Smart gun technology is generally met with some resistance by firearm enthusiasts. There are a few reasons for this; smart technology is generally intrusive when it comes to personal data and privacy, and potentially opens doors for hacking or other nefarious activity. Some also see smartguns as a violation of the Second Amendment. Regardless, this hasn’t stopped some companies from breaking into the emerging industry.

In modern times, knives dubbed as “outdoor” tools tend to be more tactical than not, favoring large, long blades and plenty of matte black finish. But for hundreds of years, Arctic cultures favored small, wood-handled skinners to help them hunt, fish, and survive in harsh landscapes. One such tool is the puukko, which, like the higonokami, is seeing a bit of a resurgence as knife enthusiasm spreads.

There’s a thread on reddit about the respective merits of the terms “Prepper” and “Survivalist”. This is an interesting debate to me, so I figured I’d throw it out there for the AllOutdoor.com audience to take a look at. Basically, if you’re into “prepping” at all, do you consider yourself a “prepper” or a “survivalist”, and why?

Regardless of the money you just spent on that new scope for your deer rifle, its quality doesn’t matter much if it is not mounted properly in suitable rings. Now is not the time to go cheap. You bought a good rifle and a good optical scope, so also buy some high quality rings and mounts to set the rig up right.

Sure footing on boats is required of anglers, unless they want to sleep with the fishes, as Godfather mobster Luca Brasi would say. This week’s KnifeTests.com destruction test features the Cold Steel Bushman, an inexpensive survival knife that claims to be “[one of] the strongest survival/outdoor knives in the world [for the money]!” At $37.49 through Cold Steel’s website, it’s not your average survival knife.

I’ve waterfowl hunted most of my life. I’m still amazed at how subtle differences in the decoy spread can and will impact the approaching birds, and ultimately the success of the hunt. I don’t have all the answers, however I can tell you that setting up a highly effective decoy spread are both an art and a science. And like many other pursuits, it’s something that you can never quite perfect; it requires continuous changes and enthusiasm.

Without question I love my Glocks — my G19, G26, and G17.
