I’m Still Going to Eat at Chipotle

Tue, 05/20/2014 - 23:31

Late last night I talked about the rifle open carry tools who walked into a Chipotle in Texas carrying a tacticool SKS at the low ready. Chipotle came out and requested that people not bring guns into their stores, and all of the anti-gun folks screamed victory.

Sun, 05/18/2014 - 23:47

Picking an firearms training instructor can be tough. This week we bring up two things that immediately disqualify instructors for us, any we talk about why we think that way.

Full shownotes will be delayed a little, but I should have them released sometime after 5PM on Monday 5/19/2014.

Another Reason to Repeal the NC Pistol Purchase Permit: It’s Confusing

Thu, 05/15/2014 - 21:18

Tonight I had a long conversation with a good friend who is a police officer in the Durham area. We were talking about the possibility of getting the laws allowing the Durham County Gun Registry repealed, and he brought up a really good point about why we need the the NC Pistol Purchase Permit repealed.

Now, I seem to remember there being some fine print on my old PPP’s (haven’t seen one in years) about how it’s only for purchasing, and not for carrying a pistol, but it’s still confusing that you may need to go to the Sheriffs office to get one of two different permits. I wonder how many people are out there who do this very same thing that end up losing their right to carry because of an honest mistake?

Select Cities Gaining Ability to Text 911

Thu, 05/15/2014 - 16:24

I saw this on LifeHacker yesterday, and felt obligated to share. It looks like Durham, NC (along with a host of other cities) is gaining the ability to text message 911 in an emergency. The LifeHacker article talks about this being beneficial for people who are deaf and cannot make a phone call, and I agree that is a big benefit, but I think they overlooked another benefit that it allows normal citizens to silently call for help should they be stuck in a situation where talking to a 911 operator would blow their cover (think active shooter). On top of that, many times a cell phone may not have enough signal to get out a call, but SMS text messages can still get sent.

Spread the word, I think this is a service that really could save lives in an emergency.

Repealing the Durham County Gun Registry

Thu, 05/15/2014 - 08:22

Ever since moving to North Carolina about 6 years ago, I’ve been baffled by the gun registry in Durham County. It seems that most gun owners (many of whom even live in Durham County) don’t even know about the registry, or feel perfectly okay with ignoring it. I’ve heard friends say things like “It’s not enforced anymore”, but the fact of the matter is that when a racist, anti-gun law is still on the books, it can be enforced at any time.

NC Rifle & Pistol Association State Games

Thu, 05/15/2014 - 07:44

I’m apparently out of the loop a little bit, so this information is a little out of date, but I still wanted to get this out. The North Carolina Rifle & Pistol Association is hosting some NC state shooting games. In May they have already had a Cowboy Action and IDPA match, and over the next month or so they will be having High Power, USPSA, 2-Gun Rimfire, Small Bore, Bullseye Pistol, and Vintage Military Rifle matches.

Here’s the .PDF from the NCRPA, You should check it out. I unfortunately don’t think I’ll personally be able to make it out to any of these matches, but I wish I could!

Pic of the Day: Revolvers are Fun

Tue, 05/13/2014 - 14:00

Whenever a friend asks if you want to shoot their gun, you say yes. Last week at the range I played with some full house .357 Magnum loads through a couple of GP100s. Too much fun!

Henderson, NC Man Defends Home with AR -15

Mon, 05/12/2014 - 23:50

Those high powered assault rifles have no use by law abiding citizens in our country! Amiright?

A man in Henderson, NC used his AR-15 to defend his life from a violent home invader yesterday morning. Just before 10am the homeowner heard a noise that made him retrieve his AR-15 from under his bed. He the confronted the home invader who fired first, and the homeowner then shot back.

The Einstein like criminal missed with his handgun, and promptly received a bullet from the homeowners AR.

Three lessons here:

1. Don’t only expect a home invasion to happen in the middle of the night.

2. Don’t break into other people’s homes.

3. Don’t bring a handgun to a rifle fight.

Hillary Clinton Pushing Gun Control is Fantastic

Thu, 05/08/2014 - 14:29

Would You Shoot This Match?

Thu, 05/08/2014 - 08:07

If I told you that later this year there was going to be a match that consisted of sample stages from all of the different shooting sports in a low-stress, fun environment, would you come out and try your hand at competitive shooting?

Details are still a little slim, but John from ZSA is planning a match for one day this fall to have Steel Challenge, USPSA, ZSA, and possibly IDPA stages setup so that new shooters can try them all out, and get their feet wet in competitive shooting. The match will be benefiting Operation 300, a charity that hosts camps for the children of fallen soldiers. I’ll have more on it as we get closer to the fall, but I wanted to put this out here now to get some awareness for the event.

Oh, and there may be one more big surprise too.

I want to know: Would you attend, and are you new to competitive shooting?
