Video: Hand Feeding Turtles and Blind Bass . . . Just Another Day at the Lake

Thu, 07/06/2017 - 13:13

It’s feeding time and even the turtles need to get their grub on!

In this video, we see some awesome footage of bass chowing down on some shad as they are hand-fed to them. The slow-motion video in this is spectacular; you can see the bass propel itself out of the water to get the bait. Also, check out how tore up the man’s thumb is after a largemouth chomps down on it – crazy!

The turtles kind of steal the show in this video, though.

For whatever reason, watching the turtles attempt to drag the entire bag of bait back into the water is downright hilarious!

But if you came here for the fish action, you can check it out in the video below:

P.S. Watch for the old bruiser of a bass that appears to be blind or something; it can still suck down a shad quicker than you can say “Rapala.”

Video: Did This Guy Just Prove Drone Fishing is for Real?

Fri, 06/30/2017 - 08:18

Yup, Aaron Wiebe from “Uncut Angling” fame catches a bluegill using a drone. . . you just have to see this to believe it.

When all else failed, Wiebe puts away the rods and opts for some fly fishing. . .  as in fishing with a lure tied to a flying drone!

The fish seemed a little finicky on their beds, and we all know how frustrating it can be trying to sneak up on those panfish, although using a drone to catch bluegills is a new one on us.

The video starts with Wiebe trolling over some beds, using a variety of different approaches to entice some hungry gills. He captures some pretty cool fish behavior on their beds with the use of his handy drone, but at about the 6:40 mark he decides to call up the drone for a much more prominent role.

Check it out in the video below:

Plano Synergy CEO Responds to Bill Busbice Poaching Convictions

Thu, 06/29/2017 - 10:12

In light of the dishonest acts recently performed by Bill Busbice of Wildgame Nation, the CEO of Plano Synergy, David E. Dudick, wants to get the word out that those heinous actions don’t reflect the values of the company as a whole.

In a long Facebook post on Wildgame Nation’s Facebook, Mr. Dudick explains they are still gathering all the facts surrounding the incident and he offers the assurance of “appropriate and swift action.”

You can read the rest of his statement in the Facebook post below:

Shots Fired: Randy Newberg Shares His Thoughts on Bill Busbice in Explosive Facebook Post

Wed, 06/28/2017 - 14:53

Due to recent developments surrounding a poaching case that has cast a dark cloud over the hunting industry, other prominent outdoor enthusiasts have taken the opportunity to try and right the ship and defend other hunters. When something like this happens, it makes it easy for antis to place all hunters in a category of ill intentions, and that is simply not the case.

In particular, Randy Newberg held nothing back in his comments regarding Bill Busbice and the Outdoor Channel, and he believes hunting deserves better. Do you agree?

You can read Mr. Newberg’s statement, which he posted to his Facebook account, below:

IWI Teases New Tavor Chambered in .308

Wed, 06/28/2017 - 11:03

So IWI just posted a photo of what appears to be a Tavor with an AR-10 mag in 308 Win., and we can practically feel our wallets getting thinner as we sit on them . . .

We don’t have any information on a release date, or if this was just a way for IWI to gauge interest, but we’ll keep our nose to the ground in case any details emerge.

Based on what we do know, we found the 5.56 featured a relatively exaggerated recoil, so we would expect the 308 Win. to be quite punishing to shoot. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. . .

Ice Debate: Fast or Slow for Trophy Gills?

Fri, 01/06/2017 - 06:15

The best bluegill anglers I’ve ever fished with on hard water usually fall into one of two categories: speed freaks or snails. I’m not talking about their on-ice mobility, or how many holes they fish. I mean very simply, how fast they work whatever bait they have tied on at any given time. To break it down further – what speed, frequency, and cadences do they utilize in their jigging motion? These are deep-rooted questions, and for many of us it comes down to what we were taught at a very young age. Slow from the Get-Go My grandpa gave each of my brothers and me...

