ATF Rolls Back Zero-Tolerance Policy For Gun Dealer Paperwork Errors

Tue, 01/21/2025 - 09:17

Just days before leaving office on January 20, the Biden Administration quietly reversed its harmful “zero-tolerance” policy of revoking federal firearms licenses from gun dealers for minor paperwork errors.

According to a report from Foxnews.com, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives reversed the rule following a lawsuit filed by a Texas firearms retailer. That FFL holder, Michael Cargill, argued that the policy hindered the right to own firearms.

The lawsuit was filed with backing from the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) and America First Legal (AFL).

Donald Trump Sworn In as 47th President

Mon, 01/20/2025 - 11:12

Donald Trump was sworn in just moments ago at noon, Jan. 20, 2025, as the 47th president of the United States, marking the start of a new chapter in American politics. Gun owners and Second Amendment advocates are optimistic under the new leadership that policies that prioritize firearms ownership rights and enhance self-defense protections will become the norm, not the exception. During his campaign, Trump pledged to champion national concealed carry reciprocity and protect the firearm industry from overreach.

Be Prepared: What To Put in a Go Bag

Mon, 01/20/2025 - 10:30

When I think of a go bag, I’m thinking of the bag I grab every day, whether to the local coffee shop to work or a short two- to three-day work trip.

My go bag is not packed out to go all Red Dawn during a foreign invasion but to support my daily needs with a few extras to support any unexpected emergencies.

Why don’t I have a PCC (pistol-caliber carbine) or backpack gun?

Blue State AGs Back ATF ‘Final Rules’ Overreach

Mon, 01/20/2025 - 07:50

While most gun owners likely view the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) rulemaking as an overreach into creating laws rather than enforcing them—the agency’s primary role—some district attorneys from blue states have come together to support a few of these overreaches.

According to an ABC News report, 17 state attorneys general, led by Democrat New Jersey AG Matt Platkin,  announced on January 16 their intention to defend ATF final rules that redefine forced reset triggers as machine guns and also redefined who is “engaged in the business” of selling guns, despite President Trump taking office soon.

S&W’s “New” 1854 Lever Rifle: Old Is New Again!

Sun, 01/19/2025 - 16:33

The lever action rifle has a long and storied history. Having its origins in the Volcanic pistol of 1854, the action type has become as much a part of Americana – especially the “Old West” – as has apple pie. Who doesn’t remember John Wayne, atop his horse, twirl-cocking his Winchester as he scowls at the bad guys? Or, how about Chuck Connor’s popular late-’50s TV show “The Rifleman”? That opening footage under the credits, with him firing and emptying his magazine tube as fast as he could work the lever got me (and several thousand other youngsters) hooked on the gun.

Wisconsin Governor Creates Office Of Gun Irony

Sun, 01/19/2025 - 12:20

As ironic news stories go, this one is hard to beat.

In September 2023, the Biden Administration rolled out a new government bureaucracy called the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. The office, touted as a solution to the problem of “gun violence,” was actually designed to cater to special-interest gun control supporters and used taxpayer funds to erode the rights protected under the U.S. Constitution.

Of course, this farce of a federal office’s name is even based on a core fallacy that when criminals use lawfully produced, legally sold firearms for illegal means, what results is “gun violence,” not criminal violence.

Lawmakers Introduce Measure Outlawing Federal Gun Registry

Sat, 01/18/2025 - 12:18

The threat of gun registration has long been a concern for U.S. gun owners, and for a very good reason: registration always leads to confiscation. Now, two U.S. lawmakers have introduced legislation to prevent any potential gun registration schemes in the future.

On January 16, U.S. Sen. Jim Risch, R-Idaho, and Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas, introduced the “No Retaining Every Gun In a System that Restricts Your (REGISTRY) Rights Act.” Although its name is somewhat awkward, this legislation is commendable as it would prevent the U.S.

Trump Owes It to Gun Owners to Eliminate the ATF

Fri, 01/17/2025 - 11:30

President Donald Trump’s election victory was made possible by millions of gun owners who are still angry about the treatment they received from Joe Biden and his antigun ilk.

Biden and whoever was actually calling the shots targeted legitimate gun owners and gun dealers like it was cool – like it was a game. Biden even allowed these illegitimate forces to establish an antigun office right inside his White House.

The United States Supreme Court, Does It Matter?

Fri, 01/17/2025 - 09:30

On January 13, the United States Supreme Court declined to hear two Second Amendment-related cases, the first being a challenge to Delaware’s “assault weapons” and standard-capacity magazine ban and the second covering Maryland handgun licensing requirements. As I intend to be critical of the High Court, I offer in fairness to concede that its previously issued rulings that should have been considered by state legislation, especially in the case of Delaware, but were not. I understand the monotony of redundant legal challenges the justices have already ruled upon.

PA Gun Show Bill Requires IDs, Which Must Be Given To State On Request

Fri, 01/17/2025 - 08:30

An anti-gun measure introduced in the Pennsylvania legislature by a Democrat lawmaker from Philadelphia is—like most anti-gun legislation—simply a solution in search of a problem.

Pennsylvania Rep. Amen Brown introduced former HB 1563 in the state House of Representatives on January 9. This measure requires anyone attending a gun show in the state to present identification. The gun show owner must keep a copy of the ID for five years and provide it to the state attorney general, any county prosecutor or any municipal police department upon request, with no limitations on the reason.

Senators Introduce Bill to Stop ATF Overreach on Firearm Imports

Fri, 01/17/2025 - 06:30

U.S. Senators Roger Marshall (R-KS) and Jim Risch (R-ID), along with a coalition of pro-Second Amendment lawmakers, have introduced the Sporting Firearms Access Act, a bill designed to prevent the ATF from arbitrarily blocking the import of firearms and ammunition into the United States. The legislation seeks to provide clarity to the “sporting purposes” test used by the ATF to regulate imports under the Gun Control Act of 1968.

The current ambiguity in the law allows the ATF to subjectively determine whether a firearm or ammunition qualifies for importation.

Thu, 01/16/2025 - 13:30

A half-score of years ago, Illinois’ most aggressive gun rights group Guns Save Life a lawsuit challenging Cook County’s (then) new gun and ammunition tax. Yet, Cook County officials have told us in recent days they have no intention of ceasing collection of these (unconstitutional) taxes. Welcome to the lawless Windy City.

Texas Judge Rules Pot User Still Has 2A Rights

Sun, 01/05/2025 - 06:30

In the ongoing battle over cannabis use and gun ownership, a Texas district judge recently ruled that smoking marijuana does not automatically negate a person’s Second Amendment-protected right to keep and bear arms.

One portion of the Gun Control Act of 1968 makes it illegal for anyone using marijuana or other banned narcotics to purchase or own a firearm. In fact, the form used by the National Instant Background Check (NICS) system specifically asks purchasers if they use marijuana or other illegal controlled substances.
