March 2016 Gun & Gear Contests

Mon, 03/07/2016 - 15:41

At the risk of reducing my own chances to win, http://www.weapon-blog.com/contests/ has been updated with all the gun and gear related contests that I am aware of for the month.

Go forth and win… As always, feel free to share wherever you can.

I really need your help. The list is a bit lean this month. If you are aware of any that are not on the list, please use the contact form to get it added to the list.

GunVault GVB1000 Security Flaw

GunVault GVB1000 from Handgun Safe Research on Vimeo.

California DOJ Approved

This handgun safe, called the Minivault Biometric, features the same release-wire locking mechanism found in the GV1000S. The main difference between the two safes is that this one has a fingerprint reader. Though it is a fancier, more expensive device, the GVB1000 is no more secure than the less expensive model; the mechanical components of the locking mechanism are accessible through holes in the side of the safe. To learn more about the engineering problems I’ve uncovered in a variety of handgun safes, see the Discussion page at http://www.handgunsaferesearch.com.

Wow, he is fast! From what I gather, this is training with Taran Butler (Taran Tactical Innovations) in preparation for the sequel to John Wick.

2A Is Not #2

At Thursday’s Republican debate, Marco Rubio suggested that the Second Amendment is second because the founders saw it as the second most important right in the Bill of Rights. “It’s the constitutional right of every American to protect themselves and their families,” Rubio said. “It is the Second Amendment for a reason.”

This is wrong. The amendments are actually in the order they’re in to align with the articles of the Constitution.

Close Call

Wed, 03/02/2016 - 13:15

1) Not treating the firearm with the respect due to a weapon capable of causing bodily harm and/or death
2) Not treating the firearm as loaded
3) Not keeping finger off trigger until ready to fire
4) Not being sure of your target (and what is beyond it)
5) Not being willing to destroy what the firearm is pointed at

The most important lesson here is that you can’t force stupid people not to obey rules…

Sen. Sanders Calls For Non-Hunting Guns To Be Outlawed

Mon, 02/29/2016 - 08:03

“I believe that we need to make sure that certain types of guns used to kill people, exclusively, not for hunting, they should not be sold in the United States of America, and we have a huge loophole now with gun shows that should be eliminated.”

Hearing Protection Act (HR 3799) Gaining Steam In Congress

Fri, 02/26/2016 - 13:11

After 82 years, it looks like one bi-partisan bill may finally remove firearm suppressors from the National Firearms Act regulation.

Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ) introduced the Hearing Protection Act in Congress last October along with 10 co-sponsors. Since then, it has become one of the most viewed bills in Congress. HR 3799 picked up the support of Rep. Charles Fleischmann (R-TN) last week, bringing it’s total number of co-sponsors to 50; 49 Republicans and 1 Democrat.

The bill’s intent is to amend the Internal Revenue code to remove a $200 transfer tax on the purchase of silencers and “treat any person who acquires or possesses a firearm silencer as meeting any registration or licensing requirements of the National Firearms Act.”

Fundamental Right To An AR-15

Fri, 02/05/2016 - 12:11

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit has ruled that Americans have a “fundamental right” to so-called assault weapons, a major victory for gun rights.

A three judge panel ruled that Maryland’s Firearm Safety Act of 2013, ban against what the court called “the vast majority of semi-automatic rifles commonly kept by several million American citizens”, is a blunt violation of the Second Amendment to the Constitution.

Today we stop and pay tribute to Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield, who on this day, three years ago were taken from us suddenly. Chris and Chad were a true inspiration to many. Chris lived his life by focusing on God, Country and Family. Here at the Foundation, we are working to keep his legacy alive through assisting our military and first responders by those same values. Rest in Peace Chris. Forever in our hearts 1974-2013

Navajo Code Talker Alfred James Peaches Dies at Age 90

Fri, 01/29/2016 - 14:05

Flags will be lowered across the Navajo Nation in honor of another Navajo Code Talker who has died.

Tribal officials announced Wednesday that Alfred James Peaches died last Saturday at a Flagstaff hospital at age 90.

Tribal President Russell Begaye commended Peaches for defending the United States in World War II, using a code based on the Navajo language that stumped the Japanese.

Born in Shonto, Arizona, Peaches was among hundreds of Navajos who served as Code Talkers. He was part of the 6th Marine Division from 1943 to 1946.

Peaches is survived by his wife Jeanette, two sons, two daughters, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service is scheduled Saturday at Leupp First Presbyterian Church.

Begaye has ordered flags flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday.
