The Truth About Guns

Winchester White Box ammo is a golden oldie. It’s a Wal-Mart discount staple that (back in the good old days) you could always pick up for cheap. But is it any good outside of the range? And, especially now that the market has changed and more and more people are carrying small, short-barreled pocket pistols, is the venerable WWB effective from a 3″-barrel 9mm pistol?  The answers may surprise you. They sure surprised us.

Iowa Senate candidate Joni Ernst garnered some attention with her “Squeal” campaign commercial touting her political pork-cutting bona fides by pointing out that she grew up castrating hogs on an Iowa farm. Her latest less cringe-inducing promo features her riding a Harley, hints that she packs heat and shows her perforating some paper at an indoor range while promising she’ll “unload” on ObamaCare. Let’s just hope her demonstration of firearms proficiency portends better things than formerly A-rated Joe Manchin’s did.

Recently we published ShootingTheBull410′s test of the North American Arms Black Widow mini-revolver firing Gold Dots and the results were surprisingly good. Now he puts the same pocket pistol to the test with Hornady’s Critical Defense, with its vaunted (or at least highly marketed) anti-clogging polymer tip. Hornady brags that the 22 Magnum version of Critical Defense offers “terminal ballistics comparable to the .380 Auto Critical Defense load.”  Consider the gauntlet thrown down — that sounds like something that can be tested.
