The Gun Rights Movement Is Far Bigger Than Any One Organization

Sun, 06/13/2021 - 08:00

The NRA is far from the only pro-gun group at the table in state legislatures now. In Utah, one of the first states to remove permit requirements this year, it was just one of at least six gun rights groups speaking in favor of the bill at the Capitol — and it wasn’t the most outspoken one.

The number of generally pro-gun rights states outnumbers those that pass gun control measures 40 to 10, although the latter have more people, so the country’s population is about evenly divided between the two camps.

Colorado School Shooter Planned to Kill His Accomplice, Look Like a ‘Hero’

Sat, 06/12/2021 - 17:00

From the Associated Press . . .

One of the suspects in a fatal attack at a suburban Denver high school in 2019 had become such a chronic drug user in the months before the shooting that he likely “couldn’t think, concentrate or understand” events around him that day, a toxicologist called by the defense testified Friday.

Toxicologist Wanda Guidry said Devon Erickson was severely malnourished because he ingested cocaine, marijuana and cough syrup nearly daily, and he suffered from long-term sleep deprivation and insomnia, The Denver Post reported.

The Failure of Bill de Blasio: Crime Becomes an Issue in New York City Electoral Politics Once Again

Sat, 06/12/2021 - 13:00

How much crime will New Yorkers accept before they actually demand that criminals do jail time and laws are enforced in their city again? We may be about to find out. Eight years of rule under a social justice uber alles mayor whose default presumption is that the criminal justice system is irredeemably racist and every accused criminal is a failure of a white supremacist society has finally had its inevitable effect.

Like so many other large urban areas, New York has been conducting an experiment in anti-policing over the last year and a half.

Fri, 06/11/2021 - 18:00

Can you see the sights on your pistol? That question is an important one for those of us who carry handguns. When you begin to consider all the repercussions of a defensive encounter, from legal to moral, it makes an even bigger difference if the answer is ‘no.’

With poor vision plaguing many of us as we get older, it becomes more and more important to focus on finding EDC sights we can see.

The ATF’s Pistol Brace Regulation Comment Period Has Begun…Here’s What You Can Do

Fri, 06/11/2021 - 15:40

From SB Tactical . . .

With the release of its Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has left little doubt to its intention to wreak havoc on millions of American firearm owners and devastate the firearms industry through lost jobs and revenue.

The Congressional Research Service estimates that there are somewhere between 10 million and 40 million firearms in circulation with Pistol Stabilizing Braces.

Gun Industry Pulls Out All the Stops in Opposing David Chipman as ATF Director

Mon, 06/07/2021 - 08:00

Gun groups will need to sway at least one Democrat in the 50-50 Senate to defeat Chipman’s nomination. NSSF is trying to dissuade Democratic senators from supporting Chipman by making the case that his confirmation would lead to the politicization of ATF.

“It would set a very bad precedent for ATF as an organization, because I think it would be highly likely that a Republican administration would then nominate somebody for the position from the [gun] industry or the National Rifle Association,” Keane said.

A Sign of Things to Come? Gun Control Bill Fails to Pass in California

Sun, 06/06/2021 - 15:00

As we mentioned yesterday, firearm sales — in particular handguns — in California and nationally shattered all records over the past year. Furthermore, a huge portion of these purchases were made by first-time gun buyers, the majority of whom were female and/or minorities.

Shocked as so many blue state residents were to find that, despite what the politicians have been telling them, one cannot simply buy a gun online or walk into a gun store and walk out with a gun that same day.

New From Strike Industries: AR Flat Top Overmolded Pistol Grip (15-Degree)

Sun, 06/06/2021 - 12:00

The new AR Flat Trop Overmolded Pistol Grip from Strike Industries appears to check all the boxes of what I generally prefer in an AR-15 grip: grippy rubber overmold, steep angle, a bit zaftig in the palm, and no beavertail. Plus, they’ve used a Black Collar Arms Pork Sword Pistol in some of their product photos and social media spots, so obviously I’m all grins there. Yes, I’m leveraging this press release to shamelessly plug my own products.

It’s Almost As If Criminals Don’t Follow the Law: Quote of the Day

Sun, 06/06/2021 - 10:00

— From The Journal News: Some Butler County lawmakers don’t see gun reform as the answer to gun violence

Gun Review: Laugo Arms Alien Signature Edition Pistol

Thu, 06/03/2021 - 16:00

By William Collier

This is not a gun review in the usual sense. This one is more along the lines of watching ‘Top Gear’ to see the latest Ferrari weighed against the newest Koenigsegg, and to watch someone complain about the dimensions of the cupholders in a million-dollar hypercar.

We will assess the Laugo Alien pistol to determine — if one is in the habit of making foolishly extravagant financial decisions — just how foolish this one might be.

Here’s where it stands now.

The ‘May Issue’ Ignorance of LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva

Vice Smears Opposition to Chipman Nomination as Crazy, Far Right Militia Conspiracy

Thu, 06/03/2021 - 08:00

Since he was nominated, Chipman has suddenly become the face of a largely faceless agency that’s been locked in a decades-long cold war with the gun lobby and GOP, which has simmered pretty much since the ATF was made responsible for regulating firearms in America in 1968. The beleaguered agency has withstood abolition attempts by Republican presidents, been blocked from modernizing (for example, to this day, it relies on paper records to track firearm sales, since it’s been blocked from upgrading to modern systems), and hit with other rules that rendered it ineffective, as the New York Times recently laid out.

Politics Kills Texas Knife Law Reform Bill

Wed, 06/02/2021 - 16:00

From Knife Rights . . .

Knife Rights’ bipartisan Knife Law Reform bill, HB 956, which was passed by the Texas House by an overwhelming vote of 142 – 2 and which passed the Senate last session, was allowed to die in the Texas Senate without a vote as their regular session ended.

HB 956 would have removed from statute a number of places where Location-Restricted Knives (having blades over 5 1/2 inches) are banned, including restaurants and bars that derive 51% of their income from sale or service of alcoholic beverages, amusement parks and places of religious worship.

As demand for the Covid vaccine has begun to wane among those who still haven’t gotten the jab, cities and states have begun to employ incentives to coax reluctant holdouts into joining the ranks of the inoculated. Massachusetts is handing out $25 grocery gift cards.  Ohio is giving away the equivalent of a lottery ticket. The state’s Vax-A-Million giveaway is paying a few select vaccine recipients $1 million.
