The Truth About Guns

Cinqo de Mayo is Done; Plinko de Mayo Lives On
With May the Fourth Be With You and the weekend celebrations surrounding Cinco de Mayo, the Mexican-American version of St. Patrick’s Day, in our rearview mirror, hopefully the hangovers and upset stomachs from muchos tequila and over indulging on nachos and guac have finally subsided. Maybe the old noggin can even handle the soul jarring vibrations from a little recoil on the range.
But if you’re looking to still get in on a little soft shooting (think .22 rimfires here) that won’t upset the delicate balance your insides are still working to achieve, you can still take part in Aguila’s Plinko de Mayo celebration.

AOC Misleads (What’s New?) With Her Slanted “Facts” on Ammunition
In a demonstration that America’s outdoors and recreational shooting sports pastimes still bring people together, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 615 in a bipartisan vote, sending the Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act over to the U.S. Senate for consideration. The bill is strongly supported by NSSF and would require the Secretaries of the Interior and Agriculture to provide site-specific peer-reviewed scientific data that demonstrates traditional lead ammunition or fishing tackle is causing detrimental wildlife population impacts before prohibiting their use on federal lands.
NC Congresswoman Calls for Criminalizing, Not Educating Gun Owners on Safe Storage Practices
A North Carolina congresswoman is advocating for stringent gun storage laws aiming to curb the access children have to firearms, reported Yahoo News.
U.S. Rep. Deborah Ross, D-N.C., emphasized the critical nature of the issue, noting that firearms have become the leading cause of death or injury among children in her state, surpassing car accidents.
“In North Carolina, one of the reasons for this tragedy is the lack of safe storage across the country,” Ross stated.
North Carolina Shootout Drives The Importance of “Head on a Swivel” Home
A recent tragedy in North Carolina shows us that no matter how prepared you think you may be for a situation, you can’t overcome the problem of action vs. reaction. But, if you are careful to not rely on too many assumptions and always keep an eye on your surroundings, your chances are far better.
Initially, the situation seemed like many other law enforcement situations. One guy needs to be picked up for an arrest warrant, and doesn’t want to go.
MAC 1911 JSOC 45 Review: Retro-Tactical 1911 With A Special Forces Heritage
Back in the early 1980s and ’90s, the Joint Special Operation Command (JSOC), the Army’s SFOD-D or Special Forces Operational Detachment, Delta more commonly known as Delta Force and the Marine Expeditionary Unit Special Operations Capable (MEUSOC) guys didn’t care for the new Beretta M9 bumping the tried and proven 1911 to the side lines. They preferred the thump the .45 Auto gave, so they took 1911s left over from World War II and decided to enhance and update the platform by combining combat and competition features of the time.
Can AI Give Us A Self-Defense Edge?
A couple weeks ago, reviews for a new wearable AI device started hitting the market. While the device reviews aren’t great, they do give us a hint at the future of wearable technology. If used right in the future, the technology could be used to make people, armed or unarmed, a lot safer from criminal attackers.
But, before we get to my ideas on the potential for this technology, let’s first share one of these reviews and discuss what the technology is supposed to do:
What It’s Supposed To Be, But Falls Short Of
In short, the Humane AI pin is something that you wear on the front of your shirt.

Monthly Streak Of More Than 1 Million Gun Sales Reaches 57
When American retailers sold more than 1 million new firearms in a single month nearly five years ago many considered it a milestone. Now it has become more of the norm, with April marking the fifty-seventh straight month of guns sales of a million or more.
According to a report from the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the April 2024 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure was just over 1.2 million.

