Recently, we wrote a letter to the editor of USA Today to correct inaccuracies in an article about a new Everytown for Gun Safety “study”. In that study, the team at the Bloomberg-funded Everytown was following in the footsteps of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence in willfully misconstruing key facts.
...NSSF Statement Regarding the Bipartisan Sportmen’s Act
NSSF today issued this statement regarding the Bipartisan Sportsmen’s Act, S. 2363, that earlier today, failed to garner the 60 votes needed to move towards final passage:
NSSF understands why pro-sportsmen members from both sides of the aisle wanted an opportunity to vote on amendments unique to their respective states. That said, it is disheartening to see America’s longstanding tradition of bipartisanship on sportsmen’s issues sacrificed to the continued gridlock preventing meaningful bipartisan legislation. NSSF looks forward to working with the vast majority of Senators who continue to have an interest in passing this historic legislation on behalf of current and future generations of hunters.

On Monday evening, the United States Senate voted by an overwhelming 82-12 margin to move ahead with consideration of S. 2363, the Bipartisan Sportsmen Act of 2014. We can expect Senators this week to begin debating the most important package of pro-sportsmen’s legislation in a generation. Monday’s vote was just the first. We can expect other votes on amendments, to end debate, and finally on the bill itself.

...ATF Extends Timeframe to Comply with Ruling 2013-5
The following is a special advisory issued today by ATF:
On Dec. 17, 2013, ATF issued Ruling 2013-5. It enables federal firearms licensees (FFLs) to maintain their firearms acquisition and disposition records electronically and gave FFLs until June 15, 2014 to comply with the requirements. It has come to ATF’s attention a number of FFLs need additional time in order to meet the requirements of the ruling. As a result, ATF is extending the date 120 days to Oct. 15, 2014.
