Overcoming the Fear of Guns Leads to Empowerment Over Fears of Sex Offenders

Mon, 04/08/2024 - 13:00

Roughly a dozen years ago I met a woman Adrienne. Like many young women, she feared guns because she didn’t understand them and had years of mostly negative “education” about them from American media and pop culture. As a stay-at-home housewife, she cared for her three young daughters while her husband worked a half-hour away.

One day in the summer, a creepy man showed up at her rural home riding a bike. Seeing the mom and her three daughters, he rather insistently asked for a glass of water.

Justice Department to Challenge Ruling on Rights of Illegals to Possess Firearms

Mon, 04/08/2024 - 12:05

Politics, and now court rulings, it seems certainly make for strange bedfellows. In a move most conservatives and pro-gun organizations likely agree with, Biden’s Justice Department will challenge a recent court decision affirming the Second Amendment rights of undocumented immigrants. This move escalates a complex debate that to many Americans on both sides of the gun issue defies logic, while spotlighting two cases that have the potential to reshape long-standing federal firearm regulations and even other aspects of immigration law.

Missouri House Attempts to Outlaw Stupid

Mon, 04/08/2024 - 09:29

Not sure if this one slid under the radar or we just missed it, but back in late February, mere weeks after a high-profile shooting during the Super Bowl celebration parade for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Missouri House of Representatives passed a law banning celebratory gunfire into the sky in city limits.

And while we’ve all seen people on television fire guns into the city sky to celebrate or heard it ourselves, it doesn’t take but half a brain to understand what goes up, must come down and those bullets can come down causing damage, injury or even death.

St. Louis Apartment Dweller Shoots Naked Man in Self-Defense

Mon, 04/08/2024 - 07:00

What’s worse than a dude breaking into your home? Could be a naked dude breaking into your home.

Fox 2 now in St. Louis is reporting a resident was forced to shoot a man breaking into his apartment in the middle of the afternoon Friday, April 5.

Police told the news station the suspect “broke through the wall” of the victim’s apartment. He didn’t bust through a window, which might have been easier; he didn’t kick down a door, the modus operandi of gang bangers and SWAT teams alike.

UPDATED: Hot Cop Turned Influencer Shot Down In Lawsuit Against LAPD

Sun, 04/07/2024 - 21:35

(UPDATE: This story, which originally ran yesterday has been updated to include a video at the end, which shows the referenced shooting by Officer McBride of a knife-wielding man. It is shared to provide better context to the insinuations presented by Los Angeles City Attorney Aneta Freeman in an L.A. Times article. See the end of the story for the full video.)

In the steamy streets of Los Angeles, where the sun blazes as fiercely as the public’s opinions on the Second Amendment, Officer Toni McBride was serving looks and justice – until she decided to take aim at the LAPD with a lawsuit that has since misfired.

Guns We Love: The Heritage Rancher .22

Sun, 04/07/2024 - 15:58

The concept of a “truck gun” isn’t much different than a saddle scabbard rig more than 100 years ago. It’s basically a utility long gun that’s easily carried and deployed for any number of reasons. One carbine I’ve been carrying around the farm lately is Heritage’s Rough Rider .22.

Rats, snakes and mice, oh my!

Cleaning up hay fields at the end of summer with a rotary mower to remove some noxious weeds like broom sedge before it produces seeds is an every-year event.

Changing Make-Up of State Game Commissions Could Limit Firearms-Related Recreation

Sat, 04/06/2024 - 08:00

Today’s state wildlife agencies are changing. Some critics might call it metastasizing and it could spell trouble ahead for the hunting traditions Americans have enjoyed for centuries.

Colorado’s Parks and Wildlife Commission (CPW) recently confirmed two new appointees to the state agency that oversees and administers hunting and wildlife regulations. The concern is that these new commissioners have anti-hunting activist backgrounds. Both were confirmed by Colorado’s Senate after being nominated by Gov. Jared Polis.

A Front Row Seat to History—D.C. vs. Heller

Fri, 04/05/2024 - 15:00

On March 18, 2008, the Second Amendment hung in the judicial balance. That morning, the U.S. Supreme Court would hear oral arguments in District of Columbia v. Heller. The question was stark: is the Second Amendment “right to keep and bear Arms” an ordinary individual right? Or would the Court hold that the Second Amendment right is so feeble that the District of Columbia’s handgun ban could be upheld?

The lead attorney, Alan Gura, had initiated the case since 2002.

Self-Defense Fact vs. Fiction: Drag Them Inside

Fri, 04/05/2024 - 13:00

Myths are a part of any field of interest and shooting and self-defense are no exception. In fact, a number of myths have been repeated so often they’re treated as fact by a lot of gun owners and self-defense-minded people. Don’t fall into a legal trap and know what you can legally do and not do.

Myth: If you shoot someone in your yard, drag them into the house.

“This is a terrible idea!” attorney Gilbert Ambler says.

Bias Against Guns Continues Its AI Spread

Fri, 04/05/2024 - 09:15

If you can’t change the facts, change the public’s perception of the facts.

Anti-gun politicians whose constituents express concerns about crime and public safety respond with the narrative that it’s a gun problem rather than a problem of lawbreakers and criminals, a message that is amplified and reinforced by an accommodating mainstream media. The national media’s hostility towards guns and the Second Amendment is so widespread that a recent Washington Post article that wasn’t markedly anti-gun became the subject of an NRA-ILA grassroots alert.

No One Likes Biden…On Guns or Much Else

Fri, 04/05/2024 - 07:30

President Joe Biden and his re-election campaign team oddly continue to make his “successes” on “gun violence” a top messaging priority as the 2024 campaign begins to ramp up. At speeches, the president bellows “We’re not done yet!” and vows to “continue the job” of implementing more gun control restrictions that only penalize law-abiding Americans and are ignored by criminals.

He launched a new White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, staffed by former gun control activists, and his administration continues to bludgeon and suffocate lawful firearm retailers under “zero tolerance.” President Biden did, after all, call the firearm industry “the enemy” when he launched his campaign for the presidency in 2019.

Despite Ineffectiveness, Chicago Holds More “Buyback” Charades

Wed, 04/03/2024 - 11:30

As most Truth About Guns readers are likely aware, so-called gun “buybacks” have proven ineffective at curtailing violent crime. But that doesn’t stop cities, counties and other government entities from continuing to hold these futile events.

Take Chicago, one of the most violent cities in the country, as an example. The Chicago Police Department recently held two such no-questions-asked events. The “buybacks” took in 229 firearms and 95 replica firearms for a whopping sum of $100 each.
