Judge Strikes Down Illinois FOID Requirement
A federal judge in Illinois has ruled that the state law requiring citizens to have a Firearm Owner Identification (FOID) card to possess a firearm in the home for personal protection is unconstitutional.
In the ruling on the case State of Illinois v. Vivian Claudine Brown, supported by the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA), White County Resident Circuit Judge T. Scott Webb wrote: “The Defendant’s possession of a .22 caliber rifle within the confines of her home, even without a valid FOID card falls squarely within the protections afforded her by the Second Amendment.”
The case revolves around defendant Vivian Claudine Brown and a rifle she owned.

Sig Sauer’s Tango-MSR 1-10x26mm: The Do-Everything LPVO
The shooting world has witnessed a noticeable shift in optics preferences over the past decade. Traditional fixed-power scopes and red dots are increasingly giving way to Low Power Variable Optics (LPVOs), and for good reason. These versatile scopes offer true 1x magnification for quick target acquisition at close range, while providing enough zoom to engage targets at extended distances. Sig Sauer’s new Tango-MSR 1-10x26mm scope aims to deliver this flexibility at a price point that won’t break the bank, and after extensive testing, I can say they’ve hit the mark.

Mexican Officials So Corrupt, They No Longer Understand What Corruption Is
Mexican officials aren’t even trying to hide the fact that the highest ranks of their federal government is rife with narco-terrorism corruption. That’s not new, but it is rather bold, given that the U.S. Supreme Court will consider a petition to dismiss their frivolous case claiming U.S. firearm manufacturers are responsible for violent crime that’s plagued that country for decades.
If Mexican officials are trying to prove their case, their lawyers’ arguments aren’t matching what their own government is showing the world.
Bill Would Expand PLCAA Protection For Gunmakers
A new measure introduced in the U.S. Senate aims to strengthen the protections offered to gunmakers against lawsuits stemming from the unlawful use of their legally manufactured and lawfully sold products.
First, some background information. In 2005, Congress enacted the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) as a legal defense for gun manufacturers and dealers when combating frivolous lawsuits regarding products that are legally manufactured and sold but later used to commit crimes.

Judge Scuttles Maine’s 3-Day Waiting Period
U.S. District Court Judge Lance Walker has granted a preliminary injunction blocking Maine’s 72-hour waiting period law for firearm purchases, which was challenged by gun-rights advocates.
The law, passed in 2024 after Gov. Janet Mills allowed it to become law without her signature, required firearm retailers to delay delivery for three days after an FBI NICS background check approval.
“This decision affirms that unconstitutional delays on Second Amendment rights are not permissible,” said Lawrence G.

AR Builds: The KE Arms 6.5 Grendel
I’ve been kind of fascinated with the various 6.5 cartridges since my teens. I remember my dad talking about how the 6.5 sits in a sweet spot as far as it’s ballistic coefficient, and how accurate the rounds could be. I have a variety of military rifles in 6.5 Japanese, 6.5 Swede and 6.5 Carcano, but kept meaning to build a modern rifle in a modern 6.5 caliber. Since I work with the AR platform so much, I kept coming back to the 6.5 Grendel, and I finally built one last fall.

S.D. Senate Passes Bill To Ban Gun-Related Merchant Code
A measure that would outlaw the use of a new firearm-specific Merchant Category Code (MCC) for gun purchases in South Dakota has been approved by the State Senate.
At issue is a new Merchant Category Code (MCC) for gun purchases adopted by the International Organization for Standardization in 2022. MCCs are used by payment processors (like Visa and Mastercard) and other financial services companies to categorize transactions.
Prior to the creation of the specific code for guns, firearms retailers fell under the MCC for sporting goods stores or miscellaneous retail.

Another Judge Rules Against Machine Gun Ban
We reported last August how a federal judge in Kansas ruled that the federal law tightly regulating the ownership and transfer of full-auto firearms, aka machine guns, is unconstitutional. Now, a federal judge in Mississippi has ruled the same, and for many of the same reasons.
On January 29, U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves ruled in the case U.S. v. Brown that the federal law effectively banning the sale and possession of newly produced or unregistered machine guns was unconstitutional, at least for the defendant in the criminal case.

U.S. Representative Jack Bergman (R-Mich.) has introduced H.R. 45, the Firearm Industry Nondiscrimination (FIND) Act, into Congress with the backing of 38 co-sponsors. This proposed legislation, also supported by the NSSF, aims to prevent corporations from profiting off taxpayer-funded federal contracts while discriminating against the firearm industry, a sector protected under the Constitution.
“This legislation is critical to ensuring ‘woke’ corporations don’t use their financial might, funded by taxpayers, to deny essential services to the firearm industry,” said Lawrence G.

R.I. Governor Sneaks AWB In Proposed Budget
What do you do if you’re the chief executive of a state and you want to ban so-called “assault weapons,” but you’ve never managed to get the legislature to do your dirty work for you? If you’re the governor of Rhode Island, you try to get such a ban by more backdoor means.
According to an alert from Gun Owners of America (GOA), Rhode Island Democrat Gov. Daniel McKee recently inserted funding for a ban on many common semi-automatic firearms into his recently released FY 2026 budget proposal, causing alarm for Ocean State gun owners.
