Beretta Storm 9mm Carbine Review

Wed, 07/09/2014 - 18:10

In today’s world, most people live in cities and suburbs, drive small cars and live in small houses and apartments. Most target ranges are indoor and are limited to pistol caliber arms. This makes it impractical for most people to own a full size rifle. This leaves a lot of shooters with a pistol as their primary arm for sport and self defense. But there is another option, the pistol caliber carbine.

4 Subscription Boxes to Try

Wed, 07/09/2014 - 17:17

Having goods and services delivered straight to your door is hardly a new concept; after all, the entire concept of mail revolves around the necessity of exchanging physical goods. In an increasingly digitized world, some things just can’t be replicated, and that includes items like clothes, food, toiletries, and more. But the latest influx of subscription boxes–boxes containing themed items delivered on a regular basis–certainly use the web as a tool for branding and marketing. The good thing is that there are hundreds of subscription boxes to choose from. The bad thing is that there are hundreds of subscription boxes to choose from. With reviews from SubscriptionBox.com in mind, we searched the web and found several subscription boxes worth checking out.

New Laser Trainer for 22 Calibers

Wed, 07/09/2014 - 11:23

Laser training is a good way to hone your shooting skills, and/or keep them sharp. With a sound-activated laser, you can practice dry-firing while seeing approximately where the bullet would have impacted, had you fired a round. This saves ammo of course, and also allows you to practice at home, with the gun you’d be using if you were at the range.

Target Store Targets Your Guns

Wed, 07/09/2014 - 10:27

Not too long ago, Chipotle “Mexican Grill” asked customers not to bring their guns inside. Ironically, this gun ban was spurred by “open-carry activists” who thought they were doing a good thing for gun rights by carrying rifles and shotguns into the restaurant while other folks were trying to enjoy a casual meal.

KnifeTests.com CTD Rough Use Destruction Test

Tue, 07/08/2014 - 15:24

This week’s KnifeTests.com destruction test features the CTD (Cheaper Than Dirt) Rough Use fixed blade knife. This knife is no longer available through CTD’s website, but they still have a page with the knife stats. The Rough Use is a large knife, clocking in at 13.5″ overall. CTD says the knife is “build to be abused,” so, naturally, Noss puts that to the test.

Turn Your Bow Into a Double Barrel

Tue, 07/08/2014 - 10:54

Bowhunting has much allure for many hunters… but there are many downsides to it. Hunting with a bow puts you at a definite disadvantage when compared to hunting with a modern firearm. One of those shortcomings is the lack of ability to make quick follow-up shots.

The Basics of Bow String Maintenance

Tue, 07/08/2014 - 10:33

As you probably already realize, your bow string is an essential part of your bow; if there is no string then there is no possibility of shooting. It would be like a car without a motor.

Why Do You Hunt?

Tue, 07/08/2014 - 10:28

It’s around five something in the morning when the alarm goes off. I will myself out of bed despite the fact that it’s Saturday morning. Thirty minutes later, my boots are crunching across the frost as I make my way to the hang-on stand put up in hopes for that one deer. I settle in and my heart rate slows as I sit in the pitch-black darkness, waiting for the world to wake up. I doze off for a few minutes and awake to the chorus of the woods as the sky turns gray, then pink. There is no blackberry, no TV, no conference calls, no routine, no voices—just birds and squirrels going about their business. There’s something primal about the first sight of game.

Carbon Fiber Barrel Prices Drop

Tue, 07/08/2014 - 10:14

Carbon fiber is some awesome stuff, and can provide a lot of strength in a very light package. The downside is that it’s usually pretty expensive. Christensen Arms, a pioneer in the application of carbon fiber to firearms, has just made it more affordable to outfit your rifle with a light, high-tech barrel, via recent manufacturing improvements which they say allow price reductions of 25% to 63%.

Distinct Advantages of Thermal Imaging

Tue, 07/08/2014 - 09:09

Seeing thermal images in the dark of night is cool. I was given the opportunity for a month to check out the FLIR Scout PS series handheld thermal imaging unit, and even in a limited product test mode, my mind was going wild conjuring up the multiple uses for such a tool. I wish it had been the open hunting season.

Prometheus Design Werx Launches Site

Thu, 07/03/2014 - 19:47

Tactical gear with an urban edge is all the rage right now, likely due to the millennial generation growing up and seeking design that fits a different aesthetic, something more minimalistic but still rugged. In a way, this has brought tactical style full circle–designers want to connect products to history, emulating archetypes and isolating the most important features of gear. One such recurring figure is Prometheus, referenced often in military, and now again in the new company, Prometheus Design Werx.

An Overview of Saltwater Baits and Lures

Wed, 07/02/2014 - 19:34

When deciding which bait or lure to use, consider how fish feed. Scent, sound, and movement are the ways fish detect meals. Fish use sound vibrations to communicate and find prey. Since sound travels faster through water than through air, fish can hear food or saltwater lures that are a long way off. Scent is another powerful weapon for fish; they can pick up one particle of scent and use it to hone in on prey, communicate danger or navigate through the water.

H&K Heckler & Koch P30L 9mm Pistol Review

Wed, 07/02/2014 - 19:27

I have always wanted a $1100 H&K pistol about the same way I have always wanted a BMW 7 series. In reality, there are many cars far less expensive which can deliver the utility of the BMW, but with the Beemer, you get a style and exclusivity which many cannot afford. I still do not have the $85K for a low end 7 Series, but I decided to plop down the cash for the H&K P30L after seeing it at SHOT show 2014.

Focus on Optics Planet OPMOD Best Buys

Wed, 07/02/2014 - 19:09

In the world of hunting there can be no substitute for having quality optics at hand. I have found that out the hard way a number of times, but never again. So many quality optics are on the shelves these days that no self-respecting hunter of any game animal should be without a good set of binoculars and/or a high quality spotting scope. Having access to both is the Holy Grail of big game spotting and observation.

The Importance of Shooting One-Handed

Wed, 07/02/2014 - 19:04

One of the most important consideration in choosing a defensive handgun should be your ability to run it effectively with one hand. The main reasons are two: 1) You might not have both hands available due to an injury before or during the fight and 2) You may have to fire before the support hand can reach the strong hand.
