The Truth About Guns

NY Congresswoman Seeks to Outlaw Civilian Body Armor
In more anti-everything wackiness from the Empire State, New York Democratic Congresswoman Grace Meng apparently wants to make it easier for criminals to shoot you. Meng has reintroduced legislation – for the third time – that would ban civilian body armor if it can defeat rifle ammunition.
Meng’s bill, H.R. 3247, which is titled the “Aaron Salter, Jr., Responsible Body Armor Possession Act,” would ban the “purchase, ownership, or possession of enhanced body armor by civilians.”
The bill defines enhanced body armor as having the ballistic resistance that meets or exceeds Level III standards as defined by the National Institute of Justice.

Reformer Victory in NRA Election Doesn’t Mean The Job Is Done
A few days ago, the NRA had a change in leadership. With Executive VP Wayne LaPierre resigning from the organization amid scandal and resulting court turmoil, the top seat in the organization along with several others was up for election. The EVP slot went to Doug Hamlin, who previously ran NRA Publications. The first and second VP positions (below the EVP) also went to reformers.
This obviously leaves the organization in a position to fix itself, focus better on the gun rights and training missions and perhaps even avoid a court-appointed monitor.
GOP Senators Challenge Biden Administration’s ATF Rule on Gun Sales
Republican Senators are pushing back against the Biden administration rule that broadens the definition of who must register as a federal firearms dealer, arguing it imposes unconstitutional restrictions on gun sales.
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) joined Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) in introducing a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to overturn the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) rule, which they claim effectively enstates universal background checks. Grassley accused the ATF of overreach, saying, “The Biden administration’s ATF is making a brazen attempt to skirt Congress and the Constitution.
Potential Sale of U.S. Ammo Maker Sparks National-Security Concerns
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the proposed $1.91 billion sale of Minnesota-based Vista Outdoor’s ammunition business to Czech company Czechoslovak Group (CSG) has sparked national-security concerns among U.S. lawmakers. Vista is the owner of multiple ammunition companies such as Federal, Remington and CCI and highlights worries about allowing foreign control in a critical industry during global arms shortages.
Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Senator J.D. Vance (R., Ohio) have urged the Treasury Department to block the sale, citing alleged ties between CSG and China and Russia.
Olight Releases the Osight Rechargeable Red Dot Sight
Olight is best known for flashlights of all sorts, although they do have a line of knives and tools also. If you’ve been in the online gun community for more than a minute, you’ll know their lights are a bit controversial due to a light exploding a number of years back. It was more likely than not a CR123A battery issue rather than a light issue, but the internet never lets facts get in the way of a good meme, or lets a bad reputation die.

Federal Judge Blocks Biden Administration’s Gun Show Background Check Rule in Texas
A federal judge has blocked the Biden administration from enforcing a new rule that would require all firearms sellers to run background checks on buyers at gun shows or other places outside brick-and-mortar stores in Texas. The rule aims to close a loophole allowing unlicensed sellers to sell firearms without background checks.
U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, issued the ruling last Friday, preventing the federal government from implementing the rule in Texas and for several gun-rights groups, including Gun Owners of America (GOA).
Course Review: John Murphy / FPF Training’s ‘Street Encounter Skills and Tactics’
Chicago has an armed robbery and carjacking problem. We all know that.
“But I don’t live in that urban hellscape known as Chicago, so I don’t have to worry about that so much,” most readers might say.
That mental denial response has no survival value. Bigger cities see more bad guys, but they work in every locale. And why not? Many see little worry of arrest, prosecution or incarceration in the Land of Lincoln for committing serious crimes.
NRA Reform Was the Winner in Dallas, Will It Translate to a Win for Members, Gun Owners?
After years of turmoil and the resignation of longtime Executive Vice President Wayne LaPIerre, the NRA appears to be charting a new course after electing reform candidates to three of its top four leadership positions. During a board meeting on Monday, Doug Hamlin, who previously ran NRA publications, was elected Executive Vice President and CEO, succeeding LaPierre, who resigned amid corruption allegations.
Hamlin’s victory over Ronnie Barrett in a 35-to-31 vote signifies a shift towards greater transparency and improved financial stewardship.
What Sci-fi Guns Would Actually Be Useful In The Real World?
I’m big on guns for personal defense, but at the same time, I’m not a big fan of killing people. That may sound contradictory, as shooting someone to defend yourself can easily (and often does) involve death. But, we have to keep in mind that the goal of a legitimate defensive shoot isn’t to kill. The goal is to incapacitate, and hopefully cause them to stop what they’re doing (trying to kill you or someone else) before they’re done doing it.
Obscure Object of Desire – High Standard Model 10
How many times have you heard phrases like game changer, revolutionary and neva ben dun befo in regards to firearms? I’ve probably been guilty of it, and sometimes, you just get excited about a gun and specific features. Sometimes, those terms are used a little too lightly. Still, when High Standard introduced the Model 10 in 1967, they could have fairly described the gun as a revolutionary weapon, as a game changer and it was certainly a first for American shotguns.

