Ammoland: Brady Campaign vs Chuck’s Gun Shop
Ammoland reports:
For a several years the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) has been urging its members to support Chuck’s Gun Shop in Riverdale against accusations by Jesse Jackson Sr, Fr. Michael Pfleger, ICHV and the Brady Campaign.
Each time Chuck’s Gun Shop & Pistol Range is targeted, a few members will write to the ISRA and question the strategy of defending this shop?
The Brady Campaign has an ultimate mission to ban private ownership of firearms.
Their stated purpose and their names have changed several times over the years, but gun banners have one long term goal, and that’s banning your firearms and seeing them confiscated and destroyed. Americans now know that they really do have a right to keep and bear arms, so Brady no longer outwardly talks about their complete ban. No matter what the new catchphrase is, whether it’s “Gun Violence Prevention” or “Gun Safety Advocacy”, Brady has a smoke screen of lies to hide their real agenda. This year, the latest theme they have cooked up is “Bad Apple Dealers.”

...Washington state anti-gun group targets House Democrats
Joel Connelly for Seattle P-I reports:
The movement that passed Initiative 594, requiring criminal background checks for gun purchasers, has a new target in its sights — the Democrats who hold an increasingly narrow majority in the state House of Representatives.
They are angry the Dems blocked a vote and killed the Extreme Risk Protection Orders Act, which would allow family members and police to petition the court for orders temporarily keeping firearms from hands of those who pose an immediate risk to family and society.
The House Democrats may have appeased the Gun Lobby, but they’re going to be hearing from the gun-safety lobby. The annual luncheon Thursday draw more than 1,000 people and appeared to raise at least $600,000.

Guns.com: UPS revises policy on shipping silencers and suppressors
Chris Eger for Guns.com reports:
Just three weeks after United Parcel Service reiterated its policy against accepting National Firearm Act-compliant suppressors for shipment, the company has reversed its course.
In mid-May UPS, commonly also referred to as Brown, became aware of a shipper who was attempting to use the service to transport suppressors. At the time, the company – the largest shipping firm in the world – pointed to its long-standing policy to not accept the devices even for shipment between dealers unless the shipper was specially approved.
This set off a flurry of negotiations with industry groups to try to come to an accommodation on the devices, which are at an all-time high in popularity and are now legal for civilians to own in 40 states. Now, the shipper has officially changed its mind and will accept the items.

...The Hill: Republicans wield power of the purse to block Obama’s gun regs
Tim Devaney for The Hill reports:
Legislation to fund the Justice Department is chock full of GOP-backed language designed to keep the Obama administration from moving ahead with gun control regulations.
The Commerce-Justice-Science appropriations bill, which cruised through the House this week, contains several provisions directed squarely at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) rule-making authority.
Under the measure, the ATF would be prohibited from banning certain forms of armor-piercing ammunition or blocking the importation of military-style shotguns. Another provision would block federal agents from creating what critics say is a gun registry.

Fox News: Texas gov poised to roll back 140-year-old open carry gun ban
Melissa Jacobs for Fox News reports:
The near-certain signing into law of an open-carry gun measure will send Texas back to the days of the Wild West – at least legislatively.
The bill, passed by the state Legislature and expected to earn Gov. Greg Abbott’s signature within the next week, would reverse a 140-year-old ban on carrying handguns in plain sight. Despite its reputation as a pro-gun state, Texas is one of just five with an outright ban on open carry.
“It’s a thumbs up for law-abiding citizens,” said Rep. Debbie Riddle. Riddle, a Republican who represents part of Houston and co-sponsored the bill. “Everywhere there is a denial of Second Amendment rights, crime is through the roof. It’s a deterrent. If someone is going to rob a convenience store and there are other people inside with guns on their hips, they might think twice.”

...Breitbart: Mets pitcher says he was duped into wearing gun control shirt
AWR Hawkins for Breitbart reports:
On June 2, Breitbart News reported that the New York Mets joined with Michael Bloomberg and Piers Morgan in a “Wear Orange” push for gun control by publishing photos of the team and staff wearing orange.
On June 3, Mets’ Pitcher Dillon Gee responded—via Twitter—to make sure everyone knows he did not wear the shirt for gun control and does not support the Bloomberg/Morgan cause.
Gee tweeted: “This is not why i put on that shirt this day. I in no way support Bloomberg/Morgan or gun control.”
When a fan tweeted back to ask why he wore the shirt, Gee responded: “Was told it was in support of raising awareness for gun violence. I don’t support senseless gun violence. That’s all.”
Gun control movements have co-opted such phrases as “gun safety” and “gun violence” as a way to soften the negative reactions from Americans to the anti-Second Amendment substance of their campaigns.

...Oregon county vote against enforcing state gun law sparks outcry
Courtney Sherwood for Reuters reports
Gun-control advocates on Wednesday decried as a misguided political maneuver a vote by Oregon county commissioners against enforcement of new statewide gun background check requirements.
Lane County’s commissioners in a 4-1 vote on Tuesday decreed that local government could not afford to investigate violations of the new law, and affirmed the “right of the people to keep and bear arms” under the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment.
The new law expands Oregon’s existing gun-sale background check requirements to cover nearly all private firearm buyers, closing loopholes that had allowed unvetted sales online or between individuals, and imposing new limits on sales to people with severe mental illness.

...President Bloomberg? Speculation flies of possible candidacy
Chris Eger for Guns.com reports:
There is speculation in New York-based media outlets that prominent Democrats are seeking to entice former Mayor Michael Bloomberg into a bid for the White House in 2016.
…While there has been no word from the Bloomberg camp, the billionaire with hobbies that include funding gun control groups and political candidates has briefly flirted with running for the nation’s highest office several times. As noted by Vanity Fair after Goodwin’s article broke, rumors of a Bloomberg presidential run popped up in both 2007 and 2011….
Gun rights advocates reading the tealeaves of a possible Bloomberg run see it as a defacto assault on the Second Amendment.
“I think the big motivation for Bloomberg wanting to be president is that he could spend hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to attack Second Amendment rights instead of the $50 million of his own money he is spending yearly,” Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, told Guns.com Wednesday.

U.S. Rep.: Force gun owners to ‘buy insurance or pay fine’
Leo Hohmann for World Net Daily reports:
U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., has introduced a bill that would force gun owners to have liability insurance or face fines of up to $10,000.
According to Maloney. the Firearms Risk Protection Act would curb so-called “gun violence,” much like car insurance has lowered vehicle fatalities, she said, because gun owners would be more careful.
Maloney said auto insurance carriers incentivize drivers to take precautions to reduce accidents, but no such incentives exist for firearm owners. She wants to change that….
“An insurance requirement would allow the free market to encourage cautious behavior and help save lives,” she said. “Adequate liability coverage would also ensure that the victims of gun violence are fairly compensated when crimes or accidents occur.”
