Did Not Expect Something of That Size To Move So Fast
Moose, … get out da way! I think this pretty much sums up my worst nightmare.
Spring/Summer Food Plots
Deer season has been over for several months. Now squirrel, rabbit, and bird seasons are over, too. It’s time to go fishing and turkey hunting and forget about deer, right? Wrong! It’s possible that the spring and summer months are when your deer herds need you most. You can’t automatically assume you can just hang up your gear, and the deer will automatically become wall hangers next year. You have nutrients to deliver and bigger antlers to grow.
...One to Watch: ThruNite T10T
A few years ago, before emitters basically rendered the difference between AA/AAAs and lithiums irrelevant, there was a small batchof custom light that filtered through CPF called the DST. It was a 1xAA light with a screw-on clip and a metal tail cap. It looked quite good. There was another 1xAA light around that time as well called the Volere, from Steve Ku, one of the five or so finest custom makers in the world. Both lights captured my attention, but I was still too firmly in the lithium only camp. Since then, I have moved away from my flashlight battery orthodoxy, which, like all forms of orthodoxy, is impractical. I have learned to embrace the utility, low cost, and wide availability of the AA.
...Duds & Suds – Carhartt Teams With Michigan Beer Company for Celebratory New Brew
There are some brands that every outdoors enthusiast knows and recognizes. Only a few of them conjure up almost universally positive thoughts about their products – and even fewer of them have been in business for more than a century. Carhartt is one of those brands.
...Why You Should Consider a Fixed Blade for EDC
For many people, an EDC knife is a folder–a modern marvel or an old timey classic. But over the years I have come to appreciate the fixed blade EDC knife. There are real and important advantages a fixed blade has over a folder in the EDC role, but all too often these things are overlooked in favor of the cool factor a folder represents. Put down your bearing pivot flipper and Spydie hole blade for a second, and keep an open mind about carrying a small fixed blade.

I came across this post on reddit today and it makes for a great feel good story.
...Oklahoma Angler Catches 100-Pound Alligator Snapping Turtle
This week on Facebook we posted a photo of an Oklahoma angler who caught a 100-pound alligator snapping turtle.
Tulsa World reports that these turtles are not as common as they used to be in Oklahoma. They were extirpated from most of northeast Oklahoma and are currently the subject of reintroduction efforts. The turtles were diminished by people taking them for food and for the pet trade.
We found this video of a man digging for alligator snapping turtles to rescue and bring them to water.
Shell Bobbers by Fishing Ammo
Like many other folks, I first saw the Shell Bobber on the TV show Shark Tank, where folks try to get jillionaires to invest in their companies. The two guys who dreamed up the notion of using old shotgun hulls as fishing bobbers did a good job of presenting the product, and I liked the idea. Mark Cuban did, too, becoming an investor in their company, Fishing Ammo.

...Which Tree Stand is Right for You?
There are hundreds of different tree stand styles on the market today, all from different manufacturers offered at different prices. So how does the average hunter make a selection? It all depends on many factors and as you might already know, or will soon discover, you may often need more than one style depending on the property you are hunting.

KnifeTests.com Busse FBM Field Test
Once again, this week’s KnifeTests.com is less about destruction and more about testing the Busse FBM for outdoor use. The FBM–which is an acronym for “Fat Battle Mistress”–is a 16 in. long knife with a 10 in. blade. It doesn’t seem to be available through Busse’s store currently, but it is for sale through independent retailers or individuals.