XS Sights Releases New Fiber Optic Sights for Glock Pistols
Back in the day, we used to paint our front sights white or red if we wanted to see them better. Times have changed, and now fiber optics are a much better option. They really do stand out, and work even in fairly low light. Fiber Optic inserts work great for all ages, but especially as I get older I appreciate the help in finding that front sight. XS Sights just dropped a new set of fiber optic sights for Glocks, and it just so happens that I shoot a lot of Glocks and Glock pattern pistols.
South Carolinian Faced 115 Years in Prison Until ATF Admitted They Got the Wrong Man
Wednesday, December 13, 2023, began just like any other workday for Bryan Montiea Wilson, a 33-year-old resident of West Columbia, South Carolina, who had never been in trouble with the law.
At 6 a.m., Wilson began his shift at Harsco Rails on West Technology Drive, where he worked as a material processor for the railroad equipment manufacturer. A couple hours later, Wilson’s supervisor found him on the facility floor and told him to report to the main office.
Colorado Governor Signs Bill Mandating Merchant Category Codes
While several states have passed laws this legislative session protecting gun owner privacy by prohibiting the use of firearm-specific merchant category codes by payment processors, Colorado has done just the opposite.
On Wednesday, Democrat Gov. Jared Polis signed SB24-066 into law, basically creating backdoor gun registration in the state by requiring use of such codes.
At issue is a new Merchant Category Code (MCC) for gun purchases adopted by the International Organization for Standardization a little over a year ago.
Calling Conservative Christians Fascists To Target Guns Backfires On Anti-Gun Zealots
An article from a couple weeks ago in Mother Jones raised the alarm about the dangers of conservative Christians with weapons, complete with the usual specter of fascism being raised. But, anyone capable of just a little bit of critical thinking and armed even with cursory historical knowledge will see pretty quickly that there’s a serious flaw in the thinking.
Before I get started, I do want to point out that I’m not The Truth About Guns’ most staunch defender of traditional conservative values.
Defender Tactical Mini-Pro Lifter and Cartridge Arrestor System for Mossberg Shotguns
I’m a fan of mini shotgun shells like the Aguila Mini Shells and Federal Shorty Shells. I realize they have their limitations concerning range and power level compared to full-sized shells, but I think they’re still a viable option if you keep those things in mind. The biggest problem with mini shells is that they won’t cycle a semi-automatic shotgun, and many pump shotguns don’t feed them well either. Mossberg’s new 590S series shotguns are designed with a lifter assembly so that they feed minis right from the factory.
Video From Monday’s Charlotte Massacre of Law Enforcement Officers in Charlotte, NC [VIDEO]
On Monday afternoon, a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force attempted to apprehend a career felon, Terry Clark Hughes. Usually the Marshals get their man, even violent fugitives like Hughes. Unfortunately, on this day the 39-year-old Hughes saw them coming.
In the end, the career felon shot and killed four law enforcement officers attempting to take him into custody (again) for a felon in possession of firearms. He wounded at least four other officers before he was shot dead.
Senator Announces Resolution To Stop Biden Admin’s Export Ban
We just reported on Monday about the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) planning to make the Biden Administration’s “temporary” export ban a permanent policy. Now, a U.S. Senator is making plans to skuttle the BIS scheme.
On Tuesday, Republican U.S. Sen. Bill Hagerty of Tennessee announced plans to file a Congressional Review Act (CRA) Resolution of Disapproval to block the interim Final Rule.
At issue is the supposed 90-day pause—it had already reached more than 180 days—that severely restricts the ability of American firearm, ammunition and related component manufacturers to obtain a license to export their products for sale.
Cimarron US Cavalry 1873 Revolver: A Great Take on the Colt Peacemaker
The Colt Single Action Army revolver is probably the most recognizable handgun ever, and its silhouette has graced the big screen in the holsters of heroes and villains, both real and imagined. Colt has been making the SAA off and on since 1873. Over the last several decades, replica makers and major manufacturers have spun their own versions. While that distinctive outline and general operation has remained the same, the SAA has undergone many minor changes since it was first introduced.
US Supreme Court Distributes Multiple Illinois Gun Ban Challenges for a May 16th Conference
The US Supreme Court announced Tuesday that several Illinois cases seeking a writ of certiorari to the court have been distributed to members of the court for a May 16th conference. This is the first sign that the members of the court might take action to remedy a legal insurrection taking place at the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Last fall, a three-judge panel of the federal Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals voted 2-1 to ignore the Heller and Bruen SCOTUS decisions.
A Quick Lesson From A Tennessee Home Invasion
A few days ago near Nashville, Tennessee, a particularly dumb criminal managed to catch some hot lead. After trying multiple times to get into the home and hearing the occupants threaten to shoot him should he get through, he kept f-ing around and ended up finding out:
While details aren’t yet available, what we do know is that this was a situation that went on for some time, perhaps for minutes.

Governor’s Inaction Means Maine Gun Purchasers Will Have To Contend With Waiting Period
A 72-hour-waiting period for lawful gun purchasers who have already passed the federal background check will take effect in Maine 90 days after the adjournment of the current legislative session.
Despite an abundance of public input against the measure, Gov. Janet Mills neither signed nor vetoed the measure, allowing it to go into effect without her signature.
“Maine residents elected the Governor to make hard decisions, and she took the cowardly way out and allowed a terrible, unconstitutional bill to go into law,” a legislative update by Gun Owners of Maine stated.