The Garmin Xero C1 Pro Chronograph … A Game Changer
By Mike Hardesty
I’ve owned, from the late ‘70s until the present, four chronographs. The first two were the folding Shooting Chronys. They folded in half for easy storage and transportation but had a habit of cutting important wires when folded if you weren’t careful. They were powered by one 9-volt battery. I shot both of them. Not shot over both of them, but I literally shot them.

Cali Files Brief In One-Gun-A-Month Lawsuit
The battle over California’s law banning more than one firearm purchase in a 30-day period is heating up with state attorneys recently filing their opening brief in their appeal of the victory won in district court by the Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC).
“We expected the State to continue to rely on the failed arguments that they have made since the case began in December of 2020. They did not disappoint,” FPC said in a press release announcing the filing.

Warbird Intrepid BT – Upgraded Ear Protection for Pros
In the modern land of electronic ear protection there’s really three camps: the entry-level protection for casual shooters, the mid-level items for heavier volume shooters and the premium-priced, top-of-the line gear for professionals and those who closely guard their health. While the entry level will always be dominated by the least expensive options, WarBird has opted to provide a higher quality product aimed at the more serious shooter who needs a higher level of protection and functionality.

Does CBS News Really Not Want Guns Sold To Law-Abiding Citizens?
A CBS News report posted last week claims to do a deep dive into the trend of guns sold by police agencies ending up in the hands of criminals. And according to the report, called “Four takeaways from our investigation into police agencies selling their guns,” somehow that is law enforcement agencies’ fault.
“About nine times a day over two decades, a gun used in a crime has been traced back to its original owner: a law enforcement agency,” the reports states.
Court: Biden’s “Engaged In the Business” Rule Can‘t Be Enforced Against Some Americans
A cadre of pro-gun organizations has won a major early victory over the Biden Administration’s new Final Rule redefining who is “engaged in the business” of selling firearms.
The gross overstep by the Justice Department (DOJ) and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which basically outlaws private gun sales and was set to take effect on Monday, has been challenged in court in a number of different lawsuits. On Sunday, in the case State of Texas v.
The New Taurus 692 Executive Grade 3’’ .357 Magnum
Okay, I know it seems like it’s all Taurus or Rossi news lately, but they dropped a lot of stuff just ahead of the NRA Annual Meeting. This time it was the Executive Grade 692 revolver chambered in .357 Magnum.
The Executive Series guns are hand assembled and fitted at the Taurus plant in Georgia and are the premiere guns in the Taurus lineup. Like the other Executive Grade guns, the new 692 features a gorgeous satin finish and premium walnut grips.

Pro-gun Safe Firearm Storage Nonprofit In Serious Financial Crisis
The small Pennsylvania-based nonprofit Hold My Guns® describes itself as “for gun owners, by gun owners.” Its mission is to “connect responsible firearm owners with voluntary firearms storage through our national network of partnering FFLs, during times of mental health crisis or personal need.”
The process is simple. If a gun owner wants to securely store their weapons, they go to the website, find a participating Federal Firearm Licensee in their area, bring in their guns, fill out a contract and agree to pay a small fee for firearm storage, usually $5-$20 per month.
Rossi Releases the LWC Lightweight Carbine
With the NRA Annual Meeting coming up we’re starting to see a flurry of new gun releases, and the latest one is from Rossi. I was pretty enamored with the .45 Colt/.410 Tuffy Survivor they released not long back, and now they dropped a whole family of compact, lightweight, single-shot break open rifles called, appropriately enough, the Rossi LWC (Lightweight Carbine).
The LWCs sport synthetic stocks and 16.5-inch threaded barrels, so they come suppressor ready out of the box.

Trump Promises NRA Crowd Continued 2A Support, Big Victory In November
Former president and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump spoke to an exuberant crowd on Saturday at the annual meeting of the National Rifle Association in Dallas and promised to continue his unwavering support of the Second Amendment over the next four years.
Before the speech, Trump was endorsed by the NRAs Political Victory Fund, which called on members to elect Trump and defeat President Joe Biden in November.
“It’s a true honor to be here today to receive the endorsement of the proud American patriots at the NRA,” Trump said.
A Factory Tour Of WATCHTOWER Firearms—A Brand New American Gun Company
For those who love top-quality firearms and also love supporting American companies, finding a veteran-owned U.S. company that pours tons of quality and patriotism into each gun produced can be a godsend.
For an excellent example, look no further than WATCHTOWER Firearms, a new Houston, Texas, manufacturer striving to be become the next great American firearms company.
WATCHTOWER, a new American firearms company, draws its name from the brave Americans who fought under the southern cross in the Pacific as a part of Operation WATCHTOWER.
