Smart gun company touted by democrats files chapter 11-style restructuring

Tue, 05/26/2015 - 10:12

AWR Hawkins for Breitbart reports:

On May 20, smart gun manufacturer Armatix admitted they have entered into “chapter 11-style restructuring proceedings in Germany.”

Armatix makes the iP1 smart gun, which Democrats raved about and pushed to mandate as the only gun that could legally be sold in New Jersey in 2014. Democrats were joined in this effort by gun control groups like the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

The iP1 is only chambered in .22 long rifle and costs $1,800 per gun. The .22 lr is a meager round for self-defense coupled with a price tag that is over three times the amount Americans pay for .45 caliber Glock, and nearly four times the amount Americans pay for a .38 Special polymer revolver from Ruger.

And this is the type of company that gun controllers want the gun industry dependent upon.

VIDEO: Legally-armed Atlanta man holds carjacker at gunpoint until police arrive

Sat, 05/23/2015 - 14:56

Mr. Hashim Fannin of Atlanta published a video on his YouTube channel showing a recent incident in which he held a carjacker at gunpoint until police arrived. In his post comments, Fannin said that the “clown jumped in my car and tried to rob me…Needless to say, that didn’t end well for him.” The video does contain some NSFW language but is definitely worth watching. Kudos to Fannin for protecting himself without ever having to fire a shot.

Despite veto threat, Minnesota Gov. approves bill that legalizes use of gun suppressors

Fri, 05/22/2015 - 18:49

Adam Uren for BringMeTheNews.com reports:

Despite previously suggesting he would veto it, Gov. Mark Dayton today passed a public safety bill that includes legalizing the use of firearm suppressors in Minnesota.

The measure was one of four bills the governor signed Friday, put forward by the Senate and House as part of the state’s $41 billion budget. They cover public safety and judiciary finance, higher education, health and human services, and transportation finance, his office confirmed.

Just a month ago, Dayton vowed to veto any bill crossing his desk that legalizes the use of suppressors in the state, saying: “To allow gunshots to be silenced increases the danger to law enforcement officers, and to innocent bystanders.”

But the Pioneer Press reports the final bill passed by the House and Senate following his comments featured “scaled back language” that he was willing to accept.

This is a great victory for gun rights in Minnesota!

An iPhone is Not Body Armor

Fri, 05/22/2015 - 17:45

Adam Westlake of SlashGear.com reports:

There is a growing trend of YouTube videos where recently released mobile devices, like new iPhones and Samsung Galaxies, get shot by weapons such as sniper rifles and shotguns, all while being filmed with precision cameras, allowing us to see the phones break and shatter in super-detailed slow motion. This iPhone 5C might resemble something from those videos, but it wasn’t shot for the sake of entertainment. No, it was shot by someone who was trying to murder the owner.

That owner is a 25-year-old British man who was shot at close range with a shotgun, and police say he wouldn’t be alive if he hadn’t had the phone in his pocket. The victim still had serious abdominal injuries, which is understandable seeing how bent and deformed the phone became.

AppleCare probably doesn’t cover that.

Bill would require background checks for private sales at gun shows

Fri, 05/22/2015 - 12:17

Lydia Wheeler for The Hill reported on Tuesday, regarding a new piece of legislation in Congress that would require gun show operators to provide information on their venders to the attorney general. She writes:

A House Democrat has introduced legislation that would require sellers to obtain a background check for all guns sold at gun shows.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday reintroduced the Gun Show Loophole Closing Act, a bill long championed by former Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.),.

The bill would subject anyone selling or transferring a gun to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System and require that transfers be reported to the attorney general.

Maloney said a background check is required when a Federal Firearm Licensee wants to sell firearms at a gun show, but no such requirement exists for private sales.

Gun show operators would be required to register with the attorney general and provide information on upcoming shows, including the identity of all firearm vendors, and keep a record of all vendors’ identities.

Gov. Scott signs Florida emergency concealed carry bill

Fri, 05/22/2015 - 11:55

Chris Eger for Guns.com reports:

It will now be legal for gun owners in the Sunshine State to temporarily carry concealed handguns without a permit during periods when the sun isn’t shining so bright.

Now law is a measure to allow law-abiding citizens without concealed carry licenses to bear arms during declared mandatory evacuations. A reboot of a failed 2014 bill that was killed in last minute political maneuvering, this session’s effort had an easier go of it after police lobby groups embraced the proposal. It passed the Republican-controlled Senate in an easy 29-10 vote while the House last month approved it by a 86-26 margin.

“As Hurricane Season approaches it’s critical that our rights are protected during natural disasters,” advised Sen. Jeff Brandes, R-Petersburg, in a statement. “With the signing of SB 290, all lawful gun owners will be permitted to carry a concealed weapon if they are complying with a mandatory evacuation during a state of emergency. I’m proud to have sponsored this bipartisan bill ensuring that we have the right to protect our families during these sometimes chaotic times.”

Northrup v. Toledo: Why a Lawfully-Carried Handgun is Like a Wallet

Fri, 05/22/2015 - 10:51

Last Wednesday, the federal Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit issued its decision in the case of Shawn Northrup v. City of Toledo Police Department, a case about one man’s lawful open carry of handguns and the police officers’ response to his exercise of Second Amendment rights. The thrust of the decision centered on the issue of “qualified immunity,” a legal doctrine that sometimes holds government officials free from liability under special circumstances.

Louisiana legislation would teach schoolchildren gun safety

Thu, 05/21/2015 - 19:59

Sam Rolley for PersonalLiberty.com wrote today:

Following the unspeakable tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012, gun control advocates have routinely attempted to promote anti-2nd Amendment legislation as necessary to protect children in the U.S. A new bill making its way through the Louisiana Legislature represents one of the few genuine efforts to do just that.

The GOP legislation, H.B. 446, would allow for public schools in the state to set aside time and resources to teach students gun safety lessons modeled on the National Rifle Association’s Eddie Eagle GunSafe program.

“The goal is to save children’s lives and protect our youth,” said Louisiana Rep. Blake Miguez (R-Erath), the legislation’s sponsor.

Miguez, who was elected to the state legislature during a special election in February, is a firearm enthusiast who was once a contestant on the History Channel shooting competition “Top Shot.”

Assembly kills measure allowing concealed guns at colleges

Thu, 05/21/2015 - 19:47

Riley Snyder for the Associated Press reported today:

Nevada lawmakers have defeated a measure that would have allowed holders of concealed-weapon permits to bring guns onto college campuses and led to one elected official storming off the Assembly floor.

Assembly members voted 18-24 Thursday to defeat an amendment to SB175 that would have enacted the so-called campus carry law. Eight Republicans and 16 Democrats voted against the measure.

The amendment would have allowed concealed-weapon permit holders to carry concealed guns on college campuses and store firearms in locked cars. Republican Assembly members Michele Fiore and Ira Hansen proposed the amendment after a Senate committee refused to hold a hearing on a separate campus carry bill.
