The smart folks are leaving insanely crime-plagued Cook County
The smart ones who can afford it are saying, “Adios” to Cook County’s insanely high crime rates and silly nanny-state government regulations.
Sadly, that leaves plenty more who want to move out of one of the most violent counties in the nation.
(Crains) As the Great Recession churned job prospects for many, Cook County lost about 13,000 residents with six-figure household incomes to other places, despite the widely hyped revival of downtown housing and jobs.
Between 2007 and 2011, Chicago and its immediate suburbs also ended up with about 10,000 fewer residents with a bachelor’s degree or higher, even after accounting for new arrivals, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s first attempt to track population shifts by income and education at the county level.
KUBICEK: What, me worry? Why we should all prepare for emergencies
Why should we all strive to achieve a greater level of personal preparedness in our lives and that of our friends and local communities? Let me share this with you.
On February 11, 2014 James Clapper presented a Worldwide Threat Assessment report to Congress. The 32 page report discusses the level of threats which are currently aimed at the United States. Hopefully even a quick reading of this document will reinforce the desire you undoubtedly already have to prepare for the worst. Several days prior to the report he testified before Congress. Here is a very brief summation of those remarks:
(In addition to the Syrian conf
LA Times Editorial FAIL
The Los Angeles Times.
Long known as no friend of individual rights or the right to keep and bear arms.
Like petulant children, they offer up a screed lamenting the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals recognizing an individual right to bear arms outside of the four corners of one’s home.
The first line is all you need to read.
The rest is superfluous gas, much like impolite flatulence. Not that flatulence is ever polite, unless you’re a college frat boy in a drunken party.
Here it is. Read it and wince.
Even if you accept the notion that the 2nd Amendment confers an individual right to bear arms — a proposition we wish the Supreme Court had rejected — states should be able to place reasonable restrictions on that right in the interests of public safety.

Remington, Unions and Jobs: Tying things together.
New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo’s spokesman tried to put some water on the news that 2,000 jobs will be leaving New York State soon as Remington moves it’s Illion, NY facility for Alabama.
He posted a comment on Twitter trying to spin the news as untrue.
Yeah, Rich. You just keep telling yourself that, much like a toddler proclaiming something over and over in an effort to make it be true.
In a sense, we’ve discovered, it’s not as simple as “Bon Voyage!”. It’s
MISSOURI: Proving that those grassroots phone calls do work
From time to time here in Illinois, the NRA, the Illinois State Rifle Association and Guns Save Life urge our members, friends and fellow gun owners to call certain politicians to urge them to take a specific action on one or more bills.
We all try to be selective on which ones we ask you to call for as we don’t want to be the little boy that cried “wolf” too often.
Why?
We’ll tell you why: Those calls work.
They have worked here in Illinois, and in recent days, Missouri’s gun owners have given us a shining example of how they worked in the Missouri legislature as well.
See, Missouri was on the cusp of passing a nullification bill when a certain low-information, anti-gun legislator added a poison pill: a “lost or stolen” amendment that would penalize gun owners for failing to report a gun lost or stolen within an arbitrary period of time. (Sounds good, but what if the gun is stolen and you don’t know it?)
We’re winning… Oklahoma one step closer to guns in capitol building
Chicken Little types claim the sky is falling (or soon going to fall) when we allow card-carrying good guys to carry their guns.
They’ve said it about Florida when debating allowing concealed carry back in the 1980s. They said Florida would become the “Gunshine” state. Well, today, with over one million active permits, Florida has the lowest ever rate of firearm-related violent crime.
Oklahoma House approves guns in capitol
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma House committee on Tuesday approved measures designed to expand gun rights, including legislation that would allow residents with concealed weapons permits to bring their firearms into the State Capitol.
The House Judiciary Committee voted 9-6 for the measure and sent it to the House floor for debate and a vote. But opponents questioned the wisdom of authorizing residents to bri
NFL faces suit from MN cop groups on gun policy; Locally, concealed means concealed
The NFL (sometimes referred to as the National Felon League) has received harsh condemnation from police officers everywhere for their arbitrary policy prohibiting guns at football stadiums – even for off-duty cops.
