“Handgun Trigger Safety Act” Introduced in US Senate
What a load of crap. This bill was introduced today by Sen. Ed Markie (D) today. The bill calls to earmark money for “gun violence” research, as well as making all new handguns have technology that only allow them to be fired by their owner (because there is never a situation where someone else may want to shoot your pistol for a perfectly legitimate purpose). In addition to this, the bill would make selling a handgun illegal unless you retrofit it with personalization technology.
Guess what? These retrofit kits don’t exist, and neither does the technology to reliably allow a gun to only be fired by its owner.
Even more hilarious than trying to ban private gun sales by requiring them to have technology that doesn’t exist, is the fact that Markey references a James Bond movie as the reason for introducing the bill.

SC Constitutional Carry Killed
Looks like the SC Constitutional Carry Bill is dead. It got shot down last night on a 4-17 vote in the Senate committee where it has been for a while now. It’s unfortunate, hopefully after the 2014 midterm elections a similar bill will be resubmitted, and maybe then there will be some more support.
I’m disappointed about this, but it is exciting that the folks in SC gained restaurant carry recently, so at the very least things are moving in the right direction.

The Beginning of a Holster
I’ve had a hankerin’ for a black leather pancake holster for my XDs 9mm for a while now. They go on and off pretty easily, hold tight to the body, I find them really comfortable, and kydex pancake holsters suck. After doing some looking around online, I just can’t justify the price that comes with with nice leather these days, so I figured I may as well make a nice holster, and document the process for all of you.
Here’s the first step: rough outline to get an idea of what I want the holster to look like, and how I want it to ride. This should mimic the exact cant that I have on my Crossbreed MiniTuck, with a smidge higher ride height.
The next step will be a trip to the Tandy leather store here in Raleigh to get some leather, and possibly a stitch groover. I’ve made several leather holsters in the past without making a groove for the stitches, and they have all been fine for a long while, but I think I might try some
I’m at Bass Pro Shops in Cary
This place is pretty cool! First impressions:
- Way bigger than I was expecting when I walked in the door. Currently it must be the biggest sporting goods type store that we have in the Triangle. Much bigger than Gander Mountain.
- Small parking lot for such a big store.
- Not nearly as many guns as Gander Mountain. Not even close. Seriously, not even close.
- Bass Pro does carry reloading supplies, but that section of the store is already pretty picked over. Looks like once things calm down they will have a good selection of powder, primers, cases, projectiles, and presses. I didn’t see any Dillon stuff, but they do carry MEC, Hornady, RCBS, and Lee presses and dies.
- Merle Haggard was playing overhead when I walked in. That’s good.
- Good selection of flashlights with demo models that you can play with. Lots of Streamlight stuff, and the run of the mill offerings from the usual brands.
- They carry CCW badges in the holster section. Really?
- Holster selection wa
Am I Ready to Shoot my First Match? – 69
We roll through some of the common excuses we get from people for not coming out and trying competitive shooting.
Am I ready to shoot my first match? Yes, next question.
I did mention in the episode that there are several options for safe competition holsters that won’t break the bank. Here’s the cheap Uncle Mikes kydex holsters that really aren’t too bad for a cheap holster to get you started.
