NRA Sues New York Governor Cuomo & New York
Love it or hate it—The Shooter's Log has certainly received comments on both sides—the NRA is fighting hard for the Second Amendment and our rights. Recently, The Shooter's Log reported on moves by certain banking institutions to limit or outright refuse to do business with manufacturers and businesses within the firearms community. Following that, we ran Cuomo Urges (Threatens) Banks Against Doing Business With 2A Companies. Now, the NRA is fighting back by filing suit in district court.
Review: Springfield 911 .380 ACP
Springfield Armory has recently introduced one of the neatest, most compact, and useful .380 ACP handguns in the past decade. That is a bold statement, but this is a fine handgun sure to be enjoyed by many shooters. I normally include a spec sheet at the end of the report, but the size of the 911 is among the things that are most interesting, so I will discuss size first.

Review: Blackhawk! Omnivore Holster
Building on the success and tradition of the Serpa holster, Blackhawk has another holster set to outshine competition due to its innovative design and versatility. The Omnivore will securely fit dozens of newer model handguns without adjustment, but it has a catch. Read the review to learn more about the Omnivore.
Review: Hudson H9 9mm — A Striker Fired 1911?
The Hudson H9 is a modern handgun that the company has called an ideal marriage between the 1911 pistol and striker fired handguns. There is some relevance to this claim, but the author would disagree, or at least restate the manufacturer's claim. However, in the end, it is not claim but the performance that is the measure of a handgun.
72 Ways to End up on the Terrorist Watchlist
Come and Take It!, Molon Labe!, From My Cold Dead Hands! We have all heard the phrases and likely repeated many of them at one time or another, in or out of context to the Second Amendment and our rights. After a friend received a call the other day from the FBI due to a Facebook post, my interest was piqued and the search began. Quickly, it became apparent just how easy it is (or was) to get yourself put on a watchlist.
Oliver North Set to Become Next NRA President
The National Rifle Association (NRA) has announced that retired Marine Corps Lt. Col. Oliver North will become the next president of the association “within a few weeks.” The news stunned some in that Pete Brownell (abruptly) decided not to run for a second term, Both the NRA's first and second vice presidents were also unable to take the position, but none of that dampened the enthusiasm for North.
Video: Atmospherics and Ballistics for Long-Range Shooting
Cheaper Than Dirt!, as well as the National Shooting Sports Foundation and others, believe it is important to promote safe, comfortable, and proper shooting techniques to customers. This video focuses on the importance of understanding the effects of atmospherics on a projectile when calculating an accurate firing solution for long-range accuracy.
ALERT! FREE “I Stand with the NRA Foundation Sticker” for YETI Coolers
Last week, The Shooter's Log, covered the reaction from firearm owners and supporters of the Second Amendment to YETI's decision to no longer support the NRA. Disgruntled patrons expressed their ire in a number of ways including blowing up YETI products with Tannerite, burning them, placing toilet seats and on them (and doing what naturally comes next), and destroying and defiling them in several other creative ways. However, Marion Hammer, USF Executive Director and NRA Past President, wants you to keep and express your opinion in a completely different way. After all, you have already spent the money and YETI and has already reaped the profits. Here is Ms. Hammer's message.
Throwback Thursday — Decoding Shotshell Markings to Determine Powder Charge
Did you ever wonder how hard a shotshell will hit—both you and the target? Some boxes are marked "low recoil" but there is another way to tell. It is printed on most boxes of shotshells, but few people know how to find it or what it means. Do you?
Top Cops Opposing Concealed Carry — Did yours make the list?
During a recent meeting of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, more than a few of Chiefs of Police and Sheriffs showed their true colors when they signed on to a letter which expressed their opposition to H.R. 38/S. 446 – Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017. The letter was adopted by 473 officials across the nation.
Cuomo Urges (Threatens) Banks Against Doing Business With 2A Companies
It is one thing to have an opinion as an elected official and espouse an opinion. It is quite another to make a veiled threat against due to your political position or influence. However, that is exactly what many believe Andrew Cuomo, previous governor of New York, crossed the line when he “urged” banks and insurance companies—some would say threatened—repercussions to their reputations if they continued doing business with firearm and ammunition manufacturers. One of those ammunition manufacturers has 'fired' back.
Range Report: Custom Colt Government Model Stainless
Why is the 1911 not only popular but at the top of the heap? Simple. The human engineering behind the pistol has never been bested. The straight to the rear trigger compression, a low bore axis that limits muzzle flip, and excellent hand fit make for a fast and sure handling handgun. The controls, including the slide lock, magazine release, and safety, are within reach without shifting the firing grip. What else could you ask for?

Review: Marlin’s Big Lever Action and the .444 Cartridge
The .444 Marlin is basically a lengthened .44 Magnum revolver cartridge. However, the .444 Marlin is far more powerful than the .44 Magnum. While the .44 Magnum is a fine brush gun, and well suited for hog hunting at moderate range, the .444 Marlin can be a true big-game rifle. The .444 hasn’t replaced the .30-30, but it has enjoyed some popularity with the lever-action crowd. The introduction of the Marlin .45-70 rifle—or reintroduction, as it may be called—cut into the .444’s popularity considerably.
Farewell To the Browning Hi-Power
FN recently announced the Browning Hi Power pistol is being discontinued from manufacture. In the perfect handgunning world, all pistols would have the mix of history, performance, and collector interest of the Fabrique Nationale Hi Power. While John Moses Browning died in his office in Belgium before the final work was completed, that would not stop his vision from its place in history.

Kel-Tec has discovered a potential issue with the Sub-2000 rifle. Although it only affects a limited number of firearms, all sub-2000 rifle owners are advised to stop use until they can determine whether their firearm is affected and/or repaired. Here is the full recall notice from Kel-Tec.
Review: Springfield M1A — When a .223 Just Won’t Do
Some time ago, I began upgrading my on duty gear by a great degree. During the war on terror, and the war on drugs, peace officers often faced heavily-armed felons willing to shoot it out with peace officers. Working in a rural environment, where every household it seemed had a scope-mounted rifle, also colored my […]

Shooting 101: Picking a Stance
Fast and accurate shooting with a handgun requires a stable shooting stance. The stance must allow for proper sight alignment, mobility, and recoil management. There are a number of stances that can do that, but there’s no “one-size-fits-all” solution—or is there? This article delves into the pros and cons of popular shooting stances and ends with a video of World Champion Pistol Shooter Doug Koenig giving you his take on the best stance for handguns.
