Americans Say ‘Gun Violence’ is Criminal Justice, Not Public Health Issue, National Poll Finds

More than eight out of ten Americans say that the misuse of guns in violent crimes is a matter for the criminal justice system, not a public health issue, and that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) should not spend resources on the study of "gun violence" but instead concentrate on viruses and disease.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) today released a new report demonstrating the negative effects that the State of California's ban on the use of traditional lead ammunition in hunting will have on hunters, the state's economy and wildlife conservation. That report, commissioned by NSSF on behalf of the firearms and ammunition industry, was presented today at a public hearing of the Wildlife Resource Committee of the California Fish and Game Commission.

Last week, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts held its primaries for the upcoming November election. While the outcomes of most of the races were anticipated, two of them did deliver landmark upsets. On Sept. 9, nine-term Representative John Tierney lost his primary election, a blow that has not been dealt to an incumbent Congressman from Massachusetts in 22 years. Joining Tierney in the losers’ circle was Warren Tolman, who lost his Democratic bid for attorney general to Maura Healy.
