This Summer in Chicago Won’t Be the ‘Summer of Joy’ Lori Lightfoot is Predicting

Thu, 06/09/2022 - 14:00

Shades of Jenny Durkin’s Summer of Love. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has looked into her Windy City crystal ball and divined that “This summer will be the summer of joy.” But from the looks of the first unofficial summer holiday, the upcoming summer in Murder City, USA is going to be anything but joyful.

You would have thought the city would have been more prepared after the “North Avenue beach takeover” a couple of weeks ago.

Mother Tells Congress Gun Control Laws Didn’t Save Her Son Because They…Do…Not…Work [VIDEO]

Thu, 06/09/2022 - 13:00

From the DC Project . . .

Lucretia Hughes Klucken, a DC Project Delegate from Georgia, was the only pro-gun voice providing testimony in the June 8 hearing before the United States House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Reform: The Urgent Need to Address the Gun Violence Epidemic. On behalf of the DC Project, a nationwide organization of women committed to safeguarding the Second Amendment, she called on Congress to ban gun-free zones and challenged the premise that adding more gun control measures will keep Americans and those most vulnerable among us, our children, safe.

Why Public Officials Should Never Be Able to Decide Who Gets a Concealed Carry Permit

Thu, 06/09/2022 - 12:00

Last week, a candidate for Sheriff in San Diego made some controversial comments about the bathrooms transgender people use. The ensuing media coverage and social media discussion, as well as statements by public officials, all focused on what he said, but one of the more forward-looking LGBT groups identified the real problem . . .

"Hemmerling said, however, in a statement to KPBS that he retired not because of the video, but to concentrate on his campaign.

Never Forget the True Intent of the Second Amendment (Spoiler Alert – It Isn’t Hunting)

Thu, 06/09/2022 - 10:00

By Brandon Williamson

The founders didn’t know we’d have guns like AR15s.
The Second Amendment is about the militia.
Weapons of war have no place in civilian hands.

These and other arguments from the left are often used to justify stripping you of your right to keep and bear arms, but they are all incorrect and easily dismissed with just a little historical knowledge.

Murphy: Florida’s Post-Parkland Bill is the Model for a Senate Gun Control Compromise

Thu, 06/09/2022 - 08:00

Murphy added: “The possibility of success is better than ever before. But I think the consequences of failure for our entire democracy are more significant than ever.”

Florida, a Republican-controlled state, acted swiftly after the murders of 17 students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in February 2018, passing red flag laws and raising the age requirement for buying, but not owning, firearms from 18 to 21, among other steps.

Gun Meme of the Day: Educated Arguments Edition

Wed, 06/08/2022 - 18:00

The anti-gun side knows less about what they seek to regulate than I do about what’s on the other side of a black hole. Presumably, though, that’s where I’ll find “the shoulder thing that goes up.”

Would-Be Assassin Was Worried Justice Kavanaugh Would Loosen Gun Control Laws

Wed, 06/08/2022 - 15:00

Nicholas John Roske, the armed man who was arrested outside Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s house early this morning, said he’d been thinking about how to give his life purpose. After cogitating on that for an unknown amount of time, he decided that killing Justice Kavanaugh and then himself would accomplish that lofty goal.

Most of the publicity about Roske’s aborted attempt on Kavanaugh’s life has centered on the aspiring assassin’s anger over Justice Alito’s leaked draft opinion in Dobbs v.

Sorry, Axon, We Already Have the Technology We Need to Stop School Shooters

Wed, 06/08/2022 - 14:00

A recent post by Axon CEO Rick Smith  argues that drones armed with less lethal weapons — like, for instance TASERs — could be a good way to protect schools as an alternative to going after gun rights. While I can appreciate where the post is coming from and think emerging technologies could be part of the answer, it’s important to not pretend that we don’t already have good solutions to this problem.

Before I point out some of Smith’s glaring errors, I want to point out that I can appreciate the desire to use technology to navigate around a political impasse.

Don’t Tell Joe: A Federal Government Study Showed 1994 ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban Didn’t Reduce ‘Gun Violence’

Wed, 06/08/2022 - 12:00

By Jonathan Miltimore

Do something.

