Things That Don’t Suck: Shield Arms S-15 Magazines for GLOCK Pistols

Thu, 09/30/2021 - 13:00

I wasn’t exactly impressed when GLOCK released the G43X and the G48 series pistols. I never doubted they were well-made, reliable guns that shot true and provided great concealed carry firearm options. GLOCK does GLOCK things, and they do them well.

The thing is, we now live in the age of the SIG P365 (and the Hellcat, the Shield Plus and the MAX-9), and the slimline GLOCKs were released after the P365.

Federal Judge Rules Washington, DC is Liable for Post-Heller Wrongful Firearm Arrests

Thu, 09/30/2021 - 09:00

Dick Heller is probably laughing to himself today. Late yesterday, US District Judge Royce Lamberth ruled that Washington, D.C. is liable for six wrongful arrests made in the years after the D.C. vs Heller Supreme Court decision was handed down. The individuals in question were arrested between 2012 and 2014 for carrying handguns in public.

The city, which had the strictest gun control laws in the nation, didn’t like the Court’s ruling and enacted new restrictions on carrying firearms in the capital.

RAAFA: Training New Gun Owners and Overcoming the Stigma of Black Gun Ownership

Thu, 09/30/2021 - 08:00

[Jasmine] Barksdale said fear kept her away from guns for most of her life, but joined RAAFA after learning about it from a friend. Now, she does community outreach for the group, dubbing herself a “2A person” — a “Second Amendment person.”

“Like basically most Black women,” Barksdale said, “I wasn’t raised in a home that was firearm-savvy.”

Barksdale said she was motivated to pick up a gun by a different kind of fear: Being a single mom of an 8-year-old daughter.

FBI Data Shows Armed Citizens Killed More Armed Criminals Than Police in 2020

Wed, 09/29/2021 - 17:54

From the CCRKBA . . .

The FBI Uniform Crime Report for 2020 indicates that armed private citizens killed more criminals during the commission of a felony last year than were killed by police, and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms says this data clearly underscores the continuing need for American gun ownership.

“We looked at Tables 14 and 15 in the FBI’s new report that apply to justifiable homicides by law enforcement and private citizens, respectively,” noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb.

Emboldened Criminals, Pandemic Stress, and a Police Legitimacy Crisis Created the 2020 Homicide Spike

Wed, 09/29/2021 - 16:00

By Justin Nix, University of Nebraska Omaha

Homicides in the U.S. spiked by almost 30% in 2020.

That was the main takeaway from figures released on Sept. 27, 2021, by the FBI that showed almost uniform increases across America in the murder rate.

The fact that big cities, small cities, suburbs and rural areas – in both blue and red states – experienced similar increases in homicides suggests that nationwide events or trends were behind the rise.

3 Things You Should Expect From a Good Concealed Carry Class

Wed, 09/29/2021 - 12:00

A “conceal and carry class” is a common term that generally refers to the class required before a person can obtain their license or permit to carry. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the requirements for what a conceal and carry class must contain, or whether you even need to take a class to obtain your permit, vary depending on the state in which you live.

So, while “conceal and carry class” is a common phrase, the phrase itself doesn’t really tell you much about what is taught in most of these classes.

Graham: More People Carrying Guns Results in a Feedback Loop of Increasing Violent Crime

Wed, 09/29/2021 - 08:00

One factor in the shocking increase in violence is very clear: “The rise in violence in 2020 appears to be almost entirely a rise in gun violence, rather than a more general increase in all forms of crime,” the Princeton sociologist Patrick Sharkey wrote to me in an email.

In an average year, guns account for roughly two-thirds of American homicides, but in 2020, 77 percent of murders were shootings.

Lever-Action Ballistics Comparison: .30-30 vs .357 Magnum

Tue, 09/28/2021 - 12:00

By Chris Dumm

Elmer Keith, Phillip B. Sharpe, Colonel D. B. Wesson developed the .357 Magnum cartridge in 1934. The first of the ‘Magnum’ pistol cartridges, it was a big hit. Literally. While there’s still some debate over the cartridge’s ability to create hydrostatic shock, if you’re looking for a highly effective, commonly available handgun caliber for self-protection, .357 is a perfectly defensible choice.

Handgun hunters use the cartridge to take game up to the size of small deer.

Levi Strauss Blames Lawful Gun Owners for ‘Gun Violence’ in Communities of Color

Tue, 09/28/2021 - 10:00

By Larry Keane

There once was a day when a pair of jeans just felt good to put on. There was no pretense. No drama. Just a good fit for hard work or a casual day. It’s almost quaint when the trouser label just meant comfort and not a political antigun agenda.

Levi Strauss & Co. reminded the world that they’re not just a clothing company. They’re the fashion of woke gun control.

Sklansky: Lenient Criminal Justice Policies Have Nothing to Do With the Jump in Violent Crime

Tue, 09/28/2021 - 08:00

It’s not clear exactly why homicides have spiked in the United States during the pandemic. The same thing hasn’t happened in the United Kingdom or elsewhere in Europe, and there are cities in the United States that have bucked the trend as well.

Some of the nationwide increase in killings over the past 18 months may have to do with the disruption of social services, which were already thinner here than across the Atlantic.

Gun Meme of the Day: Letter of the Law Edition

Mon, 09/27/2021 - 18:00

I mean, none of my weapons have ever assaulted anyone anyway. Well, except for that one time I held a police officer at shotgun point. Anyway, “assault” is a verb, which is one reason the anti-gun types have had such a hard time using it to define a type of firearm.

Truefire is Marketing a ‘Smart’ Weapon Lock to LEOs for AR-15s

Mon, 09/27/2021 - 16:00

Here comes another “smart gun” device that wants to disrupt the firearms business and bring fast, reliable safety technology to the masses. Truefire LLC has developed a patented elctronic firearm locking system that’s activated either by fingerprint, RFID, or a mechanical key.

Truefire’s lock replaces a standard grip on an AR-15 rifle. The lock disables the rifle via a locking bar that’s positioned behind the trigger, preventing an unauthorized user from pulling it.
