Another Magazine Ban, Another FPC Lawsuit

Fri, 12/20/2024 - 12:30

In case you haven’t noticed, the Firearms Policy Coalition is currently litigating more Second Amendment-related lawsuits than just about all of the other gun-rights groups combined. That’s because the organization’s overall strategy is focused on restoring the right to keep and bear arms by having immoral laws struck down in the courts.

The FPC’s latest target is our nation’s capital—specifically Washington, D.C.’s ban on firearms magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. The case, Wehr-Darroca v.

Fri, 12/20/2024 - 10:30

For decades, shooting forums have been locked in friendly (and sometimes not-so-friendly) banter over which round reigns supreme.

Is it the hard-hitting, fast-flying 10mm that commands respect with its superior ballistics?

Or does the tried-and-true .45 ACP, with its hefty slug and storied history, still hold the crown?

Understanding the Ballistics: 10mm vs .45 ACP

When comparing the 10mm and .45 ACP for self-defense, it’s essential to delve into the ballistics of each caliber.

Fri, 12/20/2024 - 08:30

How on earth does a 2-year-old get a hold of a loaded gun? Ask 18-year-old Andrew Sanchez of Fresno, California, whose firearm somehow ended up in the hands of a child, resulting in the death of a 22-year-old mother.

Sanchez was arrested inside the couple’s apartment after the toddler discharged the unsecured firearm, fatally wounding his mother, Jessinya Mina, with a single 9mm round to the upper body. Sanchez and Mina were reportedly relaxing in bed on the evening of Friday, December 6 when a “preventable” tragedy took place, according to the Fresno Police Department.

Survey: Americans Support Judges, Politicians Who Follow The Second Amendment

Fri, 12/20/2024 - 06:30

Results of a brand-new McGlothlin & Associates survey indicate that the American public favors judges who strictly follow the Second Amendment and politicians who defend the right to keep and bear arms.

The national survey, conducted the week of December 11 and commissioned by the Second Amendment Foundation, also revealed that the majority of Americans believe incoming President Donald Trump and a Republican majority in Congress will better protect Second Amendment rights than Democrats would have if they had been victorious.

Shell Tech Makes A Case For Better Ammo

Thu, 12/19/2024 - 14:30

Brass cartridge cases have been the traditional material used in ammunition since the beginning. Partly because it was inexpensive and easy to form. Then along comes a company like Shell Tech, who makes a totally different cartridge case that completely outperforms brass in so many ways you might question why you are still using brass all together. The FBI uses Shell Tech 5.56 NATO ammo, and there are several special forces teams overseas that have made the switch to Shell Tech ammunition.

Thu, 12/19/2024 - 08:30

The Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) has released the latest in its series of annual reports on trends in concealed carry permits in America.

The report, Concealed Carry Permit Holders Across the United States: 2024 (Nov. 29, 2024), by Dr. John Lott, Jr,. Carlisle E. Moody, and Rujun Wang, looked at the trends accompanying the exponential growth in carry permits. Michigan Senate Bans “Ghost Guns”

Wed, 12/18/2024 - 10:30

First of all, there is no such thing as a “ghost gun.” This is a made-up term by the anti-Second Amendment lobby used to create a negative stigma around homemade firearms, which have been a deeply rooted tradition throughout American history dating back to the founding. These firearms have never carried with them any requirement for serialization and have only been referred to as “ghost guns” in recent years by leftists looking to disarm law-abiding Americans.

The Michigan Senate, unconcerned with the Constitution or the rights of its citizens, approved Senate Bills 1149 and 1150 along party lines, 20-15, on December 12.

Dems Play To Anti-Gun Base With Ultimate Political Grandstanding Ploy

Wed, 12/18/2024 - 06:30

It’s no secret that politicians spend much time playing to their base to ensure future funding for their pet projects. Sometimes, they’ll even make a big deal about their goals, even when they know they have a slim chance of coming to fruition.

Such is the case with gun-ban advocates in the U.S. House of Representatives, who on Monday staged a major dog-and-pony show for anyone who would watch them pretend that they might be able to get significant gun control measures passed in the upcoming Congress.

