HOUSE BILL 4290: Bad instructors don’t pass go or collect $200. They go to jail.
by John Boch
House Representative Ed Sullivan, Jr. (R) called in recent days and explained his new House Bill 4290.
In a nutshell, it’s more or less a single-paragraph in length (why couldn’t more bills be like this one?) and says if you fraudulently certify someone has completed firearms training as required by Illinois law, you shall be convicted of a Class A misdemeanor and it’s non-probational. In other words, commit instructor fraud and you’re going to spend time in jail – up to 364 days, in fact.
You’ll also never again be an Illinois State Police-approved instructor. Ever.
Representative Sullivan said the bill was a pretty close to a sure thing to pass both chambers and be signed into law. Brandon Phelps, the downstate Democrat who introduced Michael Madigan’s authored Firearms Concea

Argue with a judge, spend time in jail.
Tell a judge “F-you”, spend a lot of time in jail.
Here’s a priceless three minute video for you.
It’s a little humorous watching a disrespectful, mouthy woman get her come-unpins. Skip the first minute to get to the meat of it.

<Epic reply to hoplophobic Grand Rapids, MI mayor
The gun-hating mayor of Grand Rapids, Michigan – a colossal jewel of brilliance – released an official statement to his city council in reaction to a peaceable citizen open carrying at a local government meeting in recent days.
Fair disclosure and warning: take a blood pressure pill before reading.
Since last we met as a City Commission – according to the online resource Wikipedia – there have been nine school shootings, and at least one movie theatre and one mall shooting in the United States. If that pace continues it will outstrip last year’s reported 31 school shootings. Since January 1, 2000, there have been a reported 119 school shootings in the (United States). How could we forget the 6-year-old boy in Flint who brought his uncle’s gun to school and killed his little 6-year-old classmate because, as he said, “I don’t like her.” . . .
In Grand Rapids there have been 23 reports of gunshots and three shooting victims since January 1.
There have been uncounted numbers of suicides by gun in the country since last we met, but, if averages hold up, then 1,119 people have turned their guns on themselves and taken their lives in the last three weeks. Just over half of all suicides are by gun.
There is estimated to be 310

Beretta doesn’t bluff: Moving production to Tennesseee
Beretta told Maryland’s state legislature that passage of anti-gun bills early last year would force the company to re-think their plans for growth and expansion in Governor Martin O’Malley’s state. “Berettas don’t bluff,” the Old Line State lawmakers were told.
The legislature passed a whole new raft of gun restrictions anyway.
Well, not only did Beretta cancel plans for growth and expansion in anti-gun Maryland, they announced their intention to move the whole kit and caboodle to Tennessee later this year.

GOOD GUYS HELPING VETS: “Wounded Wear”
In this time when some veterans assistance groups take in hundreds of millions in donations and spend precious little on the donors’ intended purpose, there’s an up and coming company called Wounded Wear that helps veterans with some of the psychological adjustments of returning home after being wounded in service.
Here’s an article about how and why the company was formed by a severely wounded US Navy SEAL.

Wounded Warriors Project “legal scam” kills off grassroots, all-volunteer “Help Indiana Veterans” group
The Wounded Warriors Project, a group that has been called a “legal scam” by veterans, has successfully killed off the all-volunteer Indiana veterans assistance group “Help Indiana Veterans”.
Why?
Because Dean Graham, the head of Help Indiana Veterans, called Wounded Warriors a scam because that so-called charitable organization spends but a few pennies on the dollar in grants to fund endeavors to actually benefit wounded servicemen and women, per their IRS Form 990 from 2011.
While in 2011 WWP gave away a little over $5 million in grants, that same year, they spent over $21 million on salaries and $67 million on fundraising and other expenses.
Dean Graham thought that was a fair definition of a scam and posted his opinion

