014 - 11:51

Discussing cases with students at the University of Hawaii’s Law School, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia found himself questioned with the High Court’s ruling back in 1944 that upheld the convictions of Gordon Hirabayashi and Fred Korematsu for failing to voluntarily give up their freedom and report to an internment camp without due process.

Scalia’s response to the Court’s decision was this:

“Well, of course, Korematsu (court decision) was wrong. And I think we have repudiated in a later case. But you are kidding yourself if you think the same thing will not happen again.”

He then went on to quote Cicero by saying:

“ inter arma silent leges” (translation: In times of War, laws fall silent)

This tyrannical oppression of Americans of Japanese decent during World War II is not the only time that Justice Scalia has spoken on the dangers of usurping peoples rights under the auspices of national security during times of war.  In 2004, Scalia decried the decision of Hamdi v Rumsfeld which upheld the detention of a U.S. citizen as an enemy combatant, without charge or suspension of the habeas corpus.

Mass. Task Force lays out 44 ways the Legislature should infringe on your gun rights

Tue, 02/04/2014 - 11:52

After the shooting at Sandy Hook, a state committee in Massachusetts was charged with devising ways to end gun violence.

We are a nation who loves to think everything is coded so you can go ahead and read that as “devising ways to pass acceptable gun control by exploiting the tragedy of dead children.”

I’ll give Massachusetts politicians this though, they at least went through the process of giving it some thought, unlike Gov. Cuomo of New York who violated his states own prohibitions in order to jam the SAFE Act down the throats of New Yorkers in the dead of night.

So what did this “task force” come up with?  While not completely erasing what’s left of the 2nd Amendment in Massachusetts, as a whole the recommendations are just gun control masquerading as something “new”.

The major points:

– The Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association should work with the Massachusetts Gun Control Advisory Board to develop a set of factors determining what constitutes a suitable person for gun ownership and licensure.

Maybe I’m just arguing semantics, but I’m pretty sure being an AMERICAN is enough to constitute being suitable.  Now, if you want to develop a set of factors de

Drug Freedom Clearing The Road For Gun Freedom?

Mon, 02/03/2014 - 12:25

It’s funny how things work out.

A lot of puns and humor were tossed at the two Super Bowl teams this year as both come from states that have legalized marijuana.

As a gun rights advocate I am rather curious as to how the whole drug thing will shake out because the federal government is pretty clear that drugs that they deem illegal cannot be allowed by states.  The states of Washington and Colorado disagree.

If the Federal Government blinks it will be the blink heard round the world because it will set a precedent in where a state can willfully and overtly ignore Federal Laws in order to conduct state business as an autonomous sovereignty.

As a Libertarian I love this.  Please do not take that as me condoning or endorsing the use of heretofore illicit drugs, but if a state wants to pass a law saying that a State’s right to run itself, so long as it doesn’t run afoul of the Bill of Rights, is wholly dependent on the state and its citizens, I am all for it.

Now, what does this have to do with guns?

In case you were not aware there are currently 7 states that have passed Firearm Freedom Acts which basically say that the Federal Government has no say in the firearm manufacturing or sales of firearms that are made and sta

Peaceful Rebellion Catching Fire In Connecticut

Fri, 01/31/2014 - 10:22

Gun control zealots, empowered from feeding off the blood of young children, seized their moment to punish the law abiding citizens of Connecticut last year and passed pointless gun control legislation that did nothing to prevent gun violence.

Rather, these ghouls who exploit tragedy and the death of young children for their own ends, hoisted upon the innocent, draconian measures that sought to strip the rights from citizens in order to make them subjects and more easier to control.

I must admit, I had underestimated the people of the Constitution State, because rather than just bending over and taking it they have risen up in quiet rebellion against this tyranny and have simply said: “No.”

The legislation of citizen control that was passed last year in Hartford required that citizens who owned sporting rifles or any magazine that held more than 10 rounds (aka MOST magazines), must have those items registered with the state.  Of course, the ONLY reason to have these items registered is so that the state has an easier time in confiscating them when they decide it is tenable to do so.

How does registration stop a mass shooter?  It doesn’t.  Ergo, gun control isn’t about stopping crime, it&#821

Another bit of oppression falls in Colorado. Open Carry Ban in Castle Rock Repealed

Wed, 01/29/2014 - 14:24

Perhaps Colorado, as a whole, has seen the error of its ways.

I mean, Colorado…come on…remember your roots and forget all about the gun hating Californian transplants you have had to suffer over the years.

Finally, and fortunately, I think Colorado is remembering who it is.

On top of the recalls and resignations, individual towns are taking back their rights and Castle Rock was not to be denied a moment longer.

The State of Colorado recognizes the right to open carry firearms.  Unfortunately, it has not pass legislation that would pre-empt any jurisdiction from usurping the rights of its citizens so there are pockets of tyranny in Colorado, most notably in Denver.

But that doesn’t mean that tyranny must remain as the town of Castle Rock, just a few miles south of the mile high city, has finally cast off the shackles of infringement and repealed the ban.