We as everyday card-carrying good guys aren’t too pleased either.
It seems Minnesota cops are taking formal action. Good for them.
More locally, over at the Indianapolis Colts stadium, we know that guns aren’t prohibited in that facility by state law with a CCW permit. We also know that well-concealed guns make it in there on a regular basis – the worst they can do is ask you to leave. And frankly, after dark, bad guys are known to prowl that part of town, especially for those who don’t park nearby. There are plenty of not-so-well lit areas too.
JEPSEN: That uncomfortable hunk of metal
by Kent Jepsen
This kinds of stuff really annoys me. I initially thought this was a classic case of “irony,” but many would probably call it poetic justice.
GUN STUN: Gun control activist swears he forgot he was carrying gun while visiting school
(Daily Caller) - A Buffalo, N.Y. community activist who is well known locally for pushing for a highly restrictive 2013 gun control law has been arrested for — wait for it — carrying a gun illegally at a public elementary school.
The arrested gun-control advocate, Dwayne Ferguson, caused quite a scene at Harvey Austin Elementary School, reports local CBS affiliate WIVB.
At about 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, police acted on a pair of anonymous 911 tips. A battalion of cops quickly swarmed the school. The brigade included over a dozen
PEPSI: We didn’t do it!
Pepsi sent this to Robert Farago of The Truth About Guns after one of their eagle-eyed fans sent them a tip about Pepsico sponsoring Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly’s anti-gun gab-fest at the Aspen Ideas Festival.
It seems, taking their note on its face as valid and accurate, that Pepsico’s sponsorship of Giffords and Kelly’s Americans for Responsible Solutions was a great deal more limited than we initially believed.
For this we are grateful and cheerfully extend our apologies for being wrong on Pepsi’s level of support.
While we aren’t pleased that Pepsico supported AGS in any fashion, they clearly aren’t the money source behind AGS.
We think we’ll open a Gatorade to celebrate.
Freedom marches on…
Freedom marches on in the USA as the number of Americans living in “May Issue” states has dropped dramatically with the Peruta decision.
And thanks to Illinois last year, the “red” citizens – those living on non-issuing states – dropped to zero.
From the Volokh Conspiracy, now at the Washington Post:
The chart [above] shows how Shall Issue laws for the licensed carrying of firearms for self-defense have become the American norm.
As of 1986, slightly less than 10% of the U.S. population lived in states where there were objective and fair procedures for the issuance of concealed handgun carry permits. About a third of the population lived in states where there was not even a process to apply for a permit. The majority of the population lived in states where issuance in permits was highly discretionary, and many issuing authoriti
MAKING US PROUD: Mel Reynolds, gun hater extraordinaire, arrested in Zimbabwe
Our old buddy Mel Reynolds have found a way to get himself back in the news and to make us all proud to be from his home state.
What’s he been up to since he was indicted for sexual assault and criminal sexual abuse of a 16-year-old girl who was a campaign volunteer? And a did we mention he was also seeking out kiddie porn, too?
In the end, he was convicted of sexual assault and solicitation of kiddie porn and resigned. Then he went to prison for a while.
While the Rhodes Scholar pervert was in prison for those sex charges, he was convicted of additional fraud and corruption charges.
His sentences were commuted by another sexual predator and anti-gunner – Bill Clinton – in 2001.
He got himself arrested in Zimbabwe for not paying his hotel bill and for having porn in the hotel room.
What was Mel Reynolds doing in Zimbabwe?
Well, given his penchant for pubescent girls, we’re guessing he was there game hunting.

Tactical Rifles sues Snipers Hide, user over forum post of critical review
Sniper’s Hide, the online forum for true rifleman, is the subject of a lawsuit from custom riflemaker Tactical Rifles.net over a critical review by a forum member.
In short, a gent from Georgia bought an $8,602 M-40 rifle in 6.5 Creedmor.
You read that right. $8,602.
And here’s what he got.
That’s at 100 yards. 1.06″ roughly.
Now, before you say it wasn’t the gun, but the shooter.
IMPORTANT: New Illinois mental health reporting rules… Loose lips can cost your gun rights
With the passage of the new Firearm Concealed Carry Act, Illinois “Qualified Examiners”, physicians, clinical psychologists, school administrators and law enforcement official are required to report those who they believe pose a “clear and present danger” to themselves or others.