State Journal-Register: Sangamon County Rifle Association has a new president
Nice coverage in the State Journal-Register on SCRA’s new head!
VIRDEN (State Journal-Register) — When Jim Butler decided 20 years as president of the Sangamon County Rifle Association was enough, he had his eye on Don Gwinn.
Every time it came up in conversation, Gwinn stayed noncommittal.
But last month, Butler officially stepped down, and Gwinn took his place.
A lifelong Virden resident, husband, father of three, recently retired volunteer emergency medical technician and a middle school teacher in Springfield, Gwinn, 35, has been involved in gun-rights activism for more than a decade.
In addition to being president of the SCRA, he sits on the board of Illinois Carry, an organization committed to advancing concealed carry in Illinois. He’s also a volunteer — a “people-wrangler,” he calls it — for Illinois Gun Owner Lobbying Day, where gun-rights supporters come from across th
Maryland Gov. O’Malley: “the actions we take may well prevent another tragedy like that in Newtown”
Well, guess how Maryland Governor Oh-Mao-Lee sold his litany of strict gun control initiatives in early 2013?
The threat of gun violence “will never go away,” O’Malley said, “but the actions we take may well prevent another tragedy like that in Newtown, Connecticut. . . . It is possible we can make a difference.”
And, Governor, it’s possible your state’s strict gun control was the reason this angry ex-boyfriend of one of the victims thought he could get away with murdering her and her new boyfriend without any meaningful resistance.

Three dead in Maryland “NO GUNS” mall attack
Apparently there were sales to die for as three people are dead after a crazed, bad man with evil in his heart and a gun in his hands barged into a posted “NO GUNS” mall in Maryland and killed two people dead before offing himself today.
The mall where it happened, The Columbia Mall, is a gun-free zone.
That sure worked pretty well, didn’t it?
Remember this the next time you think about whether or not you want to visit a high-risk “no gun” zone.
Proposed bill: Commit CCW instructor fraud, go to jail… We like the concept
Word has it there’s going to be a bill introduced early this coming session of the General Assembly to make it a Class A Misdemeanor for instructors fraudulently signing off on students who have not been trained to state-mandated minimums. The catch? It’s going to be a non-probational offense, meaning these instructors will not only lose their certifications, they will be spending from one to three hundred sixty-four days in jail.
We at Guns Save Life haven’t seen the formal language, but we support the basic premise behind the bill, and we’ll tell you why: There’s way too much fraudulent training happening as ethically challenged instructors cut corners, oftentimes grossly short-changing students. It needs to stop and being nice about asking instructors to do things properly hasn’t worked in most cases.
Want some examples?
Sure thing.

Philly’s ‘Goods for Guns’ Program Misused Grant Funds: DOJ
By Vince Lattanzio
(NBC10) – An audit has charged a Philadelphia gun buyback program, which provided grocery gift cards in exchange for weapons, misused more than $450,000 in grant funds from the federal government.
Philadelphia Safety Net (PSN) received $800,000 in grants from the U.S. Department of Justice to run its “Goods for Guns” program from July 2010 through March 2012. The program would hold events where Philadelphia Police would collect guns and, in return, Philadelphia Safety Net would provide $100 grocery store gift cards.

S&W says “Adios” to California semi-auto pistol market
S&W says “thanks, but no thanks” to silly California anti-gun regulations dealing with gun registries and microstamping. Even though California has the best looking Attorney General, according to President Barack Hussein Obama, that wasn’t enough to sway S&W.
By the way, where are all of the “War on Women” warriors decrying Obama’s comments about Harris? Hmm?
Hopefully S&W and its distributors will not sell to law enforcement or government agencies in California either.

Approved for Illinois CCW? Not so fast, pal.
The Illinois State Police’s implementation of the new Firearms Concealed Carry Act is working like a finely tuned, well-oiled machine it seems.

Sick of Justin Bieber? 20/20 to profile the Armed Citizen Project on Jan 31st

They are scheduled to run a profile of the Armed Citizen Project, the group that gives away shotguns to families in low-income, high-crime neighborhoods in an effort to make it a more law-abiding, polite neighborhood.
They’ve been doing this for a couple of years now and Guns Save Life is a proud supporter and partner group of sorts, working to bring the program to Illinois.
