New Mexico Gun Laws Could Lead to Increase in Number of Concealed Carry Permits
In light of recent legislative changes in New Mexico, firearms rights advocates anticipate a surge in applications for concealed carry permits following the enactment of new gun control measures. According to an article by the Albuquerque Journal, the new laws, set to take effect on May 15, include a seven-day waiting period for most firearm purchases, an exemption for concealed carry permit holders, and restrictions on carrying firearms within a certain distance from polling places during elections, again with exemptions for those with concealed carry permits.
Despite Ineffectiveness, Chicago Holds More “Buyback” Charades
As most Truth About Guns readers are likely aware, so-called gun “buybacks” have proven ineffective at curtailing violent crime. But that doesn’t stop cities, counties and other government entities from continuing to hold these futile events.
Take Chicago, one of the most violent cities in the country, as an example. The Chicago Police Department recently held two such no-questions-asked events. The “buybacks” took in 229 firearms and 95 replica firearms for a whopping sum of $100 each.

The Third U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied a petition for a rehearing in the Second Amendment Foundation’s victory in a case challenging Pennsylvania statutes that prohibit law-abiding young adults from carrying firearms for self-defense and prevents them from acquiring a state license to carry (LTCF) because of their age. The case is known as Lara v. Evanchick.
The petition for an en banc rehearing had been filed by attorneys representing the Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police.

Anti-Gun Group Posts Pics of Female Shooters to Look Like They Are Pro Gun
This is the busiest time of year for professional shooter, wife, mother and Army veteran, Julie Golob. She is hosting classes and training hard for the upcoming competition season, which begins later this month. She did not have much time to devote to a controversy that surfaced last week, when her image and personal information were misappropriated for a social media post by the anti-gun group, 97Percent, as part of its campaign to gaslight the public into falsely believing it is a moderate pro-gun group.
More Mexican Gun Running Hijinx with the Biden Admin and ATF
There’s a sense of déjà vu all over again when it comes to the federal government shutting down efforts to put a halt to Mexican gun-running schemes.
U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) released a series of whistleblower documents that raise the ghosts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) ill-fated Operation Fast & Furious. That was the Department of Justice (DOJ) operation that allowed firearms to be illegally smuggled across the U.S.
Fun and Sun, but No Guns Mon: Loaded Mag in a Bag Costs American $22 Gs

Americans Disapprove Of Biden On Guns—And Most Other Issues
If you thought Americans strongly disapproved of the way President Joe Biden’s economy is working out, you ought to see what people think of the way he has handled the gun issue.
According to a recent survey by The Economist and YouGov, a full 52% of Americans disapprove of how Biden is handling economic issues. Breaking it down, 91% of Republicans, 55% of Independents and even 11% percent of Democrats aren’t too fond of the strangling consequences of “Bidenomics.” And by age, a majority of Americans over 30 disapprove of Biden’s economic performance.
Guest Column: Mexico Grows Bolder Thanks to Weak American Leadership & Laughable Courts
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador thinks he can do no wrong. After all, U.S. federal courts are turning over sovereignty to the Mexican head of state at the same time he’s issuing ultimatums to the United States and thumbing his nose at Texas.
U.S. District Judge Rosemary Marquez, of the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, ruled that a lawsuit brought by the Mexican government against five Arizona-based firearm retailers can proceed.
CHICAGO: Another Day, Another ‘Ceasefire’ ‘Anti-Violence’ Worker Busted on Gun Charges
The do-gooders in Illinois believe that if you hire enough felons to “interrupt” violence, somehow you’ll make the streets safer. Given that Murder City USA has kept that title for 12 years in a row now, one would think that smarter heads would prevail and the state legislature would vote to stop paying millions of taxpayer dollars to these foolish endeavors.
Yet each year, Gov. J.B. Pritzker signs off on scores of millions paid to these organizations like “CeaseFire” who employ ex-cons who will supposedly stop gang violence.

Michigan State Police Tweet Disparaging CCW Holders Draws Fire
A Michigan State Police Public Information Officer has found himself in the hot seat after a tweet quoting him making disparaging remarks about concealed pistol license holders appeared in recent days. F/Lt. Mike Shaw, a public information officer (PIO), made a statement that reflected very poorly on his agency. The MSP Second District PIO reportedly said:’
Here is another example of a CPL holder not being able to handle their emotions because traffic was slowed due to a crash.

Our friends at Franklin Armory hit us up the other day wanting to make sure TTAG visitors were among the first in the gun community to check out their new product announcement. Transforming the Noveske Ghetto Blaster
Noveske is a well known brand in the American 2A world, having made quite the reputation in the early 2000s for innovation and quality. In 2013 founder John Noveske died, and a huge portion of the surviving Noveske brain trust left the company shortly after. Rumors of a loss of quality have spread online, but is that the case or is it the lionization of an industry great?
In 2017 Noveske stirred a little controversy, releasing the Ghetto Blaster lineup of guns in conjunction with Q (of Honey Badger fame).

NRA Takes On Pennsylvania “Ghost Gun” Bill
When the Democrat-controlled Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed a measure earlier this week banning so-called “ghost guns,” they drew the ire of the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA).
“Since taking the Majority in 2023, House Majority Democrats have become a one-trick-pony,” ILA said in an action alert. “They went back to the well this week for more gun control.
“With all the issues facing the state, they are obsessed with election-year politics and the need to score cheap political points with their anti-gun base, which has an insatiable appetite for banning guns.”
The measure, HB 777, passed the House by a very close 104-to-97 vote.

Jesus & Guns: What Might the Lord Have to Say About Gun Ownership?
As today marks Good Friday for the Christians among us (and simply Friday for everyone else as I was reminded by one irate Jewish coworker years ago at NRA when I mistakenly wished her a Happy Easter), I thought despite our diverse audience, it might be interesting to see what the chattering class has to say about Jesus’ stance on firearms ownership and gun laws, since his name is so often invoked.
A basic web search surprisingly turned up quite a bit on the topic.
Kids & Guns: Balancing Readiness and Safety in the Home
Don’t let concerns of violence overshadow the need for creating a truly safe environment in your home.
Anyone who lives or works around firearms should strive to remain just a little bit paranoid about gun safety. The Irish attorney John Philpot Curran originated the quote, “The Price of Freedom is Eternal Vigilance” in 1790. While Curran was then referencing the election of the Lord-Mayor of London, this timeless truism applies to firearms in the Information Age as well.