This does not have to involve firearms!
Under the FCCA, these mandated reporters are to report anyone within 24 hours who communicates a serious threat of physical violence against a reasonably identifiable victim – or who poses a clear and imminent risk of serious physical injury to himself, herself or another person. (For mor
Bloomberg’s MAIG/Moms Demand Action “School Violence Stats” farce
Thank you John Lott. Via FoxNews.
They claimed that 44 shootings occurred in schools and colleges nationwide since the Newtown, Conn. massacre on Dec. 14, 2012 and Feb. 10 of this year. Out of the 44 shootings, a total of 28 died. To dramatize their numbers, Bloomberg’s groups emphasized that one of these attacks occurred every 10 days.
But their statistics are not what they seem. Included in the numbers are suicides. Also included are late night shootings taking place in school parking lots, on their grounds or even off school property, often involving gangs. As “shootings,” they also include any incident where shots were fired, even when nobody was injured.
Look at some of the cases included in their misleadi
Happy ending: Armed robber warming up to sing soprano
From the “How did we miss this one!?” category (thank you Tom W!), we bring you the story of a thug in Portland, OR who robbed a man and then shot his victim in the leg before running off.
While running, he employed the “appendix inside the waistband carry” style of carrying – only Mexican style (sans holster) – at which time he had a holstering malfunction and blew some of his man-parts off.
And probably scorched whatever was left. That’s good though. Cauterizing slows the bleeding.
Oh yes, dear reader, it’s okay to chuckle. We’re chuckling quietly here.
Joseph Johnson, 40, faces charges for felon in possession of a firearm and armed robbery to add insult to his new castrato status. (Yes, technic
Legislative / CCW update: Don’t fall for the posturing…
The Illinois State Journal-Register had a big Sunday article about legislators not wanting to “wait and see” with the new concealed carry law.
Frankly, the article could have been titled, “Legislators posturing on new concealed carry law” and frankly, would have been more accurate.
Here’s a couple of bits from the story.
Lawmakers don’t want to ‘wait and see’ with concealed carryIllinois lawmakers are wasting no time in attempting to make changes to the state’s barely 7-month-old concealed-carry law, weeks before even the first batch of permits are sent out to approved applicants.

Win a Ruger LCRx, compliments of Pawn King in Urbana
Pawn King in Urbana, IL has graciously donated a Ruger LCRx (“x” for exposed hammer) as Guns Save Life’s April drawing gun at our Rantoul meeting.
The gun, in .38 Special caliber, is a nice carry piece for pockets or purse carry.
I’ve checked out the gun myself and for a factory Ruger, this specimen has a very nice trigger.
I confess. My name is John and I’m a trigger snob.
Life is too short for a lousy trigger and the vast majority of my self-defense pistols have had trigger jobs. You won’t need to have an action job done on this Ruger LCRx from Pawn King if you win it and you’re a trigger snob like me.
“Whoa! John! Wh
AWESOMENESS: Civilian Honor Flight over Arlington
Barack H. Obama has gutted the Air Force’s budget to the point where they can’t offer an honor flight for certain burial details at Arlington National Cemetery.
Allen West found this, and wrote, “For those of you who think Big Government has all the answers, just take a few minutes to watch this video. ”
He said it well.
Basically, two crewmen of a A-26 were shot down in a combat mission over Laos almost a half-century ago. The recently found the crash site and excavated it, and identified the bodies.
Recently they were given a burial at Arlington with full honors. Including a flyover performed by civilians.
Watch for the rest…
CLASSY: Olympic athlete says he’s no hero; Heroes wear camo
(For The Win) – T.J. Oshie was quickly labeled as one of the American heroes of the Sochi Olympics with his clutch performance against Russia on Saturday. In an interview with Pittsburgh Tribune-Review columnist Dejan Kovacevic, he said he believed otherwise. Heroes, he reportedly said (via Kovacevic’s Twitter), is a term that should be reserved for someone other than a hockey player.
Well said, young man.
Kudos, of course, to the American athletes at Sochi.
