The 2014 elections, particularly the most closely contested races for U.S. Senate seats, offer two possibilities. The first is for our industry and consumers to join forces with other pro-Second Amendment groups and individuals to lead the way in electing enough new pro-gun lawmakers to ensure that the anti-gun agenda can’t pass in either chamber of Congress during the final two years of the Obama administration. The alternative is the very real prospect of anti-gun candidates succeeding in enough close races to provide the handful of votes needed to resurrect and ramrod a sweeping roster of proposed restrictions through the Senate.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has  announced that it will be holding its second  public workshop on June 3 to discuss the implementation of California’s new lead ammunition ban, signed into law last year by Gov. Jerry Brown after being championed by the Governor’s personal dog walker and Humane Society lobbyist. While this simple public forum may appear benign, this law (AB 711) illustrates the duplicitous work of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

NSSF is making a total of $100,000 in grants available to public and private colleges for start-ups of new target-shooting clubs and teams.

There are two NSSF Retailer Education Seminars scheduled in June. First on June 24 at the Parke Regency Hotel & Conference Center, 1413 Leslie Drive in Bloomington, Illinois, then at the Hilton Indianapolis North, 8181 E Shadeland Ave., in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 26. Both seminars are scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m.

NSSF today praised the voters’ passage on Tuesday of ballot measures in five West Virginia counties to allow hunting on private property on Sundays.

Oral arguments, originally scheduled to be heard Wednesday in Fresno Superior Court, have been postponed until May 14 in the lawsuit brought by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) and the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI) on behalf of their members against the State of California to prevent enforcement of the state’s microstamping statute.

While many segments of the U.S. economy have lagged over the past few years, the firearms and ammunition industry continues to buck the trend and push forward with strong sales and broad customer interest.

There are now 13 Democrats and 14 Republican senators signed on as co-sponsors of the Bipartisan Sportsmen’s Act, S.1996, the most important pro-hunting legislation in a generation.
