One to Watch: Cold Steel 4Max

Mon, 04/27/2015 - 16:07

I am not a fan of big folders (I do, on the other hand, have a thing for big fixed blades).  My favorite knife has a blade length of 2.25 inches, not exactly a behemoth.  My largest folder, the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 in Elmax is a modest 3.44 inches.  Big folders just aren’t my thing.

A Bucket List For REEL Fishermen

Mon, 04/27/2015 - 16:03

Almost everyone saw the movie “The Bucket List.” And for many sportsmen, deep in their heart of hearts, there is an outdoor list of things we want to do before we die.

Go Natural with Fish Baits

Mon, 04/27/2015 - 16:02

Fishing with live baits is a natural thing. I have no clue who decided a worm on a hook could catch fish, but it was certainly a timeless discovery. Every kid that grew up fishing that pond in the back forty or that slough ditch behind the house knew to take a shovel for digging some worms. All you needed was a cane pole, some kite string, a hook, sinker, and a bobber, and an old Maxwell House coffee can.

How To Score A Wild Turkey

Mon, 04/27/2015 - 15:57

You can “score” a wild turkey similar to the way you score a whitetail deer, which is a fun way for hunters to compare trophies. The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) compiles records for all subspecies of turkeys, and offers simple steps for scoring birds, as well as a “calculator” for figuring total score.

Video: BulletSafe Bulletproof Cap Production Prototype

Mon, 04/27/2015 - 14:47

Back in December, I posted about a conceptual bulletproof cap. Some folks pooh-poohed the idea out of hand, but I looked up BulletSafe’s president at the 2015 SHOT Show and had a talk with him, and posted, I found out it was definitely a real product.

Virtual President Gun Control Video: Best 7 Minutes Ever on GC?

Mon, 04/27/2015 - 14:13

Somehow, I’d missed this guy. Bill Whittle, that is. A man who has created a unique approach to communicating conservative principles – TRUE conservative principles – through well-spoken oratory in videos made as if he were indeed President of the United States. He calls himself the Virtual President.

If only we could have a President with these true core values, the guts to say the things he says, and the spine to stand up and tell it like it is… well, I think the USA would be a better place.

Please take a few minutes to listen to what he says about guns and con control in this video he posted in early 2013. Some call it the best 7 minutes ever, on the subject of gun control.

If you agree, please share it with your friends.

A Lego Revolver – That Really Shoots!

Mon, 04/27/2015 - 13:30

To quote Don Henley, “I’ve been a lot of places and I’ve seen a lot of things, but sonny I’ve seen one thing beats ’em all.” And so far, it’s this handy-dandy revolver made of Legos.

This Lego “iron” doesn’t operate exactly like a typical revolver – the cylinder rotates with the trigger pull, as a double action would do, but the hammer must first be cocked, ala single action. And there’s no trigger return spring, so it has to be moved forward every each shot. But as Dad use to say, those are minor details.

Like the Anaconda, it’s a six-shooter with a vent rib atop the barrel. Being made of Legos, it is of course shaped somewhat differently than a Colt… but the cylinder turns in the correct direction, and it’s got open sights that work.

Pretty cool. We sure didn’t have Legos like this when I was a kid.

The Kimber Clan

Thu, 04/23/2015 - 21:54

Most gun enthusiasts it seems generally like all kinds of guns. Even so, we all have our favorites either defined by types of actions, calibers or gauges, or brand names. There are shotgun people, those for whom “rifles rule”, and the handgunners. Then you can further break down those general categories into more narrow pursuits.

One to Watch: H&K Feint

Thu, 04/23/2015 - 21:48

In the past few years, Benchmade’s product line changes have made it impossible to figure out where stuff is and if it is still being made. This is true even for someone that keeps a close watch on these sort of things. Between the four color classes, the dropping of one color class, the loss of the Harley Davidson license (to Case), the introduction of the Bone Collector line, the dropping of the Bone Collector line, the purchase and integration of Lone Wolf, the dropping of Lone Wolf, and finally the introduction of Benchmade Munt Hunt, it has been nuts.

Kickstarter EDC Round Up

Tue, 04/21/2015 - 18:51

Some of the best, most interesting gear being released is coming from Kickstarter.  As the everyday carry trend has picked up steam the number and quality of items on Kickstarter has increased.  We used to be treated to nothing but weirdo hair scrunchy wallets and machined pens.  Now we are starting to see major players and great ideas.  Here is an overview of some KS projects that are focused on EDC.  Some are recently closed and others are ongoing

Open-Carrier Attacked in Wal-Mart; Will Never carry Openly Again

Tue, 04/21/2015 - 10:42

Yakima, WA – As I’ve noted before, open carry of guns is usually a bad idea, for many reasons. When you advertise your firearm, you create opportunity – for others. Opportunities for the leery to get freaked out, for potential criminals to target you first in a violent crime, or to try and steal your gun from you.

Last Minute Gobbler Tactics

Mon, 04/20/2015 - 18:29

Alas turkey hunting seasons are quickly wrapping up all over the country. If you have not yet scored on a boss gobbler like me, then now is the time to pull out all the stops. Frankly, weather here in the south has been the worst ever for turkey hunting seasons that I can recall for a couple decades. It is tough to beat Mother Nature at her own game.