This is a response—and perhaps a natural one—to a human tragedy or crisis. We saw this response in the wake of 9/11. We saw it during the Covid-19 pandemic. And we’re seeing it again following three mass shootings—in Buffalo, New York, Uvalde, Texas, and Tulsa Oklahoma—that claimed the lives of more than 30 innocent people, including small children.

In this case, the “something” is gun control.

A Modest Proposal: Tax Ammo at a Benjamin for Each Round

Wed, 06/08/2022 - 08:00

In America, economic solutions often triumph over moral crusades.

So, let’s change the conversation and make this about money.

Not about guns, but about bullets.

Specifically, a Benjamin per bullet.

A Benjamin per EACHY and EVERY bullet.

Let’s put a federal tax of $100 on every instance when any entity in America makes or imports anything that can be used as a round of ammunition in any multi-round weapon.

Gun Review: SIG SAUER P320 XCompact 9mm Pistol

Tue, 06/07/2022 - 16:00

I must admit that when the SIG P320 first came out I found it rather uninspiring. Yet another striker-fired, polymer-framed 9mm pistol. The fire control unit (FCU) concept was novel, but of course there wasn’t yet much aftermarket to support the existence of it.

Fast forward to today and the P320 line of pistols has expanded tremendously (now 23 options including a stand-alone FCU) and the aftermarket community has rapidly grown with SIG’s support.

Parkland Father Calls on Gun Owners to Head to the Range to Support the 2A

Tue, 06/07/2022 - 14:00

By Matt Manda

There’s a growing chorus for strict gun control following the tragic murders in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas, where deranged individuals took the lives of innocent Americans.

Ryan Petty isn’t among them, though some might expect him to be. Petty’s 14-year-old daughter Alaina was murdered in the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School tragedy. Instead of blaming gun owners that follow the law, he’s inviting them and others with a call-to-action of his own: Go to the range, practice and show your support for the Second Amendment.

Kate Steinle’s Killer Sentenced to Time Served in San Francisco

Tue, 06/07/2022 - 12:00

From the AP . . .

A California federal judge on Monday sentenced the Mexican man acquitted of murder in the 2015 shooting death of a woman on a San Francisco pier to the seven years he’s already spent in jail — bringing to a legal close the case that ignited a national firestorm over immigration, crime and sanctuary cities.

Jose Inez Garcia Zarate was in the U.S. illegally when Kate Steinle, 32, was fatally shot along a crowded Pier 14 where she was walking with her father and a family friend.

Keane: The Firearm Industry Wants Serious Discussions, Not Political Theater

Tue, 06/07/2022 - 10:00

Some politicians in Washington, D.C., are trying to pass meaningful legislation that would help prevent future atrocities, following the tragic murders in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas. Others, unfortunately, prefer to bluster.

NSSF, the firearm industry trade association, will work with those in Congress who are dedicated to serious, sober, thoughtful and deliberate discussions to address measures to prevent these tragedies. There can be no more inappropriate moment for political theater.

The firearm industry is – and always has been – ready to work for Real Solutions that make our communities safer.

Finally, the Commonsense Gun Control Compromise We Really Need

Tue, 06/07/2022 - 08:00

Here is my proposed gun control compromise following the latest attack on children that millions of us did not commit. Ready? You gun fascists can kiss my Schumer and we keep our guns. In fact, let’s also repeal the National Firearms Act and impose national constitutional carry. I think this compromise fairly balances our respective legitimate interests regarding guns. Our legitimate interest is maintaining the capacity to deter and defeat tyrants and criminals. Your legitimate interest in limiting our ability to do so is non-existent.

Gun Meme of the Day: Lower Receiver Pride Edition

Mon, 06/06/2022 - 18:00

Trying to ban AR-15s is now officially homophobic. Any time somebody suggests restricting or banning them I’m now replying with shock and disgust and accusing that person of being a racist and a homophobe. Also transphobic if I can’t transition my AR to different calibers by swapping tops on the same bottom.
