...How the 2014 Midterm Elections Affect Gun Owners & Sportsmen
The New York Post is the closest thing we have to cheeky British tabloid journalism today. It’s worth looking at — for a New Yorker like me, anyway — as its front page often captures the hyperbole of these often hyper-partisan times.

...G&A 2014 Optic of the Year: Leupold Mark 6 3-18×44 TMR
This was Guns & Ammo’s “do everything” scope in 2014. Ranging in price between $2,750 for one with a MIL DOT to $5,625 for a Mark 6 with an illuminated TREMOR 2 reticle, this optic had to overcome the fact that most readers won’t be spending this kind of money for our award winner.
...G&A 2014 Rifle of the Year: Ruger American Revolution
The rifle itself was a new product in 2012, garnering many awards. For 2014, this rifle was offered with a quality Redfield Revolution 3-9X riflescope. It printed sub-1-inch groups out of the box for only a $679 retail. The scope usually goes for $250, and the rifle is advertised for $450 without the optic, so this package is saving everyone a handful of bucks if you had to buy them separately (and you’d still have to buy rings and then mount the scope). Like most products, actual street price is lower than MSRP. Expect to find these in the neighborhood of $500 to $550. Here’s what else we considered.
...G&A 2014 Shotgun of the Year: Benelli Ethos
Unveiled at the 2014 SHOT Show surrounded by the tune of violins racing to the sound of a motorcyle speeding across a salt-flat test track, the Ethos has since lived up to its initial fanfare at the range and in the field. It’s one of the most classy, yet technologically advanced shotguns Guns & Ammo has ever tested.
...G&A 2014 Handgun of the Year: Heckler & Koch VP9
Guns & Ammo received its first two samples of the HK VP9 during the third week of June. We’re still shooting them. A midyear introduction, the VP9 was immediately well received by several other gun publications and media outlets on the Web who continue to join this magazine in praising these pistols for long-term reliability, sustained accuracy and, most important, overall value. Although we recognize that HK once offered a striker-fired pistol (VP70, 1970–1984), the striker-fired VP9 was largely considered a departure from the company’s more recent hammer-fired lineup. Additionally, several other value-added features work in its favor for recognition as Handgun of the Year.