Though that is not to say it was an easy win.

The Rocky Mountain Gun Owners spearheaded the drive for the repeal and after 4 hours of testimony in front of the city council and an hour long deliberation by the council the motion to repeal the ban was passed by a vote of 4-3.

I hope the citizens of Castle Rock and RMGO remember the 3 council members who v

Gabby Giffords Wages War on the Constitution…Gets Warship Named After Her…huh?

Wed, 01/29/2014 - 13:11

Somehow this little tidbit had passed under my radar when it was first released but Gabrielle Giffords, controller and limiter of American Liberty is having an Independence Class littoral combat ship named after her.

Previously it was just a hypothetical name as the Navy had only planned to build 2 ships of that class, the lead ship Independence and the second ship Coronado.  But with the near completion of the Coronado the Navy has announced plans to build an additional 10 Independence class ships with the 5th being named the USS Gabrielle Giffords.

The irony that a ship in a class called Independence would be named after a woman who is making it her life’s work to deny the ability of regular American citizens to be independent of government control is laughable.

Do I have a problem with politicians having ships named after them?  No.  But let’s not fool ourselves into thinking that Giffords deserves any similar treatment to John F. Kennedy, Teddy Roosevelt or Ronald Reagan.

She is a relatively no-name congresswoman who got shot in the face and then decided to wage a campaign against the 2nd Amendment.  If she had decided to become champion of gun rights after the shooting I doubt the powers that be would be naming a warship after her, nor would I be advocating for it to do so.  But th

Even when in my favor I reject the idea of “special” citizens – Gun Rights belong to all free Americans

Tue, 01/28/2014 - 12:48

As you have read in my past articles on NY’s SAFE Act, not only do I have a problem with nonsensical rights denying gun control, but I have as big if not bigger problem with the EXCEPTIONS to the laws that are given to politicians, the rich, the powerful and the police.

Since I am not a raging hypocrite like my opponents I therefore will not support or encourage legislation that would make one class of people “more worthy” of a right than another.

In Iowa, a bill has been proposed that will allow active duty military personnel to buy handguns without going through the arduous and Constitutionally unnecessary process of acquiring a permit.

An Iowa house subcommittee passed the bill unanimously and now it heads to the House’s Veterans Affairs Committee.

Currently in Iowa, atop the standard federal background check you need to meet “certain requirements” and PAY A FEE annually in order to get a PERMIT just to ATTEMPT to buy a handgun.

When exactly does the infringement meter break down due to being overwhelmed with bull excrement?

This sick and twisted process should be cast aside for ALL Iowans because it is a gross miscarriage of a Constitutional right.  I mean, you don’t even need to show ID to vote but in Iowa you nee

Son saves father’s life with literal shot in the dark

Mon, 01/27/2014 - 13:06

In Van Zandt County Texas, east of Dallas, a son is being hailed a hero for saving his father’s life.

Weldom Atherton was awoken in the middle of the night as he heard a prowler rummaging through his property.

Weldon saw the intruder scuttle away but he got his rifle just in case he returned, which he did soon thereafter.  Weldon got up behind the thief and tapped him on the back with the rifle.

BREAK- Bad move Weldon, never get that close, you have a rifle, not a stick, shortening the distance to where the bad guy can grab it will do no good.

At this point the thief turned and took a step toward Atherton, who thought he was going to go for the gun and told the thief that if he took another step he would be shot.   The thief ran off at that point.  Atherton noticed that the thief left his truck running and went over to it to, and reached in to turn it off.

BREAK - Good intention, but with a threat still out in the night, taking your attention off a target lurking somewhere is a dangerous proposition.

While Weldon was reaching into the truck for the key the thief jumped him and there was a scuffle for the rifle which went off in the fracas.  Fortunately that shot woke up Weldon’s son Jonathan because Weldon now found himse

“Assault” Weapons a no-no for citizens but “Patrol Rifles” are a go for cops

Mon, 01/27/2014 - 11:57

I guess we are going to start the week off with some gun control hypocrisy…shocker.

The Chicago Police department, you know them; the ones who have fought against citizen’s right to keep and bear arms by claiming there will be blood in the streets, all the while having a disarmed populace being able to do nothing about all the blood running in the streets; decided to get all knee deep in hypocrisy doo doo.

Well, not only have the dug in their collective heels while innocent men, women and children are being slaughtered thanks to the success of gun control, but now they have added a dollop of hypocrisy to the bloody stew.

In response to the following billboard placed in Chicago:

The Chicago police issued a statement saying: “military style weapons belong on the battlefield and not on the street.”

I know that little quip is all the range for the gun banners but it is just as hypocritical when the politicians who are protected by these weapons say it as it is when the police who

Another WTF moment from the ATF

Fri, 01/24/2014 - 15:03

There is a trial going on in the Supreme Court that isn’t getting too much press but if nothing else it highlights the pointlessness of gun control and the ATF in general.

