Spring toms and TeamWON made for a heady combination when turkey season started last March in Texas. The Writing Huntress, Britney Starr and I spent 3 glorious days scouring canyons, led by fine turkey guides from Double B Outfitters, that amassed more than 35,000 acres. Quickly, it became more than bragging rights on a tagged tom. The experience, sponsored by Benelli, brought home the importance of the camaraderie of hunting camp and the teamwork involved in hunting.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nicknamed Syd Vicious by all who know her, Sydney Carson proved why Friday at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior Cup in winning the women’s skeet gold medal. Carson highlighted a banner day for the USA Shooting Team that included four medals and six individual finalists.

Upland hunting is often looked upon as a genteel activity. In the days of old, hunters were seen wearing tweed jackets and tailored brush pants. They shot fine double-barrel shotguns and worked over well-trained and groomed pointing dogs. This upland hunter paid close attention to appearance whether he had money to spend, as he often did, or not. But recently a discussion amongst upland hunters on whether or not an attractive female hunter should wear makeup on a grouse hunt revealed a compelling divide over representations of women hunters in the field. What does a woman upland hunter look like? Does she wear makeup? Why and why not?
