Video: Gun Control Supporters Fail to Explain Why They Oppose the NRA
The National Rifle Association's headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia sees its fair share of protests by gun control supporters. Wielding signs such as "honk to stop gun violence," protesters are determined to have their voices heard, and the Media Research Center (MRC) is happy to oblige. MRC's man on the street Dan Joseph decided to ask a group of chanting protesters why exactly they oppose the NRA, and the answers he received range from the confusing to the downright bizarre.

Video: A Glimpse at Ice Fishing in 6 Other Cultures
There are few things as universal as fishing, and as the water freezes over in the winter months, anglers around the world prepare to ditch their warm-weather gear for ice fishing equipment instead. Ice fishing is perhaps most popular in North America, from Canada's famed Lake Simcoe to the world's largest annual ice fishing tournament on Minnesota's Gull Lake. Yet anglers in other places are just as enthusiastic over this age-old winter tradition. Whether they are fishing with lines, nets, spears, or some other contraption, ice fishing is generally a time for family and socializing.

New Glock Models for 2015 Allegedly Leaked
Will Glock fans finally get that single-stack 9x19mm pistol they have always wanted? Early signs point to "no." Just weeks before the 2015 Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show in Las Vegas, a Glock distributor released (potentially prematurely) photos of four new optic-ready handguns from the Austrian gunmaker. The new models are Modular Optics Systems (M.O.S) variants of the G34, G35, and G41, and the new G40, a 10mm dubbed the "Hunter."

The BAREBOW! Chronicles: The Wolf Dives for Cover
During the first couple of centuries that followed the arrival of the English, the Irish, the Scots, and the French in Newfoundland, an intensive extermination program took place that aimed to rid the island completely of its large, healthy, wolf population. By the end of the nineteenth century, the last of the wolves was thought to have been extirpated. I am here to tell the reader, however, that today there is still at least one wolf on the Isle of Newfoundland. I know, because I was hunting with him in October of 2007.
“Buckdism” is his name. In the Micmac aboriginal...
Wisconsin Hunter Ambushed by Injured Doe
For many hunters, there is nothing better than starting off a new year with a freezer full of venison. Sometimes, however, the would-be venison strikes back. According to Action Reporter Media, an unidentified 72-year-old man in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin was transported by ambulance to a local hospital after he was "ambushed" by a wounded deer on January 2. The Fond du Lac Sheriff's office said that the man was out hunting with family when he shot a doe with a crossbow. It was when...
9 Shooting Industry Predictions for 2015
2014 marked a return to some semblance of normalcy in our industry. Whew, the past couple of years have been a pain. Too little product and too high prices. In 2015, we'll get back to a sane business model with new products and broad availability. Danger looms on the political front with a lame duck president and billionaires dumping money into state-level gun control efforts.
1. "Old" new guns will hit the shelves
Every gun manufacturer I know has a backlog of new designs just waiting to be put into production. During the great gun panic of 2012-2013, no company could stop making existing...
Video: Leopard Befriends Young Impala
Game rangers in South Africa's Kruger National Park see a lot of strange things, but they rarely see a leopard making friends with what is essentially its Thursday dinner. According to Barcroft TV, park ranger Estiaan Houy filmed this encounter while out on safari with guests. Instead of fleeing for its life, this young impala seems determined to make friends with an adult leopard. Despite being batted around by the playful feline, the impala sticks around and eventually ends up chilling with the predator.
The bizarre interaction lasted about an hour before the leopard left, quickly...

Illinois May Reopen Bobcat Hunting after 40-year Ban
Earlier in December 2014, the Illinois Senate passed a measure that would allow hunters and trappers to take bobcats for the first time in more than 40 years. The state House already approved the measure back in March, and now the bill will head to desk of Governor Pat Quinn, who will be leaving office this month.
"With its passage in the senate, we are one step closer to having the ability to address the rising bobcat population in Illinois," State Representative Wayne Rosenthal (R-Morrisonville) told Read more »
Snowmobiler Nearly Drowns, Survives 3 Days in Alaskan Wilderness, Fights Off Wolverine
Craig Johnson was on his way to visit family for the holidays when his snowmobile fell through the ice in the wilderness near Wainwright, Alaska on December 15. The 38-year-old spent the next three days trying to survive in sub-zero temperatures and even fought off a wolverine at one point. Suffering from frostbite, dehydration, injuries sustained from the snowmobile crash, and hypothermia, Johnson was finally rescued on December 18. Not surprisingly, many people involved with the rescue effort called the man's survival nothing less than a miracle---and that includes Johnson himself.

Study: Ancient Humans Developed Weaker Bones as They Hunted Less
For much of human history, our ancestors lived in nomadic, hunter-gatherer societies. It was only a few thousand years ago that humans began moving toward agriculture as a way of life, which drastically changed not only food production, but human civilization as a whole. Scientists now say that the invention of farming may have had a physical effect on early humans as well. A recent study conducted in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) found that human hunter-gatherers from around 7,000 years ago had much stronger bones compared to their farming...
13 Events That Defined the Shooting Sports World in 2014
2014 was yet another interesting year for the shooting community. While we regained some of the sanity lost in 2013 with astronomical prices and negative product availability, we still had a slightly tumultuous adventure.
Let’s take a look, in no particular order, at some of the year’s highlights and lowlights.
1. Monkeys flew out of my butt on their way to Chicago!
I’d always joked that monkeys would fly out of my butt before the state of Illinois had concealed carry. Well, in 2014, the monkeys took flight. The City of Chicago and the entire state of Illinois now have concealed...

After a recent rewatch of the film, we decided to get in the holiday spirit and share seven of the most iconic firearms featured...
Don’t Stop Hunting after Opening Weekend
One great pleasure in hunting deer after opening weekend of gun season in most states is meeting people who get out there for pure hunting satisfaction.
These hardcore hunters don’t forsake opening day or Sunday, of course, but---unlike some hunters---they don’t define the entire deer season by its opening act. More specifically, they don’t quit the woods by the time NFL games kick off Sunday afternoon.
Those who hunt the entire season possess the same patient attitude found in serious anglers, trappers, waterfowlers or small-game hunters. For these optimists, each day offers new...

Trigger Control for Shotgunners: Don’t Think about It!
I take some heat from readers and colleagues because I still call what I do to make a shotgun fire “pulling” the trigger. They’ve informed me that the correct word, these days, is to "press" the trigger rather than "squeeze" or "pull" it, especially when it comes to handguns and rifles.
Granted, “press” is probably is the more precise choice because it can describe the motion of a single finger while “squeeze” is more commonly associated with whole-hand movement like “squeezing” an orange. And you definitely don’t want to move your entire hand when you’re aiming a...
Lawmakers Introduce Bipartisan Act to Protect the Great Lakes from Asian Carp
Asian carp remain one of the greatest threats to the Great Lakes, and lawmakers recently introduced bills in both the US Senate and House to further safeguard the region from the invasive fish. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Representatives Dave Camp (R-MI) and Louise Slaughter (D-NY) introduced the Guarding Our Great Lakes Act last week, which will direct the efforts of federal agencies towards vulnerable waterways in Illinois.
"The Great Lakes are part of our way of life and fuel our economy," said Senator Stabenow in a Read more »