Abramski v United States

The facts of the case are pretty straight forward.  A Law Enforcement Officer from Virginia goes to a gun shop and buys a gun.  He then takes the gun to a Pennsylvania FFL Dealer and transfers it over to his uncle for whom the gun was for.  The officer, Mr. Abramski, picked up the gun as a gift for his uncle and followed the law about transferring ownership to a resident of another state, hence the FFL transfer and the NICS check.  The uncle had given his nephew money to purchase the gun but the act of picking it up and driving it to him was viewed by Mr. Abramski as a gift.

Everyone agrees on the above facts.

The ATF though, with their heads secured firmly in their fourth point of contact cries “STRAW MAN STRAW MAN”.

This was because on the back of the Form 4473 Mr. Abramski check the box saying that the gun was for him.

Why did he check that box?  Was he trying to be sneaky and lying?  No.  He checked the box because the Form TOLD him to check the box.

In the instructions to “Question 11 a) are you the buyer” the instru

Fri, 01/24/2014 - 14:09

Gun makers are finally saying enough is enough.  For years, gun companies have remained in the gun control heavy states that they were founded in, or they continued to deal with states that chip away at the freedom of the 2nd Amendment .

As the title goes, a number of gun makers have said enough is enough and have either moved their operations or have basically boycotted selling their wares to certain states.

Of course, this hurts gun owners and workers most, but maybe if the people get upset enough and see that jobs are hightailing out of their state they MIGHT take an interest in who is on the ballot in November.

On the 22nd of January, Smith and Wesson joined Ruger in declaring that they will no longer sell their weapons to California based directly on the folly of gun controllers who think that microstamping is in anyway effective.

The pointless requirement demands that all firearms sold in the state have a microstamp on the firing pin so that the spent casing will have an ID marker.  Now, some gun control numbskull in Sacramento probably thinks this is a GREAT idea.  He or she probably never held a gun before in their life and have no idea on how one works.

Funny thing about the firing pin…it can be replaced…EASILY  Or better yet, since criminals all ready s

Does America need to look to Mexico for a reminder of the true meaning of the 2nd Amendment?

Tue, 01/21/2014 - 11:11

The 2nd Amendment isn’t about hunting.

That is a well and established fact.

And while the 2nd Amendment is about defense it does not end there.

You see, the Right to Keep and Bear Arms goes so much further than simply defending yourself and your property.  It was enumerated in the Constitution so that the people would always have the means in which to defend their liberty and freedom from dangers both foreign AND domestic.  Namely its own government…or those who act freely with the government’s allowance.

And, despite what VP Biden would have you believe, you need a little more than granddaddy’s ole double barrel shotgun blasting warning shots to do so.

But in the US, it seems many have forgotten our roots.  That, while this country was founded on ideals, it was forged at the muzzle of a gun and the tip of a bayonet.

For those who say such acts are antiquated for these modern times one need look no further to refute that claim than to a country that BORDERS us…Mexico.

With a corrupt government that turns a blind eye to the kidnapping, torturing and murdering of its people at the hands of the drug cartels, what have the Mexican people begun to do?  Why, form their own militias of course.

In Antúnez, Mexico, citizens were tired of the governme

Racist Gun Control Laws Denied Martin Luther King Jr the Right to Defend Himself

Mon, 01/20/2014 - 10:12

The basis for gun control has always been racist in nature.  It started in the South to ensure that freed slaves wouldn’t be allowed to defend themselves.

It has expanded over the years to encompass a larger range of goals such as controlling the populace at large and centralizing power within the government; can’t have those uppity peons thinking they are citizens after all.

So it should come as no surprise that in 1956 when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr applied for a concealed weapons permit in Alabama, due to his receiving constant death threats and having his house BOMBED, he was denied.

If a man like Dr. King wasn’t “worthy” to be given a concealed weapons permit then I submit that as proof that any notion of needing to ask the government for permission before exercising a right is flawed.  If a civil rights leader who promotes non-violence and is a national figure who gets death threats constantly and has attempts made on his life does not meet the measure of gaining a CCW in a state that can arbitrarily deny him his right to keep and bear arms then the states themselves should have no say in it.

This is what oppression looks like.  This is tyranny.  This is also a successful application of gun control.

Another Activist Judge, Another Double Standard Stickin It To The 2nd Amendment

Sat, 01/18/2014 - 11:38

Judges are SUPPOSED to be like umpires or referees.

I mean that, though you may not agree with them they are consistent.  In being such they do not favor some rights more than others.

Yet once again, an activist judge has decided to toss out the will of the people on logic that would be unheard of if used with regard to the 2nd Amendment.

Commonwealth Court Judge Bernard L. McGinley, a Democrat,  has tossed out Pennsylvania’s Voter ID law because:

the law would unreasonably burden the fundamental right to vote, and the state had been unable to convincingly explain why it was necessary.”

Funny, examples of voter fraud aren’t convincing but somehow Andrew Cuomo, Barack obama and other rabid gun controllers speaking in hyperbole is convincing?

There is NO evidence that gun control has stopped or reduced gun crime.  In FACT, over the past 100 years, whenever major gun control is passed crime skyrockets until gun rights are restored in some measure.