NBC Falsely Claims Magazine Disconnects Improve Safety of Handguns

Tue, 12/17/2024 - 14:30

Around 11 people are killed each year because their handguns lacked a magazine disconnect, according to a massive 4,600-word special report by NBC News, which was released Friday.

The story’s title tells you all you need to know about the content: “A simple device could help curb accidental gun deaths, but most firearms don’t have it.”

“Since 2000, at least 277 people have been killed in gun accidents in which the shooter believed the weapon was unloaded because the magazine had been dislodged or removed, an NBC News investigation found.

Brooklyn DA Declines to Prosecute Bus Driver in Self-Defense Case

Tue, 12/17/2024 - 12:30

The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office has decided not to pursue charges against Ian Bascombe, a 58-year-old MTA bus driver, following a violent altercation aboard a Brooklyn bus, Dec. 13. This decision comes in the wake of the recent acquittal of Daniel Penny, a former Marine, in a widely publicized subway choking case that should’ve never been brought to trial, but proved even New York City juries can recognize people have a right to defend themselves.

Bascombe was initially arrested on charges of assault and weapon possession after stabbing Quentin Branch, 33, in the head and leg during the altercation.

Florida 13-Year-Old Sells A Gun To 19-Year-Old Then Fatally Shoots Him

Tue, 12/17/2024 - 08:30

A 14-year-old Florida teen warming the bench in a juvenile detention facility has picked up a second-degree murder charge in connection with his 2023 fatal shooting of a 19-year-old, according to deputies. As if not depressing enough to question the fate of humanity, with kids this young acting this violently, the incident took place during a gun sale gone wrong.

It has been almost a year since the then-13-year-old runaway set up a meeting with 19-year-old Griffin Chase Smith at a Dollar General in Ocala, intending to sell him a Glock.

TSA on Pace to Catch Fewer Firearms at Airport Checkpoints in 2024

Tue, 12/17/2024 - 06:30

The TSA is on track to discover fewer firearms at airport checkpoints in 2024 compared to last year, despite record-high passenger volumes. According to figures reported by American Rifleman, TSA intercepted 5,028 firearms during the first nine months of 2024, a slight decline from the 5,073 caught during the same period in 2023.

The downward trend in firearm detections surprised some experts who believed as more states recognized Constitutional Carry laws, more gun owners would forget to remove firearms from carry-on bags or even forget they were carrying them when going through checkpoints.

If you like military surplus weaponry, either as a shooter or a collector, then you’re probably familiar with the Civilian Marksmanship Program(CMP). In addition to promoting marksmanship and hosting the prestigious Camp Perry service rifle shoots, the CMP also runs the program where U.S. citizens can get surplus M1 Garands, 1911s and occasionally other rifles and gear. While that can be done through the mail, CMP also maintains three physical store locations. If you’re anywhere in the area of one, it’s worth a stop in.

Gun Review – Cimarron ’62 Pocket Navy Conversion

Mon, 12/16/2024 - 10:30

Gun shows aren’t always bad. Most of the time, the modern gun show is terrible. It’s a waste of time, and it’s occupied by overpriced guns trying to draw in impulse purchasers. Not to mention piles of Chinesium, crappy knives and the sound of a stun gun every 45 seconds. Beef jerky tends to be the redeeming factor of the modern gun show. However, there are gems amongst the rabble, and one gem I found was the Cimarron 1862 Pocket Navy Conversion.

The Cimarron ’62 Pocket Navy Conversion was a gem amongst gun show finds.

While Some Clamor for More Gun Laws, Judges Aren’t Enforcing Existing Laws

Mon, 12/16/2024 - 08:30

The battle against gun control activists who proclaim ad nauseum that more Second Amendment restrictions on law-abiding Americans is the only answer to combatting crime never ceases. This is despite the fact, played out repeatedly in the real world, that criminals don’t follow laws.

On the other hand, the firearm industry as a whole – and frontline firearm retailers specifically – have longstanding partnerships with law enforcement organizations and federal agencies to educate the public on the stiff penalties and consequences facing them should they break laws regarding firearm purchasing and possession.