Video: Rabies Alert Issued After Multiple Bobcat Attacks

Thu, 01/05/2017 - 10:17

Bobcats are normally non-aggressive and want nothing to do with humans, but this one was quite different. A rabies alert has been issued for Venice and North Port by the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County after discovering a rabid bobcat in the area. The Florida Department of Health reported two bobcat attacks within 4 miles of each other. The clip below shows what happened after one cat ran into a home, belonging to Karen Morse, and wildlife officers attempted to capture it:

The officer was eventually able to corral the cat, but not before it leaped up and got him...

Gun Sales in America Reach Record Numbers in 2016; Thanks Obama!

Wed, 01/04/2017 - 14:05

Threats of terrorism and a potential Hillary Clinton administration were enough to tip the scales on gun sales in America to record levels in 2016. According to the Washington Examiner, FBI background check numbers totaled some 27,538,673 for 2016. That's 4 million more than in 2015, and nearly double the number in President Obama's first year as president. These background check numbers roughly equate to gun sales, and do not include guns sold to or given to friends and family. Read more »

Wed, 01/04/2017 - 11:05

A Pahokee man was caught fishing illegally by a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer, and according to the report, he didn't go without a fight. The Palm Beach Post reported that Derrick Lee Williams, 31, was caught fishing with a cast net off the Highway 441 Bridge in Canal Point. He was first contacted by FWC officer Bradley Toby on December 14, where Williams fled the scene before stopping and complying with officer Toby's...

New Brunswick Trapper Captures What’s Believed to be Only the Second Black Bobcat in Canadian History

Wed, 01/04/2017 - 09:30

Canadian trapper Oswald McFadden has been trapping his whole life. For 10 years now, he has set his traps along the same trapline near Cocagne, New Brunswick, Canada. But on Christmas Day, he captured something he had never seen before. When McFadden went to check his traps that day, he was shocked to find a very rare animal caught in his snare: a black bobcat. “I thought it was a house cat,” said McFadden. “When I saw the tail I knew it wasn’t a house cat. Then I looked at the ears, I knew it was definitely a bobcat.”

Many animals can have

Video: Boats Aren’t Supposed to Fly Like This

Tue, 01/03/2017 - 13:34

If 2016 wasn't your year, we should all aim to head into 2017 like this guy: full steam ahead, jumping all the waves in front of us, and not giving a hoot about the guy next to us.

New motto for the New Year, or ways to be a really bad boat driver . . . you decide for yourself, but the irony was too strong to pass up. How this guy doesn't flip his boat is a mystery, but at least he's enjoying it. Look at the air he gets! One thing is for sure: You don't want to fish with this guy. And if you do, don't let him drive. Sure, you'll get to your fishing spot in record time, but...

Me . . . the Almost 40-Year-Old Virgin

Tue, 01/03/2017 - 08:54

It was my first time, so, understandably, I was a little bit nervous. I didn’t know what to expect or how to act. Would I say the wrong thing or touch something I wasn’t supposed to? Would I remember to bring everything I needed? (Protection is an easy thing to forget, after all.) And what if I was done early . . . I mean, is there such a thing as finishing too soon? My hope, at least, was that it was going to fun. Perhaps most concerning is that all I could think about was that it was likely people were going to be watching me. I did a good bit of Internet research, watched videos, and...

Shooting with the Mann: Three Cool Things

Fri, 12/30/2016 - 13:37

Shooters need support equipment just like soldiers. It’s not always all about guns and ammunition. Sometimes I stumble on things I know shooters or hunters will appreciate, but because items don’t go “Bang!”, it’s sometimes difficult to find space to cover them in a column dedicated only to guns and ammo. Thankfully, this column gives me more freedom to focus on a wide variety of shooting and hunting topics, so here are three things I think are cool.   511 Stonecutter Pants All of the shooters and hunters I know wear pants to protect their...

New Minnesota State Record Eelpout?

Thu, 12/29/2016 - 05:56

No matter what you call them – burbot, eelpout or lawyers – the fish is one of a kind. From its elongated yellowish brown body with mottled dark-brown markings to its long dorsal and anal fins, an eelpout looks nothing like the other species you catch through the ice. In fact, in the cool waters of the North where the eelpout roams, they are caught almost exclusively through the ice. And get this: Eelpout spawn under the ice during mid-winter on shallow gravel and sand flats. The absolute best time to target them is during the pre-spawn and spawn. The vast majority of eelpout caught...
